yes, but people are a bit disappointed. apparently the articulation is improved, but not improved enough for some people, and the plastic used feels very overly soft, to the point of being able to indent it with your fingernails. That, plus they aren't in scale with the old ones (basically almost the same height, but these turtles should be taller, at least for their proportions. Shredder is not out yet, to make comparisons with) and also that the accessories are disappointing.. also they kinda had a difficult job ahead of them adapting the 2k3 art style, but it feels like they didn't nail it to me.

We discussed this last thread, but the general consensus seems to be that either because they’re low numbered and only sold online or because Super7 was technically a direct competitor to Playmate’s vintage redesigned figures despite not being in the same scale, but oh well. I just wanted to complete the rocking turtles.

literally only one person said that and it was the first suggestion given. pretty far from 'general consensus'
especially because yeah, S7 is not in any way, shape, or form, a competitor to playmates' stuff. and only a moron would actually argue that. like i guarantee playmates didn't have to 'make that case'

Still, it sucks, especially since it was an impulse purchase that I just randomly found at the store. As long as I can get my money back I'll be content, still, would've been nice if the piece just came off in the box so I could just glue it back on real quick. You should grow up and stop forming these parasocial attachments to people you see on Youtube. It's fucking bizarre how you act like you know these faggots personally and need to convince us to give money to them. Go outside and meet some real people instead of pretending Hatter, Johnny Nostalgia, the faggots at Toy Anxiety, and Pixel Dan are your friends. Fuck, I'll still let you pretend Trevor and Blaine are your friends if you want, but don't try to shame me because I don't want to give money to e-beggars and shills. Like Dan doesn't get paid enough for shilling BBTS and through Patreon. It's not like his insight is any greater than any other fan of a toyline, so why the fuck should I care what he has to say. Hell, his MOTU book is already out of date less than a year after it was released because the mystery of the figure that is known as Wonderbread He-man was solved, and no thanks to this self proclaimed "toy historian."
And yes, I do care about that. Any time there was a Premium DNA thread on the board the last few years, I have tried to warn anons that if they really want to preorder their shit, to not buy directly from them and do it at a place that doesn't required a deposit because they are thieving scum.

I think TMNT was still going pretty strong right up until Power Rangers came out, but that might just be me talking as a kid born in '85. Those born earlier in the 80s might well have seen TMNT already becoming kinda old by then.

you have to hand it to playmates, they DID try to adapt. we got all kinds of anime-ass chrome-armor cyber-this samurai-that turtles. I actually bought one of the Supermutants just because i'm like "hey, this guy isn't a tiny-legged fat piece of shit like the other turtle figures now look to me, a sophisticated ten year old."
Anonymous No.11534824

For me personally, there wasn't nearly as much after 91 that comes close to the first 3-4 years. There were still a few cool mutants in 91, but they gradually dwindled it down to nothing but (mostly) mediocre variants of the main cast. Not that they were all bad. I still think Gatekeeper Rocksteady is one of the best figures in the entire line, and some of the sub-lines like Supermutants and Cyber Samurai were interesting. But for every one of those, you get a dozen pieces of shit like April the Ravishing Reporter and the Bodacious Birthday Turtles.
Even with the cartoon, the quality of the writing diminished as the seasons progressed. Yeah, it was Power Rangers in 93 that was the death knell for TMNT, but the toon had dropped off so badly by that point that I wasn't even aware of the Red Sky seasons until I was an adult. Sure, I was a teen by that point, but I'd still watch my VHS tapes of the first season and Attack of the Killer Pizzas occasionally at that age.

Batman:TAS, XMen, and other superhero cartoons killed TMNT's spot as being #1 with kids.

After they came out, toy shelves were dominated by superhero characters.

Power Rangers came out later and was sort of an oddball. While PRs were popular, all the wannabes and clones failed to gain any popularity. You clearly don't remember the toy aisles in the 90s and how hard everyone wanted to have their own superhero cartoon.

Even GI Joe wanted to reimagine itself as a superhero series, because superheroes were what kids wanted most.

Power Rangers was popular, but it was not like TMNT, He-Man, Batman, GI Joe, or Xmen, which dominated everything else when they were ontop of their game. The amount of shit made for these series was insane, so it's hard to say that Power Rangers touched that throne.

MMPR only came out about a year after B:TAS and X-Men:TAS, and absolutely eclipsed them both in ratings and toy sales in that first year. Neither capeshit shows ever reached the ratings of TMNT, which MMPR did within it's first season. Demand for the Zords that Christmas was borderline insane, and comparable to the Tickle Me Elmo craze a few years later.
I'm not blowing smoke up it's ass because I'm a fan either. B:TAS was my favourite show at the time, and I still hold it in higher regard than most shows from the last 30 years. But to pretend it was as embraced by kids as much as TMNT and MMPR is laughable.
>>11534855
>Oh, and they knew who their competitor was
Yeah. That's why The Next Mutation happened when their attempts to go slightly more grown up with the Red Sky seasons didn't grab the kids attention. Not pretending.
There's a reason why EVERYONE wanted to make superhero shit and have their own series, whereas Power Rangers got like two clones and they enver attempted anything thereafter.

And like i said, toy shelves were absolutely dominated by Batman and Xmen...

And i won't deny that Power Rangers had a tickle me elmo surge during the holidays, but that's exactly what that is, a brief moment where it shined and then kinda petered for the rest of the year.

And another thing is Power Rangers was kinda limited in that it was mainly younger kids that liked it. Superheroes (and TMNT) were more universal, so you had teens and adults buying them too and directly led to the collector toy market for action figures.

Even this article says that sales of Batman figures was boosted by Power Rangers popularity, but PR was still outselling all other action figure lines.

kids don't have that competition mindset. they have a 'whoa, two cakes' mindset. it doesn't matter which was bigger, they absolutely 'embraced' both. Not to mention, those kids probably already grew up on reruns of 60s Batman, so they had a link.

Even in 1993 during the first year of MMPR, Bandai issued a statement apologising for not being able to meet demand. It wasn't just a holiday surge, considering that it lasted from 93-95 when the original incarnation ended.

it's amazing how nothing has changed, and everyone still sucks at guessing demand. they either laughably underproduce things everyone obviously wants and bought previously, or overproduce garbage nobody wanted in the first place which has never existed before

that is an interesting graphic. It looks to have been drawn directly over a screencap. Among other things, the 'merch' graphics all had the coins on the chests, and the boot creases seem like perfect. on the other hand I remembern't the spandex pants ever being loose like that at the bottom.

Maybe, but B:TAS and XMEn came out first and their influence was felt industry wide for ye- deca-... their influence still hasn't ended.

>>11534895
Like i said, i won't deny that Power Rangers had that surge, but it was a blip compared to the long standing rule of TMNT. It's very hard to compare that shit when it had no lasting effect. PR was an oddball series.
And it's hard for me to find age old articles and i doubt my wizard magazine even has the ratings for Power Rangers, so i wouldn't be able to compare them.

Also, i forgot to mention that the the B:TAS inspired TMNT seasons kept them running for years.
Next Mutation failed hard and i don't actually remember it finishing its single season because it kept changing its timeslot.
Nevermind TMNT's was reacting to superheroes first, and not Power Rangers. NM seems more like they're grasping at straws after having lost its relevancy and its way cheaper to do live action shit than another cartoon

>>11534907
A low expectation series not having enough supplies for its first year? Not shocking stores didn't order shit for some unknown series that many other networks passed on. There's a reason why your articles are from 1994 and not 1993... or 1995.
It's not surprising that Power Rangers lost steam by 1995, where little kid movies based on 50 year tired properties did better.

You don't need to. There are plenty of articles that state that TMNT was the best selling toy of 1990 and Power Rangers was the best selling toy of 1994. And Batman, X-Men, and all the capeshit you listed never came close to those sales numbers. Batman didn't even hit those highs during the Batmania of 89.
>Nevermind TMNT's was reacting to superheroes first, and not Power Rangers
Really? It was reacting to the thing that came out a full year before Power Rangers first? I can't imagine why it didn't react to Power Rangers first. Those goddamn temporal limitations!

Yeah, the addition of Venus the female Turtle and it's more comedic tone really alienated existing fans.
Still, considering that after the cartoon was axed despite being reworked to be closer in tone to the Batman animated series, and the rights were given to Saban (the same company that made both MMPR and the X-Men cartoon) there must be a reason that Saban chose to make their version of TMNT more like MMPR than their X-Men series. I wonder what that reason would be? Would you like to guess?

>Really?
Yes, really.
Go look at my post >>11534848 where I'm responding to some guy who says that TMNT was going pretty strongg until Power Rangers.
In actuality, it was B:TAS and XMen that dethroned TMNT, hence TMNT reacting to superheroes becoming the new big thing.

>There are plenty of articles that state that TMNT
The thing about news media is that they're there to give you a few factoids to entertain you. It' mostly there to sensationalize and if it's not "newsworthy", it becomes much harder to find info about that sort of shit. You need to subscribe to a trade magazine or industry reports like TRST/NPD to get any real info. In 1990, they wrote about TMNT because it got its first movie.

So Power Rangers got a lot of reports in 1994 because their kids started having a lot of trouble getting toys for the holiday and because it became a rule for the media to report on whatever the NEW HOT THING IS to sell more toys. Otherwise, toys get ignored for the rest of the year. And no one reports on #2 or #3 HOT THING

I'm sure you're linking to shit you found on wiki, and since they're fans, they're not really going to report on how sales dropped in 1995, because negative news is negative. Or did the media not even remember PR existed in 1995? Who knows, because it's hard research this stuff if you're not a college student with free access to dozens of databases.

Probably the only good news article i've found https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-atlanta-constitution/132060719/ since it actually gives some context and comparisons.

yeah I think we can say like
there's a spectrum of how quickly something got huge and how long it lasted
cape shit never had 'manias' but it's been enduring for decades
tmnt had a mania, but even after it, it's still endured
power rangers' mania ended and that was basically the end of its relevance, though it did keep going til very recently, and it had far fewer years-off than TMNT did

let's be super real though. TMNT and power rangers ARE capeshit. just one is capeshit parody, and the other is like a six-generations-deep telephone game of what superheroes are, by japanese filmmakers specializing in live action stunts on the cheap.

I think they underestimated the cost of making him that big which probably caused all those delays, which turned their epic "fuck you" into a running joke that's killed the line.

That's certainly when the line started going sideways for me. Waves 8 and 9 come out before wave 7 and the company can't even be arsed to make some kind of explanation or excuse.

Well fuck. My Target Ultimate Shredder went from preordered, to backordered, to cancelled. Ended up just getting one off ebay alongside Claw Shredder to finish off my Shredder Clones and give Krang his heterosexual lifepartner Saki.

Also have Stupid Sexy Mirage Shredder coming from BBTS alongside Nendo Gold Ship.

I got the wave with Slash and Scratch, plus two of the $30 Mousers to bring it to 15 of the little guys. Here's hoping Rat King or his wave entirely gets discounted.

Was the wave with Leatherhead and Ray hit the hardest by the shitty S7 loose hips? I know people say it was a problem from wave 1, but my Turtles at least seemed fine...

Super 7s I don't have but would buy for under $25:
Neutrino
Rocker Leo
Rappin Mikey
Rat King
Damaged Foot Soldier

Everything getting clearanced I already bought at full price like a dope.

there is no non-comic guerrilla.

wait, do you mean there's no Neca Guerrilla -toy-? because yeah there isn't. What anon meant is that this toy is bulkier than the -character- as depicted in the comic. not that it's bigger than the neca toy, if one existed.

it was so sweet hearing James Avery, in his last years, being interviewed about Shredder and saying he imagines he and Krang have just retired to Florida.
two mouser packs
they are cute little guys. I ended up giving the battle damaged ones (was it one or two?) to a neighbor kid.
>discounted rat king
yeah let's hope. that's a SOLID good figure. and you can buy more rats from him on amazon for cheap.
>loose hips
leatherhead has a little trouble, but it's mostly due to his body to leg ratio. ray's hips seemed okay. I do suggest having some polyurethane on hand to tighten them up

There's a really great short up on NECA's instagram and Facebook with the 2012 turtles. They're saying they're out in September...and the Target Fall Geek Out starts this Friday and continues through to October.

Probably a good bet the four 2012 Turtles are hitting then.
