Micro-Playsets
Thoughts on these? Always enjoyed them and thought they were neat, but outside of Polly Pocket, they don't really seem to be made anymore
Anonymous No.11586063 [Report] >>11586124 >>11586467
I'm hoping they get back in style some day. There always seem to be girly micro playsets available, but playsets for boys went out of style and never came back.

>I'm hoping they get back in style some day
Me too anon. But it seems unlikely. These kind of more detailed micro playsets like Mighty Max relied a lot on many paint apps and unique tooling for the 'shells'. Doing those kind of things these days is so expensive and exactly the kind of thing toy companies avoid. They like tooling they can re-use many times with different mold colors and stuff that doesn't have to be hand painted since that's more expensive than paint stamping and the UV printing.

That one small company was making new micro playsets that were kind of a Mighty Max knock off, but they're really expensive for what you get since they're small production runs

I hadn't heard of the Trick r Treat studios Micro playset before. Looks pretty cool, but I'm sure it'll be priced similarly to other small company ones and be like $50+

The Mattel Addams Family one is kind of nice but I still wish there were more micro sets sold at retail like the old ones that aren't that expensive. $30 for sets like that will never sustain a full line at retail sad to say.

Thanks anon! I agree I love them.
This particular set is from JSM Sofubi. It's about to go on sale via online lottery through their Instagram. I got this one through yahoo japan auctions, it just came out at a show last weekend. I didn't want to fuck around with missing it so I overpaid. They're very cool but if you're one of the people balking at the newer mighty max sets costing $50-80 you're not going to want these, which will cost you double that at least once shipping and tariffs come into play. Micro stuff like this are my favorite kind of toys so I don't really care what they cost so long as I can pick them up.

Mattel recently put out these playsets for the Jurassic World movie and they are alright. Plenty of sculpted detail, just not as much paint apps as Mighty Max. That's already a step up from those Polly Pocket and TMNT sets from the past decade, they use stickers for most of the interior.

They're basically hand made customs by individual creators like many sofubi, right? If thats the case, I get the price.

Those were great! I forgot those were out with the movie merch too. These very much felt like a cross between the detailed exterior of Mighty Max and the larger scale environrment interiors of those old Trendmasters Godzilla ones or the Primal Rage ones

Where? When? Last I heard they let some of the trademarks lapse or whatever, and some have said the legal stuff is a mess since some animation company or something has a partial stake in the characters

>PJ Lewis, VP of Global Marketing and Executive Lead for Action Figures said of the revival last year, “I think one of the things Mattel has done very well is manage the nostalgia aspect of [collecting], and Street Sharks and Mighty Max, I feel like it fits perfectly. Mattel has one of the richest IP libraries in pop culture, and I think the retro-nostalgic brands — be it Street Sharks, Mighty Max, and more — have opportunities of being reinvented. And at the same time, have opportunities for fans that grew up with them to relive some of those memories and storylines, and own a piece of that as an adult.”

Thats a good idea. Make it a trapdoor like feature. Put a Qui-Gon mini figure on it, flip it, the minifigure vanishes and the victim floor panel is visible.
You could get him in the MicroMachines Tatoine Desert and Action Fleet Republic Cruiser. I looked it up.
