The reviews I read said it's big on eye-candy visuals, but the story sucked. They confirmed that it's a soft-reboot where the writers did like the last POTC movie and said "FUCK CONTINUITY AND CANON! WE'RE GONNA DO THINGS OUR OWN WAY!"

So yeah it comes down to shit writing for a shit story. It breaks my heart. I was really hoping that it was going to be good. At least we have a clear answer for why toy-makers avoided the merch. They knew it was gonna suck.

No pixelated explosion effect part to put next to aforementioned 90 degree light trail? I can't see them offering any more of these figures in this scale if all the main characters are a Haslab, so this needed to be more expansive.

Same. Looks like they are forcing that light up display stand as part of the $260 price, and I didn't see a single stretch goal. $260 is WAY too much, and fuck your fucking display stand. They could have brought in the rest for under $200.

I love 3.75, these would have been fun to mix in with my Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but I simply refuse to pay $260 for this. Not to mention they need 10k orders to get there. This is just insane.

I just don't see this one funding. $200 or less would have been the sweet spot for me (seriously, get out of here with this forced display bullshit!). People "say" the same shit because they are retarded NPCs. Star Wars has been on the shelves now for 30 years continuously for the modern era. People have collections of Cantina Aliens and clones and shit so its natural to add to it with those.

This Tron set looks like a complete "one and done", its its own thing, doesn't mesh with anything else Tron related, and even worse it heavily implies there won't be anything else later like Ram or a Red cycle. It IS the collection, it is not a hole in a collection you've been working on.

I can absolutely see this stalling out. I would have been all over this at retail, and "Program" is kind of an army builder and I'd have wanted a few.

This is a completely new beast, where its a blip on the radar that if you miss it, there's not stuff before or after it to notice its absence. Its so completely tone deaf I'm really shocked at Hasbro.

I would have backed at $150. I probably would have for $200. At $260 plus tax plus shipping ($34.99 surcharge for non-Premium members), Hasbro can take their 16-inch wide USB-C light up display stand and shove it up their ass sideways.

I hate that I'm actively wanting this to fail, but I want it to fail to teach Hasbro a major lesson of doing better to meet customer expectations.

I can't help but feel it's on purpose.
Think about it, this's ostensibly all to tie-in to Ares' release, yet not a single Ares toy is actually being made. The only toys being made are exclusives, not going out to retail. The big-ticket Haslab is horrendously overpriced.
I feel like they engineered everything specifically to fail; they don't want to bother with a retail wave, they don't want the Haslab to actually fund.

Hasbro likely has no faith in Tron Ares bringing in interest to begin with and are doing this out of obligation, and looking to drop their involvement with the IP ASAP so they can go back to focusing on TF/Joe/Marvel/Star Wars.
Anonymous No.11595920
>>11592447
While I agree with the sentiment that that price on the set is too high and making people commit to buying an entire line is too big of an ask for casual fans, I think Hasbro new that the new movie was going to flop and hedged their bets heavily on the toy line. It's possible that they commissioned the sculpts before they had seen the new movie, and after watching it they knew it wouldn't survive at retail. Rather than spending millions on a toyline that would end up at Ollie's, they dumped the whole thing onto Haslab to give hardcore fans a one time chance get it, and as it turns out, the hardcore Tron fandom is not that big, the hype and good will from Tron Legacy was allowed to burn out by waiting too long for a sequel, and Tron Ares basically killed any chance at the IP having a serious revival.

The annoying part is that these things probably could have found at least a small market as souvenirs at Disney parks since they have a Tron light cycles ride now, but clearly Disney didn't have enough faith to put in a full order for the line at their own expense, so instead of being a retail item it ended up being a crowd funder that isn't getting funded. A sad fate for a niche but well loved IP.

Look at the figures closely. They're a new sculpt format for that scale that allows better sculpt quality. They have better head sculpts and overall they're proportioned the same way 6" figures are.

See it here:
>>11589365

Hasbro really went out of its way to improve the 3.75" format of figures. That's obvious. I actually really like what they did in that size a lot, and I would not complain if they did Joes and toher lines like that. I just can't afford it at that price.

As a Tron fan I liked a lot of elements of it, not the worst blockbuster to come out this year by any stretch but that being said it was a significant step down from Legacy in every way.

The world-building especially was lacking. So little is spent in the grid and most of it is just in a single room where Dillinger talks to Ares. The music was fine at times but other times it felt out of place. The costumes and action all felt subpar outside of a few moments. Also felt a lot of it was edited out or rewritten after the fact.

Also I wish we actually got Tron in the OG grid instead of Flynn (or have both of them). Ares is a program that breaks his conditioning and fights for a user is similar to Tron/Rinzler.

Still, I liked some of the little details included and would probably rewatch when its out online.

Just want to point out that this will be reality in probably less than ten years. The powerful AI tools that movie makers use to save time and money will eventually become affordable to the general public. So a movie that might cost 200 million to make might only cost 20 thousand or less. The effect will be similar to how home recording and Internet distribution devastated the Music Industry (who never recovered), but now with the Film Industry. Clip this.

Originally the Cantina was supposed to be $50 dollars cheaper and have 2 more figures.

The gunship was shown to a market research group for $350 and more stuff and was voted worst of the four they were shown.

Which goes to show Hasbro will always make the least exciting item with a way worse version when solicited.

The overhead on 12" figures is lower than on fully plastic figures because the manufacturer only needs one buck, and most of the plastic parts can be molded in softer materials that are less expensive to manufacture. Inversely, the cost of making them doesn't really decrease per unit on large orders, so making them as high end collectables makes the most sense. Even if they make less than a thousand of these the manufacturer will sill probably make a profit.
