Probably the most cohesive but pretty boring overall, looks kind of simplistic and the random snow bricks all over look terrible. Pros are having a ship with a shipyard and the octopus floor decoration, although it's too big too much wasted space.

Easily the most interesting in terms of storytelling and ideas in the set. Having a rickity bridge over a massive sea monster is kino of the highest order. Yet it's by far the most ugly of the bunch, just terrible and drab from an actual design perspective.

Speak for yourself. For me, the Hydra Shipyard is fantastic. The only thing I would like modifying is the kraken floor pattern being made up of custom pieces so you don't see any studs.

It's okay for me, like I said best of the bunch, but for such a large set to have a massive amount of open space and the interiors to be nothing but a chair at a desk and a cot in a cell it's pretty weak. It's neat but leaves a lot to be desired imo.

Forgive the AI slop but I can't help but like it more than any of these. Sea monsters, statues of sea gods, fishermen.. I know it's a shipyard but it feels so dull for what it could be.

I feel like such a stick in the mud but man, the Bricklink program makes me so bitter every time I see it. Feels like it's the same shit every time and no one has an ounce of creativity, much less the ability to make a decent set rather than a fragile MOC.

The little robot dude in next February's batch is probably the only set that has actually stuck out because it's not in the usual AFOL theme of castle/western/train/modular

Can someone explain these to me?
Are they sets made out of spare parts or is Lego making Octopuss team equipment? Is it 3d printed?

People vote on custom sets(MOCs) created by the community to become real sets that are never sold in stores and only available for order for a limited time(and often, for a limited number).

The sets must be made out of currently in production parts. So for this round of votes, most of the entries are just various castles of the new castle minifigure factions since people are excited about those.
Usually only 5 sets get picked and most people that vote are AFOLs who focus on city modular buildings, so it's heavily skewed towards that. Theres so many castle options lately that more of those are getting submitted and getting through, like there's currently a Wolfpack castle up and the next round has a really great desert castle.

Put my spooky house back tougher. Gave the bricks a good washing to before assembling as well. Pieces fit together so much better after a good cleaning. The barn build is kind of dull so I think I should modify it a bit.

Ah yes, Nexo Knights. The theme I really don't give a shit about to the point I forgot it even existed. Sorry, I thought that set was a DC theme when I saw the jester at the top of the tower. Nexo Knights are so forgettable that I mistook it for a different theme.

Made a Harry Potter car for tall Frodo. Needed the metal polish to shine up some of the more beat up bricks that I had found. It brings back the shine, almost too good though. If they’re any bite marks or gouging it accentuates them. It does add to the character though. All bricks are useful.

So, as someone who has never bought or built a Brick Shop set before, I just finished building the Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar and I've got to say I'm impressed. Lego will have some competition if Mattel branches out into different themes, or poaches 3rd party licences that have been a staple of Lego for decades (like Star Wars). There were only two major flaws I had with the build:

1. Stickers are awful. Instead of stickers, Mattel should just stick extra blocks that have pad printing along side parts that don't. Then everyone gets the option of which one they prefer.

2. One of the red pieces for the car seat was discoloured. Not only was it a slightly different shade of red, but it also had black streaks mixed in with it. Looks to be a quality control issue. This was the only piece that had it, but this is also my first Mattel Brick Shop set, so in terms of first impressions this was a big letdown. I hope this isn't a common issue.

For those that are wondering if Mattel bricks are compatible with Lego bricks. From the limited Lego I have right now (I've only just started to get back into it this past month), I can say yes, but it is currently inconclusive. I need to do more tests, but the platform piece for Lego minifigs clicked in like Lego.

Mattel Brick Shop sets appear to give you more bang for your buck when it comes to the plastic pieces. Plus they make some unique pieces that would be extremely handy for terrain and structures. I did notice a slight difference in colour when connecting the black platform piece to the black pieces for the Cadillac GTP Hypercar, the best way I can describe them is that they're not black, but the darkest shade of grey you could imagine.

As a side note for the other colours, the red and blue is different Lego's red and blue. This might make for interesting shade techniques when combining brands. All in all Mattel has what it takes to go toe to toe with Lego, providing they don't just stick to cars.

With castles you can complement the grey with colorful roof tiles, green grass/trees, different colors of wattle and daub sections, any color flags and banners, any color painted window frames, doors, and wooden railings. There's also the possibility of making non-gray stone walls (eg black, white, tan).
But of course Lego decides to use ugly straw thatching, plain white daub, and generic brown wooden doors for the LKC.

Not to be racist but I just think it's funny how all the main characters from the actual Star Wars movies in the Death Star set (except Leia) are white men and then almost all of the generic background characters are brown, and half of them are women. I can't tell if this is the fault of Disney or Lego themselves but they keep putting sassy black women in the empire and I think it's having the opposite effect of what the propaganda is supposed to be doing.

I PABed together some housecarls, a village elder, some random villagers, and a chad boyfriend for the hot stacy viking girl for the viking village. I also added a berserker made using the CMF barbarian. I think it fills out pretty nicely with some more figures in it. I'm going to have to make another PAB order soon though since I just bought the medieval village and I know already that it needs way more minifigures to look complete.

Mark Stafford openly spoke of having Speed Champions envy when he talked about designing the Forever Batmobile last year, which I thought was funny because the set was scaled much larger than the preceding Batmobiles since 2021 that were more or less in Speed Champions scale. Now that the Speed Champions envy is in the open with three $30 cars next January, I think it's deliciously ironic that the Forever car, as a strangely large set, is followed by the B&R car bludgeoned into scale as a kiddy car, when the prop car is fifty percent longer than the 1989 prop car so it could legitimately hit an overpriced ninety buck price point if it were done to scale at Speed Champions standards. Not that I'm complaining. That's one car where I'd much rather have a cute little playset than a larger display model stuffed with gonzo building techniques.

Well I might pick up the Pattmobile, but man is this a disappointing wave. The builds and figures (with the exclusion of the logo) are all pretty decent and it’s a nice milestone to have every mainline live action Batman represented in Minifigure form, but seriously?! Not 1 other character?! Not even in the sets based on movies where the TITLE features another character!!

The BvS one is the most egregious with the Batman figure being the suit he only uses to fight Superman and at no other point in the movie. You mean to tell me the budget would really be sooooo stretched by including one new Superman torso print with a reused head, hair, legs, and cape!?

I have a similar bone to pick with the B&R one, in that if they had gone with Batman’s main and less detailed suit from the majority of the film they would once again probably have the print budget for a head and torso for the other title character.

Aaaand then there’s the logo… the only “compliment” I could possibly give it is that comparing it to the other two logos gives a really good chart on where each theme is at. Star Wars is plagued with the 18+ brand, Marvel’s comes with under detailed and inaccurate Minifigures plus a poorly thought out play feature, and then this is flimsy and comes with nothing but two Batman figures.

I don’t understand how Lego can go from showing they understand the fan demand with a set like Arkham and then turn around in a matter of months and give us this.

It’s a good thing DC customs are becoming more prevalent, even if a lot of them are on the expensive side, at least it’s something other than Batman.

I really can’t stand the new cowl piece. It looks so goofy compared to the one we had for all of the 2010s and it looks nothing like the cowl Pattinson has in The Batman. It’s like the Batman version of that Yoda headpiece from the Young Jedi Adventures set.

I’m in a Lego desert and three and a half hours from a Lego store. There are two second hand shops about 40-45 min drive but they both have issues. The hours are terrible for both. One has no selection but is easier to visit and the other has a godly selection but is just a tax dodge and not a real store so purchasing and browsing is terribly limited and prohibitively expensive.

I just spent 20 minutes searching Bricklink for sets containing a certain part because I found it on my floor and wondered what set it went to. I didn't own any of the sets listed as containing this part so I was stumped as to where it came from. Then I looked over my collection and immediately realized where it came from. Is Bricklink just useless for searching in this way since it apparently doesn't actually know what sets contain what parts?

Today I tried to recreate this cute simple hot-rod design by Henrik Hoexbroe (image for reference)

But after testing it out in stud.io I realized that there is no minifig on Henrik's moc because it can't fin a minifig. The roof is too low for it.

What is the better pirate ship set? The Going Merry or the 3 in 1? This is for my kids.
I really dont like the look of the sails on the 3in1 but maybe I was spoiled by the cloth ones. However the Going Merry doesn't come with pirate mini figs.

it seemed like such a cheap thing to do, like they gave up before even trying. but the consistency of them all being similar made them kind of like the Pokemon cards, where the cards are all the same size, too.
