Head is not good but you can always buy a custom, it's that torso that is killing me. It's so ugly and noticeable, it ruins the whole figure for me. Just articulation at the waist would be enough, this Batman barely moves even in the movies anyway, you are not going to pose him crouched or doing karate kicks.

I heard two stories about that. The first is that they had some legal trouble so they couldn't use the usual symbol in the movie, when they got the rights it was too late so they used they used in the marketing material but the movie kept the weird one. Another version is that the costume designer disliked the og logo because "it resembles an open mouth" so that person made a new one, which is pretty common in Pedowood, designers always want to add their own style to stablished things. Whatever reason is ugly as sin and I'm happy no one ever used that again.

guys, is todd retarded? serious question. I love him as a person, but this "I'll give the fans what they want when I absolutely need to" attitude is extremely damaging.
I also get the idea that he can't rely on big hits nonstop because he'll run out of them fast. however he wouldn't be in this situation if he wasn't "starving the fans" as he calls it.
he put out of few mediocre at best spawn figures then watched it all go on clearance and shelfwarm. he's hurting his own ip and the trust of the consumer. he'll have a harder time selling figures from now.
he lost the DC license because of obvious reasons, and now he's hoping releasing these movie characters this late into the game will make him enough money for them to renew the contract.
how about not pushing yourself into a corner first? it's good to have a backup plan but why force yourself to use it? fuck. I just wanted good toys, fuck his autism.

Maybe. I just think depends on the characters and the writer. Thereโ€™s no reason you couldnโ€™t fit everything you need to in a 3 act structure.
The shows would never have any baring on the films tho. Keep all of those small self contained personal stories. They could even be episodic.
The closest thing I can compare my idea to is the animated universe btas, stas and justice league.

Todd just made a lot of recent bad hires, most likely because he was handed good talent for cheap early in his career with 4 horsemen on toys and Capullo in the comics.

But once Todd started getting deeper, he stayed frugal with his hiring, but without the luck, making his toy company go downhill. A company is only as good as its employees. Rather than paying for good talent so he could excel, he tried to play it cheap and keep getting lucky, but no one can get lucky all the time. So now he is stuck making inferior products and not pushing boundaries, but instead he got into his comfortable position of "survival" as most long term players in an industry do.

He's a little good, a little greedy, basically the wrong guy in the right place. He was there to get the license but he doesn't really understand how the market change from the time of his McStatues and can't let it go of his ego, I bet he is surrounded by some Yes Men too and he thinks too much criticism is just "negative energy" or something, he strikes me as the kind of person that listen to the wrong people.

Well, no matter what it's too late, I hope Mattel gives DC the same love they seem to give to He-Man these days, and that they repeat Todd's mistakes. Like making thousands of Batmen, half of them looking to the side and wearing diapers.

Depending on how they handle armor, it's expected someone in an armor suit would make for a larger figure so it makes sense Todd probably made his figure too big.

The irony is that Todd's figure looks pretty much around the same level of aesthetic quality, so I'm not sure there's much of a benefit to getting that one besides added accessories or someone preferring the house style or disliking Todd's.

I get the feeling this thread is generally only really for new releases, not for people to blog about figures they like from McFarlane.

Here's my blog:

I own this BVS WW and I don't know why people don't just use it as a modern WW given the design is basically the same as many modern WWs in comics. Instead they want to buy that CE which I also have which is demonstrably worse in sculpt, paint, is too tall, and only wins in accessory count.

If you post about older toys people bitch and moan about the articulation, the design or some such, generally, except for really niche threads - but generally not in these.
Posting about new releases other than DCMV (or other 'collector' versions of McFarlane) by and large gets you shill commentary or negative commentary, which generally reeks of shill tier posts or generic copy pasta reposting negativity. They don't even bother to come up with anything funnier than 'McFart' or 'greasy' or similar and haven't in many months.
If you post pics, people complain about your stealing pictures from elsewhere, people complain about dust, people complain about poses, people complain ad nauseam about one thing or another.

Phone posting was a mistake but this board was bad before then.

Some people believe McFarlane is mostly misses but has some big hits randomly strewn about. I happen to be one of those. Perhaps people could post about what McFarlanes they actually enjoy and/or were surprised by the quality of?

An example for me was Ghost-Maker. It looks pretty much just like the comic design with extra texturing and paint placed properly (which is not a guarantee with many DCMV). The articulation is surprisingly good for a McFarlane with single jointed knees (which was pretty much the only way to do these knees properly to keep the sculpt looking right). There's a few issues like the sword holders being partly open and some of the usual flaws like elbow articulation looking 'cut out' but for what was a $20 toy at the time it is surprisingly good.

I got both Cyborg Superman.
Love the design, not too happy about the rubber diaper but that was Todd&company's decision. I know that piece will be the first to wear out over time.
I was happy with the Red version too but sold it since it was just a repaint and not the version he's becomes when he turns red.

I'll keep the OG Cyborg Supes cause it's a combination of 2 things I like : robots and Superman.

So the mr bones lithograph is more like a board than a sheet of paper like i expected. Its just that cheap sawdust board and its got siler spray paint around the edges but the print does look nice. Especially if you want an image of hippolyta in distress. Ive yet to mess with the figure but idk, i didnt expect to get a plankwith it.
Also im not sure how i feel about the head, it looks likre man wearing a skull helmet but it also looks comically big. The art they used for the litho isnt the best choice but what multiverse figure really had great card back/trading card art?

When i go looking for a specific item i dont buy consolation prizes when i dont find what i came for. I am more likely to spend more IF i find what i came for though, which is rare.

Some weird decisions. They made new legs but the boots and belt are wrong, why not go all the way since the arms, chest, head and cape are all new? Also the head seems too small and the eyes too close to each other. Still, seems like a fun figure and I'm mostly pleased. Shame I'll probably not be able to buy one since I don't live in the US so this will cost me an arm and a leg.

My impression is Mattel's average figure is within a smaller range, no extreme lows but no extreme highs either. Todd is all over the place. He might make a figure that looks great and then the next 5 look like absolute garbage. So in a way I kind of like that hit or miss aspect since you can just buy the good stuff and ignore the crap.

You never collected Mattel stuff then. Back when they were doing DC stuff, it was nothing but extreme lows. There weren't extreme highs either. Unless they've changed in the six years of so since they lost the DC license, which I doubt.

I don't collect IPs Mattel produces really. Last thing I got from them was their Ray Arnold figure from the JP Amber Collection. It was alright but still had worse plastic, paint and engineering than your stemsdard Hasbro figure at the time. If they've changed that's great, but I just don't have much experience with what they've done lately.
Anonymous No.11568210

Some MOTU Masterverse reviews can give you an idea of what they can do at their best. Probably still technically below MLs or Classified but not as bad as their old DC stuff for sure. Their wrestling stuff looks horrific to me so some teams within Mattel still are producing lower quality stuff. In a way it kind of depends on the people within Mattel assigned to DC

I have the 1/4 Batman and Penguin. They are pretty damn unposeable. You can stick their arms straight out to the front and... that's about it.
