On the contrary, they feel much more dense and rigid than the official ones, similar to how the pre-2003 masks feel. They don't seem nearly as prone to scratching as the soft plastic ones. The Hau is pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing.

Indeed, they could've double-dipped in 2002 by doing blind box Tohunga packs with body recolours and mask/foot recolours that weren't covered by previous sets or mask blind boxes. They could've also done mask blind boxes in 2004 for Metru-coloured masks, with the silver dualmould on the 2001 masks and straight recolours. For that matter, they could've done mask boxes in 2007 instead of those gay squid boxes. As you say, they left a lot of money on the table.

I agree entirely. It makes zero sense that every Matoran from Metru Nui or Mata Nui who had the same mask as one of the Turaga only had the "noble" version and nobody had a "noble" mask of the six that the Toa Mata wear until one of Greg's faggy little Q&As retconned the Av-matoran masks to be that. Which is extra retarded, because they're directly based on the adaptive Kanohi Nuva, which are already two degrees removed from the original "great" masks, so it's a variant of a variant of a variant of a variant.
Here's my position:
>all masks have a single default appearance regardless of type/powerlevel
>masks can either be crafted to look differently to how they're supposed to or their shape can change during a transformation
>"Great" and "Noble" are not powerlevels but rather groupings used by the Matoran for the six specific masks of the Toa and Turaga of Mata Nui respectively
Simple as.

I still think organic masks were a mistake on a production level and lego likely saw it as the point of no return when it came to making the masks important to the building experience, based on the leaks the Mahri had regular useful masks because someone on the team realized they were going too far with the concept. And then in 2008 at first it seemed we were gonna get some recolors after all but they just said fuck it and made mold-specific av-matoran masks instead

I don't think anyone here would disagree that making new masks completely incompatible with any regular Lego or Technic that could only attach to a new (completely smooth, featureless, shittily coloured in only one colour ever) head piece was moronic. Hell, I don't even accept the 2008 Ignika as a legitimate mask piece. To say nothing of G2, but I guess at least those had good, well-desined heads underneath instead of the Inika abomination or the shitty Glatorian/Hero Factory heads with their delightfully cracking angleshit sockets.
Anonymous No.11527255 >>11527260

I can forgive G2 because it at least was consistent with itself when it came to mask compatibility, can't make the same excuse for the Inika. What possessed to go that route anyway? The prototype masks were different enough, a bit more refining and some smart texturing and we could all pretend they were organic while also being worth the money

Releasing a new team of Toa without unique masks would have been a dumb decision. The level of dumb that the designers wouldn't have thought of it inthe first place. It would have been a flop. It would have appealed to no one, except maybe a small group of hyperfixated autists who want "consistency" or whatever. As much as the Toa Metru wasn't perfect, as none of the waves were "perfect", going for a more fluid, sleek and "3D" design instead of the blocky and often flat look of early Bionicle was the right direction.
And I guess consistency often has to be sacrificed for the sake of progress. Like, obviously, when they first designed the limbs and the ball joints for Slizers they didn't think that much forward. They didn't plan to turn it into a highly customizable "building system" with a lot of articulation at that point. And they probably didn't know there would be one single constraction theme going on for almost ten years. So they probably thought they could change stuff and improve the ball joint system on the go when a theme ends and a new one begins. I think if Bionicle was concluded with the 2003 movie like they planned it initially, and they started a new theme of constructible robots with poseable knees and with the Metru aesthetic, then less people would be complaining about consistency.

NTA but this is a retarded take. When I first saw the Metru Matoran (keep in mind that these were revealed before the Toa) as a kid I was mesmerized by all the new parts and got super excited for what would happen next in the story. The fact that the mask molds were reused didn't bother me at all. If anything, something familiar in a new and unfamiliar context makes it even more exciting in a way I can't really explain.

In hindsight, a lot of the stuff that got me hyped as a kid just because it was new doesn't interest me much now, including the Metru Matoran. And that's kind of my point, it's easy to heavily scrutinize something now as an adult, but when you were a kid ANYTHING new related to Bionicle was the highlight of the week. That's why I have a hard time believing people who say shit like "even as a kid I knew this was bad, I'm so smart guys".

I got 2 Toa Metru from my birthday eventually and I was like okay these are kind of neat. Then I got some Vahki and Krekka and I was more accepting of change/new characters.

Anyways I look back now and realised I was being stubborn to change. I also couldn't logically argue with my parents to get me the "second version" of the "same character"

I wasn't introduced to Bionicle until maybe late 2001 or early 2002 when a kid in my class brought some in for show and tell. I think it was probably during that summer that I got Gali, which my mom found at a rummage sale. They apparently had all 6 and she picked the blue one because that was my favorite color. Later on I ended up getting Onua brand new from an educational store (building toys are considered educational) and I remembered thinking "wow, they have one of the OLD Bionicles!" even though they'd only been discontinued for less than a year at that point. But I guess a year is a long time when you're 6, considering it's 1/6 of your entire life.

I ended up getting one or two of the Toa Nuva when they came out (probably Tahu first) and then I kept getting them as gifts and ended up with the full set. I guess they're just easy gifts since the only thing you have to worry about is not getting the ones I already had (I did end up with a duplicate Kopaka Nuva on one of my birthdays). I'm pretty fond of the Nuva because of that, even if they're objectively not as good as the originals.

The first time I saw the Toa Metru was when one of my friends showed me his Nuju. Seeing all the new parts blew my mind, including the new head which we both agreed was "so ugly". The more I think about it the more I realize that almost all of my most vivid childhood memories involve Bionicle in some way.

You could be a Toa of Stone who could circumvent your inability to swim by just walking across bodies of water, or a Toa of another element who could use bodies of water as cover to mount a guerilla attack.
It'd also have peaceful uses, allowing Kanohi-capable species like Vortixx or upper-class Steltians to contact Ehlek's race and engage in commerce with them

That being said, however, it DOES kind of feel like it was made for Toa linked to a Suva to use as a secondary mask.

Kualus literally taught him the language and last I checked, Roodaka's mutation ability didn't grant fluency in other languages. It's entirely possible for Matoran and Toa to learn a Rahi's language and speak it conversationally. Despite that, however, not every Toa has the time to learn multiple new languages, so it's useful as a universal translator.

I think the brown color had more of a roll than the inverted torso. Pohatu has significantly more pieces than the rest of the Toa Mata to make his proportions look a bit better and he has, by far in my opinion, the best gear function of any of the Mata. Brown is also the only color they stopped making sets in. Unless you count tan, Avak was the last brown one. Until G2 anyway and even then it was dark orange.

The problem is that Bionicle was canceld and there is no Bionicles now. So I think Lego should bring back Bionicle but they should also make the main bionicles hot anime girls with big b...bies. And they should use a lot of new pieces and it should be technic based. So no system bricks (sorry system fans) and CCBS (aka Hero Factory system). I think it would be a huge success. People say it would be expensive so Lego wouldsn't do it but it would be successful so it would worth it for lego in my opinon. They should aslo bring back Hero Factory so Hero Factory fans would also be satisfyied and they should make the Bionicles fight the Hero factories. So in the Bionicle story line the hero factories would be the bad guys because they ended bionicle in 2010. And in Hero Factory the story would be shown by the perspective of the hero factory guys, so everyone could choose a side. I think this way there would be no compromises so everyone would be satisfied so lego would gain a lot of money and both old and new fans would be happy. I dontr know why they havent done it yet, it should be obvious. Maybe Lego should hire me. Maybe Hero Factory could still use CCBS pieces so they would appear more to Hero Factory fans so ther would be no compromies between bionicles and hero factories, but that's justg a suggestion. They should also make a big budget Hollywood movie directed by Michael Bay, so maybe some transformers could make a cameo, maybe Robert Downey Jr could make a cameo but thast a suggestion too, it could be any popular actor who is epic enough. That would be cool. And they should also bring back CryoShell for the music but this time Linking Park could also join them that would be epic even if unfortunatelly Chester can't join them now (rest in peiece Chester)

The "Garai" is literally less a legitimate mask piece than Vezon's flayed scalp/face.

People list them for $800 but rarely does anyone actually buy them for that much. I've been keeping an autistic list of PKGs listed on Bricklink for over a year now. Since December 2023 only one listing on Bricklink actually sold for $800. Most sales have been between $400-$600.

Either way I'm thankful my grandma bought me Tower of Toa back in 2005 and I was blessed with the PGK. Too bad I didn't get the PG Visorak shell, or either set with the gold Visorak for that matter. Though I think it's because I specifically wanted a gold Makuta mask. Still need to part together Melding Teridax to flex the PGK, feel like the little "visorak" in Tower of Toa isn't a great way to showcase it.

what do you guys think of my moc?
they are two voya nui matoran, the last to leave karzhani realm and his last repair

the combination makes their emotions stronger but unregulated they where ourcasted by the other matoran for theie behaviour.

it has been years and they have faded into legend, but some matoran tell of tales where dismembered parts of rahi, savagly damaged are found in the forest. Some say some matoran get lost in the forest but never appear again, it is said the twins in yheir insanity wish to repair themselves

That's right, I responded offhandedly to a tangential part of your asinine rambling post instead of dignifying it with e real response. Problem?

Got this today, what are the odds of someone losing a Mctoran's mask but somehow keeping the disk?

Not terribly implausible, masks do just break sometimes too. It's not a terribly rare mask in this case since Matoro got a proper set rerelease in 2003toran form, so I doubt they'd deliberately keep it and give up a black Ruru, which is at least marginally rarer.
Come to think of it, is Kongu the only McToran whose mask never got an alternate release? Onepu got it same-year with the Nui-Jaga.

The black Ruru came from me, this was a maskless Huki that I built a Hafu (Taipu?) from before I took the picture

Ah. Well I still think you'd have to be a real mask-miser to filch the sand blue Akaku, it's not like it has a whole lot of non-Matoro uses.
And I'd personally say Taipu, the Ruru suits him better and it'd be dumb to have all three prominent Onu-Matoran with the Pakari. Besides, everyone knows that MNOG takes precedence over everything else.

What's a good subsitute for the Mctoran arm on the Boxor? I don't like how the build puts stress on it.
