I watched a slop video the other day about "most loved Lego themes of all time" and to my surprise, Fortnite and One Piece were on there.
The Fortnite sets are bad and unremarkable, period. They're overpriced and barebones. I'm neutral towards Fortnite, so it's not the IP that's the issue.
OP sets do look cool, but they're not THAT standout. If anything, they remind me of 2008 Indiana Jones sets. The blue people Avatar sets were way cooler IMO.

As a zoomer who grew up on 07-12 era sets I honestly look back on few with nostalgia, a few themes stand out to me like vikings, wave 1 power miners, and the troll faction of the castle line but for the most part the themes and sets of this era kind of suck in retrospect. Personally I collect up to 04, I don't know how to explain it but around 05 or 06 I feel like lego as a line entered a major aesthetic shift. It’s all based upon sales from misguided and lazy attempts at the themes over over a decade ago. Look at the last original pirates themes. The 2015 one. The set design was lazy. And the one ship was underwhelming. Probably the most boring pirate ship lego has done. And's there were only an handful of sets. And the 2009 one. Now the ships here are actually top tier, but pricey. So children generally aren’t getting the ships. But all the other sets are overpriced, small and lazy. And again. There really aren’t many sets. There need to be fun variety of mid range sets for an original theme to work and lego just to vomited out the theme, saw sales were underwhelming and gave up. Lego is retarded and doesn’t realize themes won’t sell unless the sets are actually good.Couple these themes with the massive investment on Lego’s part to do incredible sets with POTC around the same time and Lego executives give up on the pirates theme for the foreseeable future. The original themes were set up to fail because the execs saw the success of POTC. The problem with that? Only the original 3 movies were enjoyable. Johnny Depp is old now. And any future attempts at making POTC movies will not be good. It’s just a fact. Barbosa died for real so there’s the other best character gone. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan are old and no one wants yet another story about the kids of decade old protagonists. That tropey shit is so tired it’s unreal. And in order for a full POTC resurgence licensed theme to be produced we need new movies to coincide.So what’s the future? Lego execs know pirates of the Caribbean was a success once. So they falsely assume it will be a success in the future. This is how their minds operate. And so they wait for decades to do a full license again and not just one or two ships.. When that fails they will decide Pirates of the Caribbean is dead and therefore pirates are no longer cool.

To be honest though, signs of wider mainstream appeal were apparent immediately following the theatrical release of The Lego Movie.
