Wear gloves just in case and clean with cotton swab or toothbrush in white vinegar or lemon juice. It's supposed to fizz. Wipe with a paper towel. Baking soda if it's really bad.

clean it up and post it on Craigslist in trade for someone with kids who might have a one time thing you want/need (e.g. say you don't have a Costco card, you'll meet them at the store, with the box so they can check it out and see it's legit, you grab what you want at Costco, pay them when they ring out and both say goodbye in the parking lot).
