Since the JLA and Teen Titans are forever out of my grip, I have to ask what are the essential JSA members to get if one wants to have the full team?
Anonymous No.11521382
>>11521379
There are no real "core Justice Society" members, per say. BUT in general, Alan Scott, Wildcat, and Jay Garrick are considered the big three in the JSA and are always present in all of their incarnations.

But in general, if you want to build a JSA roster/team, here are my suggestions:

Alan Scott
Jay Garrick
Wildcat
OG Dr Fate
Hourman
Earth 2 Wonder Woman (not yet out)
Spectre

Sadly there is no Earth 2/Golden Age Hawkman. The standard release Hawkgirl is Kendra, who joined the team in the late 90s revival though the chase figure (a vague evergreen Golden/Silver Age/DCAU Hawkwoman) could pass as a Golden Age Hawkgirl.

In terms of more modern members, you have Power Girl, Mr Terrific II, Jack Knight, and a couple of figures that can pass as other modern members: McFarlane Hourman can also pass as his son, who joined the team in the 00s, the Black Adam movie Atom Smasher can work as a stand-in for comic Atom Smasher, and Injustice Khalid Doctor Fate for the current year JSA Doctor Fate (though to be fair, I wouldn't bother with him since OG Dr Fate is way cooler).

The wildcard is the upcoming Dr Midnight figure; we don't know if it's golden age Doctor Midnight or the female Doctor Midnight, who Todd created.

Also, while Sandman IS a member of the JSA, he's pretty forgettable and doesn't do much of anything on the team. So you CAN skip him if you want.

Nobody wants this digital shit, nobody is asking for Elite Editions, this is just something we have to put up with because they know they can get away with exploiting customers.

I don't get it

Someone must have told Todd before. like 90% of their figures look like they are wearing a diaper.

There is just something wrong with how they design the crotch piece. The only thing that I can think of it's how far stretched down to the thigh and how thick the plastic is and how high the waist go

I know Todd likes to keep his figure in streamline shape but they looks horrible really getting the way of movement.
Is it really hard to design the figure in more closer in line with an action figure?

Usually characters are either mythic like Superman and aren't meant to be relatable, you just supposed to look up to them, or they're more psychological like Batman where some catastrophic event in their life drives them to fight crime. They usually have some kind of edge with powers or are super intelligent detectives or inventors.

Phantom Lady doesn't really have a dramatic origin, she just steals a fancy flashlight and puts on a costume to fuck up the bad guys. No powers, not the smartest girl in the world, and her gadgets kinda suck, but she's this unstoppable force that picks fights with serial killers and Nazi spies.

What is a super hero? Is it just a power fantasy or is it about choosing to stand up and do the right thing on principle even when you know you're outgunned? In a lot of ways she's got bigger balls than most of the other heroes in comics who can shoot webs or ride around in tanks they keep in their secret bat caves.

The weirdest encounter I've ever had in a toy section was when I found blue Azrael and Brainiac at Target. A creature who looked like Cyraxx with thinning but long hair, a heavy metal shirt, and a spike collar came around the corner, stopped, looked down at Azrael in my hand, looked up at the empty shelf, looked me in the eyes, then instead of turning and walking away he backed up out of the aisle around the corner he came from.

I knew instantly I couldn't let him have this Azrael. It was sent to this store for me. I've beaten him to Question, a few Supermen, and Eradicator so I know he's either had to find them on ebay or his collection is missing key figures.

Maybe he's so used to me always getting the cherry releases when they come out he's one of the 24 people on the planet hyping up digital releases.

I feel like with the way tooling is used at McFarlane now, someone is making their DC dreams come true, even if those dreams don't sell to the wider public--kind of a S7 Brian situation. But that person definitely isn't Todd given we know Todd's tastes which were more in line with the early years of the line.

Now we see new tooling to properly make a good looking version of a very obscure character as a McF Toy Store exclusive. We also see many 7in scale Batmobiles from all kinds of different eras even though mostly besides the '89 Batmobile they went to clearance. Yet meanwhile the regular figures languish with poor, improper reuse, corners cut, and inflated prices.

I can't believe That movie is what Batman became in 2022. Thankfully the toys still primarily draw from the comic air and we can forget. The car just looks like a regular ol 1980s jalopy only souped up. The character doesn't feel like Batman at all. DC really is rudderless. Even the ninja training sucks because Batman doesn't learn or use any martial arts. The suit was just a modernized stiff Keaton copy. No innovation or desire to stay comic book. The Batman only has potential to get better as the first movie is essentially Year One in spirit. But Matt Reeves & Hollywood have to stop being afraid of being comic book. So spending $600-$750 for a team of heroes and villains from a cartoon that has no connection to my childhood or comic book interests or anything else really - NOPE.

I went down memory lane and found out that the Batman toys I had as kid in the 90's were made by Kenner. Now obviously in my head they are the best toys ever but I would like to hear the opinion of the experts here on how they fare compared to other companies takes on it.

>Both from the new movie

And this supposed to be comforting?

I don't know why it took Todd this long to give his Batman additional hands. Nearly all his Batman figure came with one open hand and a fist and that is it. Yes I know the Open hand is to go with batarang But still

Like the new no man land batman is the only Batman figure I saw that comes with a proper set of hands.

McFarlane Toys themselves said Sandman is not in Targets until October. So don't bother going unless you're going for something else.

Also if you are only going for the toy, call ahead. It's a far worse feeling to go to a Target after driving like 20 minutes there, 5-10 minutes to go in and check and drive 20 minutes back and get nothing. As opposed to have someone on the phone tell you they don't have it in like 5 minutes.

Well whether he is still with us or not, he's not buying $22 DCMV figures anymore, that's for sure. I wonder, could it be instead that he is not posting just due to being embarrassed over comments like these after the McFarlane price increases? Or is he potentially finally mad at McFarlane like the rest of us for skyrocketing the prices and so is just disgusted with the line and doesn't want to post about it?

I paint armies of miniatures for people and they pay thousands for orcs and elves on top of what they paid for the unpainted figure. Some dudes are into cars and tractors and throwing down a few grand for their next project doesn't even make them blink twice.
Action figures is still a pretty cheap hobby for retards. There's no talent or skill required for opening a box and putting a toy on a shelf.

But is a McFart worth $250? I'd say no but I'm not the guy just trying to finish a Teen Titans team but got raped in the ass by Todd.

I get it. The Knight family is my favorite corner of the DC universe. Sandman is going to be a gold label target exclusive. Starman Jack Knight is going to be a ruby platinum. I'm seeing a lot of Starman Ted Knight on covers and publicity stuff so if Todd doesn't make one I'm sure Mattel will. Phantom Lady Sandra Knight and Starman Michael Thomas will never ever get figures.

The absolute best I can do is cobble them together from like five different lines with different scales and articulation.

Fuck me if Todd ever made a Phantom Lady, I'd burn whole paychecks to get one.

I'd say bullshit but she was on the mural in the Justice Gang headquarters in the Superman movie, is in the front row of the cover of New History of DC miniseries #1 and in the interior.

Someone at DC remembers she exists, and Mattel's best move for deep cuts is to make characters Todd never got around to because we needed Kite Man and Detective Chimp.
