a good FDM printer is only a couple hundred bucks these days, low maintenance and not hard to get the tech to work, especially if you don't give a shit what software you're using, most of their closed source ones work fine out of the box if you're not going to get especially autistic. But those also have visible layer lines you're gonna have to do something about if you go that route.

The resin printers more relevant to figures aren't as cheap, but require good ventilation and a bunch of other considerations since you're basically dealing with liquid cancer. Also, while resin prints will have a smoother finish, they're very rigid and brittle with less forgiveness than plastics. They're good for statures but less optimal for articulation.

I've seen some experiments by 3D printers to jury rig one into a faux injection molder, but that runs into issues of scale.

In general, tan skintones are harder to come by, the figma styles bikini armor figure is a more recent one that uses the smaller joint in her arms but sadly she only has armored lower legs. Sozaichan bodies also come in a tan/brown version and are only compatable with the regular older peg size of figma.

Up top is the shotanon base body figure, compared with Conan. The joints used are different: the ones for shotanon's base body (made with Bakemonogatari Shinobu and Anzu Futaba's cross-compatible foot joints) are thicker, while the one for Conan is thinner.

What I'm looking for for my custom is a thinner-socketed leg so he can use Conan's grabby-feet options and wield a spear/knife/anything a bit more bizarrely, since I know Conan is a weird oddball among figmas for using thinner joints in the feet.

At the time, super articulated figures were very much not the norm. Stuff like McFarlane's 10-12 PoA figures were actually pushing the limits of articulation, and there was a few Trigun figures who claimed to be "super articulated" that by today's standards would be considered statues. It's a death trap for niche shit, is probably the main reason. You got the collector for as long as there are retro figures to redo, but that runs out and if you don't end up finishing the set before your company loses the license, it pisses collectors off and they turn against your company.

Super7 had decent success with their niche in the TMNT golden age for a few years, and then got absolutely rammed last year with Playmates changing the agreement for all their figures and allegedly blocking all remakes moving forward (so super7's 7" remakes won't "compete" with their planned 5" rereleases) and now they're stuck. They also sat on Usagi too long and now both playmates and usagi's agreements have changed and they can't release him (compare to neca, who pumped out multiple variants before the agreement shit happened).

And then super7 got rammed again with their small indie company vs economy in the toilet stuff going on. Now no one will preorder their new shit, and they have no new shit to offer. Anon has been waiting for pizzaface for years and they probably won't get him.

Meanwhile the Heman stuff was a huge success, modern remakes of vintage figures made a huge splash for them, but... they're running out of characters and they're dragging out the waves, plus doing extra waves of repaints and rereleases and side characters. Preventing people from completing their main collections doesn't actually cause them to wait around forever. Eventually people give up.

Like, the TMNT x Heman shit is fun, but distribution bullshit killed my interest in the line, so now instead of all in I'm totally out.

Yeah, and a rather lengthy one at that. First, the Polynians themselves aren't robots - they're aliens. Their initial arrival on Earth started a massive war that ended when a human soldier fell in love with and impregnated Clover (not Shamrock - he just helped raise the hybrid baby, apparently).
The Motoroids are (or rather, were) giant mecha that were built to fight the Polys, but after the war and peace treaty, the Polys gave humans the tech to create synthetic versions of their own crystal hearts, which were implanted into the mechs (called 'MotorWalkers') to make them capable of piloting themselves; some dudes on the moon decided to use the now-intelligent Motorwalkers as mining equipment, and when the Earth Government found out that this was basically slave labor (as the crystal hearts now gave the machines souls in addition to intelligence), it led to a second war.
At some point after that, more alien Polynian tech made it possible to shrink the now-sentient MotorWalkers down to human-sized, and also gave them the ability to change into a form similar to a Polynian, becoming Motoroids (like Torin and Pinkle). Motoroids can use the tech to swap between big mecha form and cutesy humanoid form whenever they want, Zentradi-style; modern advances in technology has also apparently made it possible for them to get pregnant/impregnate others.
By the time of the present, most humans are part Polynian (even if they don't look it), and Polys and Motoroids live alongside each other in a (relatively) peaceful world. However, there's currently some conspiracy going on where certain individuals are stealing ancient alien artifacts with the intent of starting another war, with the character Rosa being one of the bad guys (though not the leader).
That's just a brief summary; you can read the story on Daibadi's official site, though you'll need to translate the pages.

okay, but this is a standard you invented to get angry about. Every time they've sold soft goods it's been associated with a specific figure and sold separately. The only exceptions have been girls with no actual clothes underneath, the monkeys, the nikke girl, and bedtime aileen.

I'll grant you the parts missing from Annalise are pretty integral to the character but personally I'd prefer DLCs to hugely expensive figures. I think the bunny bike was advertised pretty heavily with aileen, especially the carrot swords that only came with the bike, but I definitely wouldn't have looked at her if she only came bundled with the vehicle. Being able to get their pumpkin princess sans pumpkin armor and giant weapons might've been nice with it in a separate box.
