Toys dont inspire the same joy in me that they used to. Nothing does anymore. I dont think i enjoy this hobby enough to want to continue it, despite going through the motions of looking for toys online and in stores like a programmed routine. I dont know what to do anymore

Anon just pack things up then. Pick and chose your favs, sell off the undesirables, and then proceed with your life.

I bet you preorder figures. That’s where I’ve lost interest in the past. Preorder, wait six months, get it, rinse repeat. That spendcycle ends up killing a lot of the fun.

Im probably going to do that but i dont even have that much of a life to begin with. Toy collecting was my one true hobby and now that its spark is gone i have nothing. Im not gonna an hero at least for a while because i dont want to make my family sad but other then toys i dont have much to live for or enjoy life for.

Also any advice on how to sell off the undesirable toys would be appreciated because i have a shit ton of figures i dont want anymore. Im still gonna keep my favs tho

Usually i dont when i can avoid it. I hunt for them in stores but lately its been such a maddening endeavor doing that because even when i find the figure i was looking for it just doesnt mean as much as it should to me now. I just dont feel that "itch" like i did and in the past week the realization is starting to hit like a freight train

How do you find success whilst avoiding pre-orders? Basically everything sells out at the pre-order stage.

>this thread AGAIN
why do you weenies always feel compelled to come on here and make an entire thread whining about not being interested in toys anymore

nobody cares, just give up the hobby and keep it yourself

Wait for someone like OP to lose their lust for life, convince them with the promise of a lot of cash to snag their stuff, and waltz out whistling like a lark with a fresh deal in hand.

...or convince OP to get into kitbashing. I find mashing up toy parts into frankensteinian creations really does wonders for the soul.

facebook marketplace/offerup for more desireable pieces, ebay for the cheaper stuff unless you're willing to sell in lots/at a loss. Fwiw I would recommend you focus on your favorites. Atleast keep around a few desk toys and pack away the rest until the spark returns. In the meantime try to get some excercise in. I say as much as seriously as I can. Try and make an effort to go walking everyday for the next two weeks. Your entire outlook could stem from something as simple as a vitamin D deficiency.

You need to ask yourself why you buy toys in the first place. If you're doing it to impress us, then we'll shame you because that's just how it is for obvious reason

Try playing with them, or at least make photos of them. Go to a forested area for a picnic. Bring some of your favorites, put them in cool poses and make some pictures. If you just chuck 'em in a display case, or do not even open them, then what's the point?

That sounds more like depression than anything else. This is going to sound gay as fuck, but I would genuinely recommend going for a walk outside and getting some fresh air. If the weather's good where you are, go walk around your neighborhood for about 20 minutes right now, and see if that helps at all. Some light exercise and improving your diet can do wonders.
As far as toys specifically, do you do anything with your toys, or just let them sit on a shelf after buying? Trying playing with or posing them, keep one on your desk to fiddle with, just anything to engage with them beyond being decoration. I like model kits just because I find the act of building really relaxing, slowly assembling a cool robot.

It's basically a reverse troll where instead of OP being a faggot and telling you to grow up and stop buying toys, it's OP being a faggot and saying HE'S too old for toys to make everyone else feel bad and slowly get that same feeling.

My joy for toys came back when I got into giant robo animes because they're giant walking toys and the coolest fucking shit ever. My inner chuuni came back. I dont appreciate it and do things with them enough but I fucking love giant robots so much.

I feel you OP I'm going through shit and time keeps going forward. But my joy for toys came back when I got into giant robo animes and games again because they're giant walking toys and the coolest fucking shit ever. My inner chuuni came back. I dontdo things with them enough but I fucking love giant robots so much and have a shelf of my favourite ones.

I think you need to change it into something more creative to be fulfilling. Change your displays and poses more.
Anything customizable, like I collect lego minifigs, stuff you see in the modular robot general, plastic models and legos even especially if you kitbash paint and do mocs. Miniature displays.

I also stopped preording and instead hunt for old stuff and it feels better. Or wait for good deals. Good luck op

What advice would you give a beginner collector like me? 3 months and I already have 5 figures (3 revoltech, 1 storm collectibles and 1 figuarts). Its kind of addicting that I spend my day window shopping online and irl while playing my figures for a day or two then end up pre-ordering/ordering something by the next week.

Ok? Why do we need to know this? You guys are such fucking drama queens about everything. You don't need to announce to us that you're leaving like you're at an airport. Why are all of you so fuckin attention starved?

Occasionally, an Anon may come here looking to find a shred of humanity amongst peers. It never hurts to look for council in the fellowship of other hobbyists. Why not try to help or offer advice? There's plenty of other threads if you aren't interested in this one.

I don't come to /toy/ to blog post about how depressed I am anon. I come here to talk about toys. I don't give a single fuck about any of you, nor should you give any about me either. Just post toys, talk about toys, and enough of the trauma dumping. If you want me to be your therapist you're going to have to pay me.

If you want therapy you're going to have to pay me. Seriously, when did it become cool to wear your feelings on your sleeve like a woman? Bottle up your emotions to an unhealthy level and explode and a rage like the rest of us do. Goddamn, that other anon is right. You're a bunch of weenies.

Not OP but don't just buy all the figures of a series for the sake of completion, just get the figures or characters you really like.
Of all the "i quit" post i've seen this seems like a common thing they do before getting fed up with the hobby.

Also try to get into a different hobby as well besides collecting, 12 years as a collector here with a collection of around 140 toys and i still love the hobby.

What's your email address anon? I'll be your friend and you keep your toys until you become an hero and leave them to me in your will. This is my first time coming to this board, btw and the first thread I read on here. Maybe I can help you find another hobby instead and you won't become an hero.

I suggest selling your crap now while you can still get some money back. Retail prices are going to continue to rise until only the rich can afford them, and at that point all the poorfags will be wanting to sell off their collections, driving resell prices down. Get out now while the gettin' is good!

then mute the thread. Otherwise, you're a troll feeding the other troll, only revealing that you feel the same anyway.

Agreed. Don't buy things just because you saw the movie, cartoon or game. You aren't required to know the source material if you just want to buy a cool toy which you can project your own ideas into anyway. You'd spend a little less and you'll end up feeling the same way regardless. Also try not to spend so much time trying to afford high aftermarket prices for toys you haven't seen in person yet. Plan for local toy conventions or weekend flea markets where you may end up finding those too

I'm kind of there as well, OP. Been collecting for 15 years and even though I've sold some stuff here and there over the years, the collection's gotten unmanageably large. I've got over 50 figures I haven't even opened and am pretty much out of display space, but I keep buying more out of FOMO. Had to make a rule for myself that whenever I buy a new figure, I get rid of an old one. While the hobby has plenty of recent annoyances(price hikes, artificial scarcity, QC issues, tariffs, etc.)I think it may be anhedonia rather than the hobby itself. I feel that same reduction in joy for video games and anime. Reading's become my main hobby lately since there's more to get out of it than just entertainment.

If you're into movies try collecting movie props, replicas or originals. Far more expensive, but they are so much more high end and easy to display

>anhedonia
Ive been feeling that alot too lately. I dont play games but i used to watch alot of shows especially cartoons and i have done that drastically alot less in the past few years dud to depression and lack of anything new that interests me. I also dont enjoy toys as much as i used too in the same fashion and i think i need to try and get into watching shows again more and drawing again rather then wasting time thinking about depressing shit so much or buying stuff i dont enjoy like i used too because of completionist autism or impulse buying
