I mean, we are now at the point in the show where they copied the toys exactly, so.. naturally the new toys will be copies of the old toys.
that said, I can tell in an instant the parts that are changed. The shrinking chest plate. the visible pinned shoulders. the much smaller and smoother pauldrons (which seem to fold around to the sides in beast mode, making the scorpion's abdomen wayyy too thick). he's different. I will get him when he's on sale.

I need help because i cant remember the name. But I swear, back in the CHUG days, on /toy/, around the time people talked about lucky draw transformers, people started talking about... I think "Lunchtime Transformers" or Lunchbox" or "Workbreak" or something like that transformers. They were considered KO's but they were made in either clear or unique colors of the CHUG figures, in actual factories, using the actual molds, usually during a break like lunch. They'd show up on sites for sale and sell out quickly because they were usually low runs of figures.

Am I losing my mind or is this a real thing. Ive searched and found nothing.

"Lunchtime Specials" were made off-the-clock by Chinese factories, using the actual molds and even plastics intended for authorized product; as such you could argue they're a more complicated way of stealing.
This is distinct from the wave of KOs created from copying the official molds, often in whacky colors.

Dear blog. I am currently watching Transformers Armada and Animated on youtube. Damn, Armada is bad. And damn, Animated is good. I am used to cartoons being so horrible, so barebones, that Animated having as much actual animation as it does caught me off guard. man they are never gonna get him right, are they? I realize it's a tall order, he has to knucklewalk, said knuckles have to be made of small vehicles that somehow also have their own robot modes, his head has to be a cement mixer that is also somehow a robot whose body is not just Devastator's head parts in a different arrangement.. Ideally his mouth has to open, or at least we want to see the intake fan in the mouth, and then the output fan on his back... oh and he has to be massive. That helps with the whole 'individual robot modes' thing, but hurts everything else.

you can tell someone at Animated sat down and said 'look, there's no fucking way a current day western animation studio can handle complex robots.. but we're also not drawing this wacky fucking stretchy graffiti-looking shit like the concept art they gave us. so we're gonna strip this down. Really simple shapes, simple lines, and then it'll be a LOT easier to animate them doing things so they don't just have to sit there and wobble their mouthplates for whole scenes"

Armada's problems are mostly that the US received a rushed version, so there's a lot of rough spots both in the animation and in the quality of the dub, the Japanese version Micron Legend is overall an improvement in both animation and script, so might be worth switching versions

Energon/Super Link is a trainwreck(like it's probably the second worst show in the franchise after Beast Machines), while Cybertron/Galaxy Force is overall considered pretty decent

He can knuckle walk and is perfect legends scale in combined mode. You'll never get a SS or MPM scale version unless it's $1K+ and you'll never get perfect scaling in all modes because the movie model has even more vehicles in the limbs and Mixmaster doubles in size when he becomes a head. The only way to solve it is to make it to make it a 10+ member combiner.

The guy who made Animated WAS a fan at heart. Also, imo the only toys worth tracking down are Starscream, Ironhide, Swoop, Snarl, Waspinator, Leader Bulkhead, and Voyager Optimus (Wingblade if you're lucky). Animated was extremely experimental, what with designers struggling with DJW's wonky design accuracy and function

Okay: firstly, Armada dub sucks, like the other anon said - watch Micron Legend.
That said, the first 20 eps of it regardless are of a lesser quality to the rest of the show - not bad, but very meh. It picks up almost immediately after that, so feel free to skim.

What the other anon gets wrong is that Super Link is actually very good. Like ML, it also has padding issues though (this time in the middle-back end), and it leaves some plotthreads open for the third entry... but then for Galaxy Force, the new studio went and decided to make it another reboot.
Galaxy Force is meh overall, if you ask me. There's padding too, but a more consistent padding this time in the form of lots of very very long stock animations. I find this form to be more boring than the first two's more uneven padding, personally. It's a more lighthearted super-robo anime, but I just couldn't appreciate it as much as I hoped to. Maybe I'll enjoy it more after I watch all of the Brave anime, but eh, I'm not holding my breath.

Moral of the story is to try everything yourself, form your own opinions, and don't let others dictate yours - not even me!

Honestly, I preferred Super Link. It's not without serious flaws, the abrupt end to Demolishor and Starscream's character arcs or Inferno's tragic death being immediately undone to name a few, but the plot moves at a satisfying pace and it was refreshing to have a show where the Decepticons pretty much always win each episode.

It wasn't animated's fault that IDW all a sudden decided to pander to tumblrinas and become a bad fanfic written by that brit hack james roberts. I think this post alone shows how self centered transformers fans can be since IDW not only shoe horned this crap in transformers but also the TMNT comics and to an extent in some places, Sonic. This is entirely IDW's and their writers own doing, not any pre existing shows.

No idea why Pulse is shipping my orders one character/pack at a time instead of together like they were placed, but whatever - my G2 Snarl and Slag/Slug are here.
I mentioned it when I reviewed G2 Grimlock, but these guys are special to me - Blue Grimlock was my first Transformer ever, and Green Slag and Red Snarl each belonged to my two brothers; we got them all that same Christmas day. I know there are people here who aren't fans of the G2 colorschemes, but I have some rather fond memories of my brothers and I going on adventures with our brightly colored Dinobots, even if they didn't match the show.

I was disappointed at the time, and only watched the first half of the first season. It wasn't until years later that I sat down, watched the whole thing, and ended up actually enjoying it. Guess it was just one of those "2Deep4U" things that didn't really resonate with most kids when it aired, but ended up being actually somewhat decent once you were able to see what it was they were going for. I'm just disappointed that we didn't get some of the more interesting designs on the show, like Battle Unicorn, Night Viper, or Buzzsaw (though for the latter, they would've needed to introduce him at the end of BW first so his story arc could be preserved).

His horns annoy me. They come on a runner, so you have to cut them out and trim/sand down the nubs before you can use them - which normally wouldn't be a huge issue, except they're molded in the same blue plastic as the rest of his body and are painted that matte purplish-pink. This means that, when you remove them from the runners, you're left with blue spots on the underside of his horns, and unless you have that exact shade of matte paint to cover them, you're stuck with them.

I feel this goes for most of the franchise, tho. Like from this perspective, S1 Beast Wars is great, but S2-3 are definitely bogged down by all the Transmetals, and Fuzors, and TM 2's, whatever Optimal Optimus is, blehh...
Then you have stuff like the comics, which I think are all fucking awesome, but despite their long ongoing older-targeted plots, they still had to have pretty blatant toy advertising within them. Marvel cycled out their supporting cast by whoever's new toys need advertising right then. Even IDW had to have those lousy Generations tie-ins by making the characters designs' change to resemble their new T30 or Prime Wars toys, and then the reboot was basically exactly all Siege designs.

Really, I think the only TF media that didn't feel at all like they were written toy-first were TF Animated, the Bay films, WfC/FoC, TF Prime, and Earthspark.
Being able to tolerate a bit of advertising just comes with the territory in this franchise, I think.

Plus I remember the rotor actually goes backward a tiny bit at the end of every revolution. Not a smooth rotation at all. Really prefer the quieter and faster spin they worked out later. Bulkhead, Live Convoy, Blackout all do the rotor thing better... but I grant you, none can do the minicon turret gimmick so I get why they went with big chunky gears like they did.

Do think it's neat how you could pull out the rotor gimmick on Bulkhead and make it a handheld weapon, and the mechanism still works as normal when you put it back in for vehicle mode later.

Have the wasp head parts fold away in jet mode (maybe just a tad further back), let the legs fold together more cohesively in vehicle mode (but without compromising their shape, no Kingdom Dinobot Hands Syndrome here), maybe looking more like under-wing-slung weapons pylons, increase the robot leg length, and let the abdomen fold up a bit (the robot legs can borrow meat from the abdomen if they want)

Anonymous No.11602353 >>11602359

Depends on your collection and how often you play with toys and pose them.
>>11602344 lists the baseline stuff, but some other stuff that should be noted:

86 poses so much better. It's honestly wild. Butterfly joints and better arm proportions make the posing amazing.

Earthrise has better interactivity with modulators/weaponizers/armorizers/junkions/amalgamous prime due to his voyager size. You'll be able to make cooler looking armor up modes.

Earthrise has the better transformation. I know its already been said but it's worth saying again because it's true. The way the grill folds out from behind the windows is genius and I think that earthrise has the best Optimus transformation of all time. It's so simple and clean.

Earthrise's trailer is incapable of storing most other transformers, you'll only be able to fit earthrise cliffjumper or 86 bumblebee or other similarly small and thin vehicles. Legends/core class/cyberworld fit nicely. The trailer loves to tip over from it's shitty stand and the outward flaps don't hold weight too well.

Earthrise's aesthetics are more 'realistic' while still obviously g1. He'll fit in with other War for Cybertron/legacy robots/vehicles and some of the earlier 86 releases. He's probably not going to look the best against super toon accurate figures like the new 86 thundercracker though.

Ultimately.. go for 86 prime if you can find him in the wild, but earthrise prime is not a bad option at all.

Not that anon, but there's also a small piece on each side of his torso that's assembled wrong in many figures. If you look at the figure in robot mode, it's a tiny blue piece amid the sea of red just above the waist on either side. It doesn't really affect the functionality of the transformation, but due to its asymmetrical shape, it can leave very minor stress marks when transforming if it was misassembled. Mine came with one put in correctly, and the other done wrong, but I feel like it's a far more minor error than the heels from the initial batch. I also remember numerous people complaining about paint on the face, but that sort of thing is pretty common with most TF figures these days, so the real problem was just it happening on such an expensive figure that doesn't have a window on the box for you to check for that sort of thing before buying.

All that said, I own both the SS86 and Earthrise versions of Optimus, and I consider the SS86 one to be such a vastly better figure that it's not even close! And not just because it's a bigger, more complex figure. Sure it's more expensive, but you get so much more for your money than with Earthrise!

Those aren't the only issues. There's also some fitting issues on several parts, mostly the arms. Many heads had some scarring or warped details. The sides of the abdomen would also come with nasty stress marks right out of the box, even without the misassembly issue.

Sort of related, the plastic sed for the elbow joint isn't that strong and you could break it off pretty. My friend had his fall too the floor not long after it arrived anf that the elbow snapped clean off. Love this figure. I have it and the yellow version. Definitely top 10 beastwars figures, and looks really good with TM Tarantulus, two figures that have always given me series Kamen Rider vibes.

Both of mine are missing the weapons, but it really doesnt take away from the overall amazingness of the figure.

According to the article it's adapting all of the Energon Universe, not just the Transformers portion of it. At the very least you're fitting in all this for the first season
>Void Rivals 1-6
>Transformers 1-6
>The Duke & Cobra Commander miniseries
>The 2024 Special
Yeah it sounds like a lot but you'd get
>The first big Autobot/Decepticon fight on earth & Sparkplug's sacrifice
>Darak & Solila escaping Zertonia and venturing into the wastelands
>Duke is asked to join GI Joe by Hawk
>Cobra Commander & Destro team up to properly form Cobra
>Megatron breaking out of Cobra-La as the season finale
If you do 1/3rd of the runtime for Void Rivals stuff and 2/3rds of the runtime on Transformers/GI Joe stuff you'll hit a pretty decent balance.

Void rivals and GI Joe might not hook people but Transformers will be STRONG. If hasbro drops prices (which they won't, unfortunately.) and re-releases the energon universe characters on shelves, Transformers might be revived.

I hope that this animated series causes hasbro to refocus the movies towards providing side stories for the energon universe tv series. An extended movie about Jazz's love for music like the 2025 special has would be amazing.

My guess is that if they decide to adapt the Void Rivals stuff, they probably won't start with it. The only reason Skybound began their Energon comics with Void Rivals in the first place was so they could generate buzz with the surprise appearance of Jetfire, making it a stealth introduction to their Transformers continuity. Since that element of surprise no longer exists, I'd wager the animated series will begin with the main Transformers storyline, then possibly introduce the Void Rivals characters in a flashback after Jetfire arrives on Earth. From there, Void Rivals could either be a subplot they cut to now and then, or it'll be a spin-off mini-series. Either way, it'll be easy to keep it compartmentalized since its direct impacts on the ongoing storylines for Transformers and GI Joe on Earth and Cybertron have been relatively minor thus far.

For Maximals, I've said it before, but I'd love to see a modern Battle Unicorn - this time as a properly-sized warhorse that other 'bots can ride around on. Night Viper can be revisited, too, and poor Silverbolt deserve a proper toy this time around - either as an actually-decent Condor or as a Gryphon (which I'm still convinced was the original intention).

From a business standpoint, they've still got the molds, they're still taking up space somewhere, I imagine it's gonna be hard to resist not using them again to print more money at some point just for the sake of not angering people who take solace in their exclusivity. I'm skeptical about Unicron because that seemed like a logistical nightmare lol

I just watched a video of a couple boomers totally seething mad that a new Classified Hiss tank is in the pipeline. Its ridiculous to think that Hasbro will never make another. I dont think they EVER outright promised to ever redo a haslab. Theyre also rereleasing the Proton Pack, doing exactly what everyone intelligent expected which is stripped down versions. They will undoubtedly make a new Unicron some day. Pretty sure its already a rumor that hes coming in a smaller form which many people want. Haslab Unicron is a sweet display piece but thats it. Its awful as a toy. I will concede that I am assblasted I didnt back Liokaiser.

For sure. I remember WAY back in the day how upset some folks were that Takara were releasing the same Classics seeker characters that were in a BotCon box set. Just felt like I was on a different planet because I just see this as a fun hobby I guess? And if other people enjoy the same figure as me, I think that's neat? Just wild how that collector mindset manifests itself sometimes.

>>11604264
I have haslab Unicron, and I'd totally go for an updated Armada version. I think they could actually use what they implented from the haslab on an Armada redo with the folding panels to pretty good effect for the planet mode kibble, just by having it be on his back or something.

But of course he needs Dead End. I always had him bully the other minions when I was a kid, he just brought that energy.

No, I agree - what I meant is that he's built like a warhorse with those big bulky shoulders and that broad chest and neck - dude's all muscle, not some scrawny, elegant pony thing like what most people think of when they hear 'unicorn'. What's more, he turns into what's supposed to be a hulking knight with a huge battle-axe; the dude definitely deserved to be in a larger size-class than what they put him in, and I feel a modern version of him should be at least a Voyager-class so that he's actually big enough to ride - and big enough to make his robot mode look as imposing as it was clearly meant to be.

Behold the Tonkanator team

I don't have an official devastator. The recent reissue and The encore are too expensive on the aftermarket where I live that this is the best way to get the devastator mold

Having play with them I can certainly see why the kids back in the day love it.
They are simple to play and easy to transform. yes they might be rudimentary but they are fun and you can play them as actual construction vehicles with hot wheel/tomica

The few complaints I have are that I wish they didn't apply the sticker a lot of them are not straight at all. And also I think it just the engineering the time a lot of thing I wish they click in. And for some strange reasons half the team don't have holes to plug in their guns and other one half do. I really don't see why they couldn't punch a hole on Long haul or bonecrusher for the guns.

Playing with them I wonder if hastek should just also go back to the basic. Having a line of much simpler also smaller vehicle to robot line. The current classic or generation line is great but they are really expensive due to the fact how complex they are.

I wonder how they will make a missing link devastator

From what I can tell online for Tonkanator they fixed a lot of floppy issues with the reissue and encore

So with things get tighter, the connection with scrapper you kind of have to guide it in instead of forcing in. Considering the price I doubt it is kids that are getting this so the collector should know what they doing.

Another thing is I really wish they make a version that did not come with the Chrome. Yes they look nice but the quality is rather random though. My hook's chrome is all scratched up just from the factory assembly
