/cg/ - Customs General - Wake me up when September Ends
What’s on the workbench, /toy/?

Sculpts, castings, original plushies, 3D prints, dioramas, mods, kitbashes, and repaints are all welcome!

Post WIPs, finished projects, ideas, techniques, ask for advice, and most of all, have fun!

HELPFUL TIPS:
-Invest in a rotary tool such as a dremel for sanding/sculpting, especially a flexible extension tip.
-Pin vises for drilling holes can be found at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and are great for making peg holes.
-For soft, flexible parts get Sugru silicone putty and Oyumaru
-Hardware epoxy putties such as Waterweld, KwikWood, and PlasticWeld are similar to milliput, greenstuff, and apoxie, can be cheaper some times, and can be found at local hardware stores such as Lowes, Ace, and Home Depot.
-Bootleg figures make great custom-fodder, especially if the legit figures are pricey.
-Body-chan/kun, Figma Archetype He/She, and Sozai-chan/kun are great base bodies for import-style human characters.

-For 3D models to use for editing, the following sites are good to bookmark:

>cgtrader.com (free and purchasable models)
>cults3d.com (free and purchasable models)
>models-resource.com (FREE 3D game models)
>turbosquid.com (free and purchasable models)
>grabcad.com (free and purchasable models)
>renderhub.com (free and purchasable models)
>makerworld.com/(free and purchasable models)

September is here, and so are gone 9 months of this year, i hope they treated you well!

So I'm working on a custom Batman inspired from Battinson that's meant to evoke Hasbro's style of figures. It's more or less done, but right now I'm genuinely torn between using a fabric or plastic cape. On one hand, the wired fabric cape gives more posing options, on the other hand the plastic cape cuts a nice silhouette around the collar/cowl. It's worth noting that the plastic cape isn't glued down to the edges so it should sit even more flush if I end up going with that option. For the fabric cape, this is about as flat as I can adjust its folds around the shoulders.

I kinda asked about this in the Marvel general, but I'm curious for people's advice and which one looks better? While I originally planned this custom with the fabric cape in mind, later I found myself really liking how the plastic cape forms a nice silhouette around the head/neck area with how clean it looks laying flush around the collar. I already own the Mafex, Figuarts 2.0, and Mezco 1/12, so it's not like this will be my only Battinson figure. In this case, I guess I'm more concerned on the balance of functionality vs aesthetics. Thoughts?

Cooking up a thicc preggers amazon that I’m just going to sell for others to tinker with, no joints or breaks in the sculpt, just Boolean however you want.

The actual interesting part is that this started as an edited tracing of a pregnant milf character from an Agata manga one-shot, drawn in MSPaint. Said drawing was fed into the Tencent AI 3D model generator with a few tries. Once I got it mostly to my liking I downloaded the STL and did some tweaks (original model was in a non-symmetrical pose with arms tucked in) before reverse-engineering it to where it is now. I’m really impressed how well the Tencent AI modeling can be most of the time, though there are some tricks that need to be utilized sometimes. With how well it can make 3D models of IRL faces, illustrations, photoshopped subjects, etc for base models to start from (and for free) it’s a godsend.

Yeah I can't tell if it's back lighting making the head look wider and/or it's me fucking up the camera focus so it ended up with a fisheye effect. I initially used smaller heads (around Bucky Cap scale) but they ended up making the body look way too buff so I settled on the Mezco head instead. If nothing else, I don't mind the thinner frame resembling Battinson.

Yeah I was thinking the plastic cape made him look "bigger". I think it's because of the wide shape and the thickness of the plastic which is what's creating the illusion of broader shoulders.

the eternal struggle. I think you nailed the flow of the fabric cape, so that one wins in my mind. but I wish someone made a version that like.. the part at the neck is plastic, then the amount of plastic-soaked-into-fabric decreases in a gradient, until it's normal fabric down past the shoulders.. Does anyone know if that would work? I mean that's how we used to make raincoats, minus the gradient obviously.

>I wish someone made a version that like.. the part at the neck is plastic, then the amount of plastic-soaked-into-fabric decreases in a gradient, until it's normal fabric down past the shoulders..
Yeah it's really frustrating. If I could somehow mix the smooth sculpt of the top part of the plastic cape until it cleanly flows down into a fabric one, that would be ideal. Bandai "sort of" tried with their SHF 1.0 but the plastic portion just wasn't flush enough and it just looked too bulky, like a shell over his shoulders.

While it was a tracing, it was also heavily edited with many parts. The original pic never showed the knees-down and also had hands cradling the pregnant belly with the arms overall thinner. The puffy vulva was a my own doing, the original's pussy nowhere near as plump. I also made it a tad curvier than Agata had in the bust, belly, and hips. At this point it's hardly the same as the original pic.

>>11567124
I won't be charging much, probably just $5 or $6usd for both a SFW version with a the vulva crease removed and a NSFW version that keeps the vag slit and will have sculpted nipples. Even with the AI generator I still had to make changes to the sculpt like adding the thigh gap for allowing modelers to separate the legs for adding articulation along with chopping up and re-sculpting the arms from their original pose (the armpits on this are 100% scratch-designed since the original arms were tucked in to the torso). Besides, this is just for users to mess with on their own and make their own custom designs from. When I eventually articulate this and sell it it'll be priced like my usual stuff and made for Sculpteo SLS nylon printing.

Yeah, this isn’t what pays my bills. I like making some pocket change for my stuff, and the sales’ money has come in handy for emergencies. My fully-articulated action figures are usually only $12 or so which gives me $10 net-profit per download, because personally I don’t want to be cost-prohibitive to 3D print anons who are just getting started in this hobby.

Thanks. While I think it looked okay, I really wasn't sure if the fabric sat decently on the figure and was curious for people's opinions so I appreciate your input. I'm working on my first custom figure ever and I have a couple questions I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

1: What's the best way to strip paint from a Marvel Legends figure? I usually use Simple Green for models, but ML figures are a different plastic so I wanted to check if there's a better option for them

2: After it's stripped I want to dye it. All the videos I watched about dying figures say you need to cook them at significantly lower temperature than the dye instructions say, but none of them have any specifics. I don't suppose there's a good rule of thumb, like, "don't go over 150 degrees" or anything like that?

And if that goes well I have some ideas for building a dronification station and making a little tableau

If you want clear saliva, get Games Workshop's (the Warhammer people) technical paint 'ardcoat. It's a gloss varnish that when applied in multiple coats makes a great clear gross slime. The pic is a model covered in 100 coats of the stuff.

If you want green saliva, they also make something called Nurgle's Rot. Which is the same as 'ardcoat but tinged a sickly green.

I'm 37 man. And I actually was taking omeprazole for the past couple weeks.

And it doesn't remove the refractory period, it's more like I'll jerk off for two hours in the morning and the same again in the evening. Often longer in the evening. Each session, like a normal masturbation session, involves cumming only once at the end. Absolutely fantastic orgasms each time, just out of this world.

And yeah I have started to get some painful spots on my dick. It's not a good thing to do! Don't goon, folks!

Same person? Acetone is what everyone uses on ML. It's fine and works well. Just don't leave it on for more than a couple seconds. Wipe with a acetone soaked Qtip, wipe with a wet paper towel soaked in water to remove any acetone left over, dry with a dry paper towel, and repeat. The harder torso plastics ae what you need to be really careful with since those degrade in acetone after a few seconds. The softer limbs and heads can withstands at least 10-20 seconds without damage so those are simpler.

What are you trying to dye? The first pic is almost all black plastic so dye won't do a thing to those parts. But a pot with boiling water, some acetone (like 1/4 or 1/5 the amount of water in the pot is what I've heard somewhere but you'd need to find a tutorial to double check), and some dish soap along with the Synthetics RIT dye. You'll have to just keep an eye on the parts soaking over several minutes to a few hours to see when each part has absorbed enough dye. Different plastics will absorb the dye at different rates. Then wash them really really well with soap and water. Some even put the parts in a sock and tie it off then run it through the washing machine. No joke. Then let the parts soak in water for at least 24 hours to see if any dye seeps out. After that, dry and clear coat with some matte spray before painting over top.

Have you ever tried Isopropyl alcohol? I've seen some people say it works and is safer than acetone.

I want the figure all black. Everything I've seen has said you should NOT boil the water because that makes the figure melt. Unfortunately they aren't specific at all about how hot you actually do want it. I hadn't seen the tip about letting the figure soak afterwards, that makes a ton of sense, thanks.

>IPA
No, i don't think that'll work. I use 91% IPA for resin print clean up and that won't strip paint off figures. Maybe 99% will with repeated scrubbing, but acetone is instant. Just wipe it on and the painted detail comes right off.

>Everything I've seen has said you should NOT boil the water because that makes the figure melt.
Boiling water is not hot enough to melt any of these plastics. You want it just under the boiling point I guess, but it won't melt plastics. It can deform super soft plastic like hair or capes, but that can be put back into the proper shape while it's cooling. Everyone is using boiling or close to boiling water to pop figures apart so it's not harmful. Thankfully dyeing black will be easiest, just be aware that over time (many months or years), the dye can seep out of the figure parts and ruin lighter colors painted over it. Especially black dye. So give the dyed parts a super good wash and let them soak for 24-48 hours to be extra sure as much dye that wills seep out has done so before you give it a clear coat before painting.

Been having some...difficulties with printing; massively oversupported the parts (to the point the rather thin pelvis overlays just instantly shattered when I tried removing them) and on top of that I let my resin get too cold, leading to major adhesion issues. Whoops! Ordered a resin heater to help with that now we're entering Autumn.
On the plus side I did get some parts printed, including a bunch of spares, meaning I'll be able to get a complete first figure soon.
A few things I've noted:
>Wrists work very well, definitely going to use these in future.
>Hip system seems a winner but need to see how it works with the overlay.
>Speaking of, I need to majorly thicken/reinforce the pelvis shell so it doesn't instantly break when you try and remove the supports. At present it's absurdly delicate. I've done this style before so I have no idea how I managed to screw up quite this badly, though the too-thick supports didn't help.
>Ankles work but are a touch loose. I'm tempted to redesign them slightly and trade the pin-secured hinge for a click-together one.
>Out of frame (only the NSFW version printed properly...) but the chest assembly works, however I need to adjust the tolerance between the shoulder ball and the socket as at present it's much, much too tight.
>The shoulder hinges work quite well once put together but are tricky and fragile-feeling to assemble.
Overall though I'm actually very impressed with how it's coming along. Also I actually don't have THAT much extra to reprint; the pelvises, the SFW chest, a left foot, a torso barbell and slightly smaller balljoints for the shoulders.
Once I've got the design down I'm planning on sculpting a swimsuit version for my Figma Ika Musume. She was my second ever Figma (though I hamhanded her and my current one is a replacement) and I loved the show, but always wished she could cast-off given how often she was in the swimsuit.

Mechanically identical. Needs less exposure during printing because it's a pale fleshtone; good because prints faster, bad because easier to overexpose. Regardless, very good resin.
Speaking of! I got my resin heater set up and printed a full plate of parts, with not a single failure- I now have the components to make 4(!) bodies! Tomorrow, once the cured resin has fully "settled" I'll assemble one and see how it works. I made a few very minor revisions (notably adding reinforcement bracing to the pelvis pieces, re-tolerancing the shoulder balljoints and lengthening the neck) so we'll see how it goes.

Having assembled two more from the parts I have discovered an additional design flaw; the thigh-socket walls are too thin. They don't break or friction-grind, but the constant tension causes them to very, very subtly deform outwards and loosen. could definitely see it as someone's weird cat acolyte in like, some kind of.. not Spawn, but... what... kind of a Hellboy kinda thing? Something with some art that's pretty stylized and out there.

I don't know if this guy is still around, or anyone curious, but use Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. Works the same as acetone, but it takes MUCH longer to do any damage to the plastic. At least I think it does, I've never had it damage anything. Doesn't leave the paint sticky either.

Anyone here known of people that take commission work on custom made plushies? I'm planning on getting a plush made of a character I played in a TTRPG.

That's me when doing complex painted rendering in 2d art. It's so weird how wrong things look, even when eyedropped from a real photo, until the SECOND it comes together

Will do. So far so good, I'm painting the silver in right now. Pearlescent white base coat is already done.
