They've kind of painted themselves into a corner where the Sketchbook Series can release this helmet and sandals design as "Concept He-Man" OR that Vykron on the 2-pack's box art.

I think it's mainly the fact that she looks like Captain Planet, which appeals to me, and also that She-Ra sits in the same part of my brain as Sailor Moon, so I want the She-Ra supporting group to kinda match the same roles. At least visually and for some reason she equates in my brain to Sailor Jupiter.

Developing a question from last thread, who'd be the weakest to strongest Evil Warriors if fighting them in a video or tabletop game?

Karg? He was a squad leader in the movie, but he doesn't seem to have any special abilities.
Blade: human fighter in partial chainmail with no magic or tech enhancements.
Two Bad: as tough as one strong guy disagreeing with himself?
Jitsu? Not much fiction to go by, and he lost to Fisto in the arena. Clawful on land might be Jitsu's equal.
Twistoid: robot strength/durability, no ranged attacks.
Strongarm: not a robot, but probably has more flexible abilities than Jitsu or Twistoid.
Kobra Khan: multiple ranged attacks and Filmation gave him Sssqueeze's gimmick before he existed, but presumably lacks durability. Might be on the level of his best friend, depending on how sneaky you think each is.
Saurod: has full plate and multiple ranged attacks.
Whiplash: biggest muscle, may e literal demon.
Webstor, Ninjor: intelligent, sneaky glass cannons. Ninjor may be a dragon man.

Situational:
Tri-Klops is a human fighter but his helmet gives him three special abilities. If you accept the 200X/Rev tech expert stuff, he should be able to wreck you in a prepared environment at Snake Mountain.
Clawful should be able to That Damn Crab an enemy around water.
Mer-Man in water with minions.

Spikor? Trap Jaw?
Stinkor: funneling enemies and monsters with area denial stink was pretty powerful in 200X.
Faker, Blast-Attak: both have robot strength/durability and special abilities (sneak attack from disguise if being blue doesn't give him away, bomb damage plus splitting)

Scare Glow?
Beast Man: tough and can control beasts, including flyers and Goat Man.
Evil-Lyn
Skeletor

That could be awesome if done right. "Done right" means Randor and Marlena fall in love at first sight, then get separated by antagonists and Marlena wears just a bikini and metal ornaments while using her Earth gun skills and learning swordplay to get Randor securely settled on his throne.
(I don't think the "super jumps and strength because Eternia has lower gravity would make sense, but we want as much Joab Carter of Mars flavor as feasible.)

Basically, Marlena has always been a Sword & Planet protagonist, just no one ever wrote the story beats that come before "marry local royalty".
You need something exciting to happen with purely local elements before the Horde invasion. Maybe you want Keldor to be fighting Randor for the throne by the time Marlena arrives. Maybe Miro is still around and they have to fight the Enchantress. A side quest could imperil them in the Vine Jungle with Gygor and young Beast Man.

Despite my misgivings about some of the casting, Travis Knight has a good track record as does the writer, but regardless of how the film turns out I'm still seeing it in the theatre because I just want to see MOTU do well moving forward. MOTU needs the cultural comeback, this would be a good boost for the toylines, and honestly Mattel needs some more muscle to compete against Hasbro who are starting to take the piss in terms of value for money and quality control on their lines.

Rejected name for She-Ra paired with the black bikini outfit the storyboard artists for the first 5 episodes/Secret of the Sword drew her in for lack of approved final designs to draw. You can see a bunch of these in the Filmation episode guide by James Eatock from Dark Horse.
Axel was pulling a Scott and wanting her to be a Sword of Protection user before Adora.

2009 was practically Classics Year 1, making 2015 Year 7, and they remade the last 13 vintage characters that year:
Flying Fists and Laser Power He-Men, Terror Claws and Laser Light Skeletor, Buzz Saw Hordak, Dragstor, Multi-Bot, Ninjor, Sssqueeze, Blast-Attak, Saurod, Twistoid and Rotar.

2026 is the equivalent year for Origins.
It got Ninjor, Buzz Saw Hordak, FF He-Man, TC Skeletor MUCH earlier, Sssqueeze somewhat earlier, and Dragstor might come out in 25.

In both cases, Multi-Bot, Blast-Attak, Saurod, Twistoid/Rotar and Laser leaders take forever. But Origins is also still waiting on Two Bad (Classics 2014), Stonedar (2013), Blade & Gwildor (2014), Tytus (2010!) and Megator (2011). If there was any communication from Mattel that they'd do these 13 before Christmas 26, things would be equivalent and I think we'd all feel much better.

But also by the end of 2015, Classics collectors had gotten this much Great Rebellion and Scorpia, Octavia, Entrapta and Horde Prime from PoP, of which we have little or no hope in Origins.
I'll analyze deep cuts between the two lines later.

Some things about the Son of He-Man pitch seem undercooked to me.

Dare is at least 12 years old and someone stole him from his parents 10 years ago, the same time Adam got married. King Adam and his queen have to be childless until they adopt Dare (presumably Scheimer didn't want to clutter the narrative with siblings for the hero). So is Adam infertile? I guess that would work in a kids' cartoon, since it's a recurring plot point in fairy tales.
A bigger problem is that the answer to the "Who are my parents?" mystery box was going to be Adora and Sea Hawk, "an unsolved mystery until the very last episode."
So Adam had lost contact with his only sibling, the heroine of Etheria, for at least 10 years plus the run of this show? The retired Randor and Marlena lost her AGAIN? And what happened to the Horde?

The pitch treats Orko as a main character who still has "a girlfriend, Dree Elle, back on Trolla". Geez Lou, it's been at least 12 years since the last She-Ra episode, let these two get married and reproduce.

Kayla is just a xerox of Teela, fair-haired warrior woman related to Man-At-Arms. You easily could and should make the main good girl something different.

Basically, all you really need to know in comparing the two:
Classics paced themselves with vintage. There was never more than 15 or fewer than 8 or 9 per year so it was consistent until the end.
Origins, by comparison, spammed vintage like a blast of explosive diarrhea all up front, doing like 25 in just the first year, year and a half, and then hitting the breaks hard after year 3 to only like 3 figures per year, making the wait more sluggish than Classics (even though Classics wasn't any further ahead by this time in its life cycle)

Classics also showed more early ambition since they were taking a slower walk with vintage. Like Gygor was in their second year, PoP was included from almost the beginig, Marlena was year 3 and year four had stuff like Procrustus, Photog and Granamyr. Whereas the bulk of Origins focus is on variants of existing characters. Just to use a recent example, were up to 3 Spikors now. (Not saying Classics had no variants, but they didn't seem like the bulk of the line)

NTA, but the most recent time writers had to worry about who they could use without getting sued, Filmation rando Ileena was drawn (and cast with Kevin Smith's daughter) before getting cut and Granamyr was red instead of mini-comic green.
But the Trollans aren't from PoP three cartoons in a row have had Orko wanting to go back but refusing to show any other Trollans. So the whole issue remains baffling.

Because the right bullshit only affects PoP shit, we've been over this.
They could use MotU Filmation stuff in their cartoons but could NOT explicitly use anything PoP.
>Rev used Shaping Staff, designed Ileena and used Aquaticans
>But could only use Despara because she's legally distinct entity from.She-Ra that's part of the MotU rights and circumstances could even physically show the baby when they did the flashback tease

So if you want to ship He-Man with Frosta and actually see it in a show, you can either make someone like Snowflake an expy with a Frosta-ish redesign and attitude or you can stick you thumb up your ass and whistle and wish for something that might never happen with Mattel getting the entertainment rights to PoP from Universal

Not trying to start an argument, but you can come across like a major buzzkill.
I didn't say anywhere that I was expecting to see this ship in any media. I look at all the talk on here as some fellow autists shooting the shit.
And furthermore, I think that at best we can say the rights issues are murky but unclear to us as outsiders. If you are speaking from an insiders perspective, awesome and thanks for the insight.

But in general I think a lot of the talk on here about how Mattel works is just BS. For exampme, we constantly hear about how expensive tooling is and how they can't do stuff right because it costs to much. Yet Mattel has the money to launch 3 Motu lines at once in 2020, much of which required new tooling with little to no reuse.
So we got the armchair toy execs trying to have it both ways. Can Mattel afford to tool up the whole CGI line to go straight to clearance but they can't give naked Stratos his necklace.
A few threads ago someone posted that Mattel is purposefully tanking PoP toys so they can buy the rights back cheaper. No one questioned this, it was met with general acceptance. But when Scott says anything everyone freaks out about how he doesn't know anything.
So there PoP right issues kind of fall into the same box for me. A bunch of people with half the story making assumptions and being selective on who they want to listen to.

Early deep cuts in Classics: King Grayskull, He-Ro, Goddess, Zodak
Origins has 3, will never have a Zodak who looks cohesive with the rest

2010: Keldor, Wun-Dar, Count Marzo, Optikk, Carnivus, Gygor, Tytus. Also noteworthy: proper Adora!
... I'm already jealous.

2011: Vikor, Faceless One, Marlena, Flipshot, Shadow Beast, Megator

One thing that jumps out at me is that PoP was limited to She-Ras, Adora, her steed, Bow, Catra and Shadow Weaver until 2013, with the odd exception of the Star Sisters. Then they did pretty much anyone you could want in 13/14/15.

Skellra is his own buck. So far no other figures are using these parts afaik.

The 200X figures are using the same body buck as on battle cat-man and Lion-O.

Origins figures are 5.5 inches if you hunch them down into a vintage pose, otherwise they're 6 inches tall when not stretching. So we can presume these new figures will roughly be the same size.

He didn't say that in the Pixel Dan video. He said "IF" you could stretch an Origin figure's legs completely straight, and straighten their torso they would be closer to a 6" figure. But there's no possible way to do that. So the Origins figures are slightly smaller than these and the cartoon collection figures, but not by much. Also look at Beast Man closer, it's completely and obviously the Mumm-Ra torso and lower legs.

This is why it's important to make the distinguish between 6" and 6" scale. Origins my only be able to stand at 5.5, but they scale at 6" though it doesn't help that every 6" line that exists now has scale creep. So even the Marvel Legends are supposed to be 6" scale, most figures are closer to 6.5".

Apparently it was because people at first kept calling it He-Man 2002/2003, on forums, and eventually someone came up with 200X as a shorthand, which also works because while the show only ran during '02 and '03, there were other things like comics and some figures that came out around slightly before and after. So the X allows for it to just be more all-encompassing.

I miss the circle jerking actual writers did there, which hasn't outlived the boards.

One of the 2002-3 writers told them that the artifact King Hiss used to briefly make Snake Teela and Snekaneck was going to be reused to make Duncan a Snake Man "permanently", because Mattel wanted to make vehicles for the Snake Men but they knew nothing about technology. And the good guys needing to replace him was his idea of how to use Clamp Champ. So many orgers complained that he walked it back to "he'd only be a Snake Man for about six episodes."
Anonymous No.11554208
Meanwhile Jack Olesker, who wrote much of The New Adventures, was claiming that with the Primus/Mutants conflict resolved at the end of Season 1, he was going to bring He-Man home only to find that Duncan had abolished the monarchy and was acting as a dictator with a chest full of medals and He-Man would find his mom, Teela and She-Ra fighting this, before Skeletor and Crita found their way to Eternia to cause trouble.

Mattel just cannot use She-Ra characters in television shows or cartoons.
They actually own EVERYTHING, even characters like Shadow Weaver and Fang Man have that same spiel on the back, and they can put anyone in as many toylines as they like

I mostly just want 5.5" DC characters, because there are a whole bunch beyond the A-list who have either met Eternians or would fit thematically. I wouldn't want variants to fill up slots that could go to, say, Zatanna.

Speaking of ideas on the nose, how about combining 2 most known black dudes in both franchises and making Clamp-Borg?

Would you want/be fine with them getting Eternian get-ups?

isnt it odd how many black tech guys DC has? Steel, Cyborg, Hardware, Mr Terrific. what's with that?

I swear, strong guys, tech guys and electric guys make up like 60-70% of black heroes.

Eh, sure.

>Would you want/be fine with them getting Eternian get-ups?
Depends on how it was executed. If "Eternian Starfire" meant much skimpier than what Injustice-verse Starfire wore when canonically meeting the Heroic Warriors, sure.
But I wouldn't want Martian Manhunter in the fur boots and loincloth when his iconic look is already something Conan would wear.

Thats like how many selfmade millionaires are superheroes. Tropes and cliches. Even if it is just a counter trope. Just another form of streetcredibility in using what you find.

Because they are good runners (Jesse Owens) and prominent boxers (Muhammed Ali). And they have a mythical character like John Henry.

Notice how easy parts sharing would be between the vintage Origins parts bank and DC superheroes.
Someone like Hal Jordan could use the wrestler buck with bare shins (like Tung Lashor has). J'Onn and Red Tornado just need the "pirate" boots (not sure these have been made yet, but Eldor and Blade need them) and in Red's case the gauntlet forearms (Tung again). There are finny shins and a scaly torso for Aquaman: he'd just need head, new forearms that combine scales and gauntlets and loins with his unique belt.

I wonder how much parts sharing Mattel will manage in their upcoming 2002 Cartoon Collection.

It looks like the big guys Clawful and Whiplash could share a torso, with Clawful having an add-on shoulder piece. >>11550547

I would have liked ToG to last longer.
Baxter is an A-list villain with an obvious Masters mashup: Modulok. Human torso, hips with a rear ball joint, that tail of Modulok's with leg plugs, and both human and fly heads/arms/legs.
It's not like they had to cancel it when they did or go to deep cuts few buyers recognize.

Nice to see some pics of toys. Shameful that CGI He-Man audio books got more acknowledgement than actual toys.
