Is there a common toy scale more pointless than 1/10? Compared to 1/12, which has been around as a miniature scale since before mass-produced toys were even a thing, it's just different enough to not really fit alongside but not different enough to actually justify its own existence like 1/18 or 1/6. Genuinely seems like someone started making figures in that scale just to be different and somehow it stuck around. It's not so bad with toys of characters who are already huge anyway (McFarlane's Space Marines fit better with 1/12 than the humans in the rest of the McFarlane 40K line, who are big even by 1/10 standards) but with "regular" humans it gets kinda annoying. Just seems like a completely redundant scale that exists for the sake of existing.

I get why it's pointless from a collector's perspective, but it's good as its own thing.
If we lived in a better world, 1/10 would be the standard for action figures. But it's not.
1/10 rc cars are nice tho. They fit 1/12 figures easily.

What grinds my gears is that all these chink companies making their Anime women inspired articulated figures marked as "1/12 scale" when if you really measure them closely (head size, scaled up height, length of limbs) it becomes super obvious the figures are actually 1/10 scale. I hate it and no amount of bullshit industry reasons will ever make me change my opinion.

My point is every toy company does 6"/1:12 scale figures but not every company does 1/10 scale which is a very obvious holdover strategy of "bigger is better" to try and get kids begging their parents for toys with middling results.

They're absurdly long and the heads are wide to accommodate the movable eyes gimmick. Even among "larger" 6 inch western figures they are obviously rail thin giants.

I wouldn'tmind some tall amazon ladies but yeah the large heads in proportion to their bodies makes them look like out of scale teenagers.
Anonymous No.11600504
1/10 scale sucks because they tower over 1/12 and are usually not compatible. Just stick to the standard.
But scaling in general sucks as the other anon says, companies do whatever the fuck they want most just take it literally that all figures should be 7" or 6" or whatever since it keeps costs down and you have inconsistencies in sizes, while only a few keep it in scale so characters that are taller/shorter are actually different sizes IN scale.
Only in those situations sometimes a 1/10 figures that is just that size and not "in scale" actually works with 1/12.

NTA but I like 1/12 in a *limited* capacity. I think it excels at relatively high end figures, especially stuff with well done soft goods like coal dog, 3A back when they were doing it, some mezco stuff, etc.

I don't like it as the ubiquitous so called primary scale for all toys, especially all collector focused toys. It's too big for mass armies, can barely do vehicles and playsets and when they do, even if they're cool they're $350-1000 gigafuckhuge things that you either can't afford or can't fit in your house after more than a couple of them.

I like 1/18 and diaclone for world building, and I like 1/6th stuff for actual character showcase showstoppers.
Mass market 1/12 feels like a middle ground where I'm getting none of what I actually want. I don't mind that it exists and I have a few here and there, but it's annoying that it's the most prevalent scale there is, and even more annoying are the drooling retards who collect it that swarm any and every toyline that's *not* 1/12 and say shit like "OH THIS WOULD BE WAY BETTER IN 1/12, WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT THEN"

Thatโ€™s probably the current Chinese obsession with slenderman women, very tall and slim. At least some Snail Shells do pretty much scale with some Figma if youโ€™re just happy having a few tall girls around, head size is comparable to some depending on the character so they still fit in. That said I donโ€™t own too many guys, but theyโ€™d still look good with characters like Yujiro.
