>tourists in 2025
>going anywhere that doesn't have 1000 vlogs and travel blogposts describing everything down to the smallest detail
Not happening. Modern day travelers are stupid sheep who get herded from one place to the next by their influencer shepherds. Every now and then a pair sheep go astray for a short time before hurrying back to rejoin the flock.

so true. real travelers™ just pull up to active war zones without any prior preparation, because they are special free thinkers and not like the rest of the sheeple.

As always, when traveling off the beaten path, you go wherever you can go, stay wherever you can stay, and forget about places where you can't go or can't stay.
>walk up to bus station
>you pull out your translator app, walk up to the loitering guys having a chat
>one of them turns to address you, you say hello and show him your screen
>"is there a bus to Mawlamyine?"
>switch languages, hand phone to him
>"many checkpoints, not safe for foreigner"
>"how about Hinthada, is it safe to visit? when does the bus leave?"
>"Hinthada is safe, the bus leaves 9 AM tomorrow"
>"thanks, I go tomorrow"
>pull up Google Maps, see if you can find the bus station in Hinthada
>check out hotels in the vicinity and also in the central part of town
>nothing is bookable, many options are likely missing from the map
>drop a few pins on your offline map anyway (just in case data signal quits working)
>set alarm for 7 AM tomorrow

Inviting strange men into one's home is not the norm in that part of the world. If you want to be served food, go to a restaurant. Low GDP per capita doesn't in any way correlate with lack of morals or standards of behavior. Burmese people are known for being graceful and well-behaved.

Bet you were one of the dumfucks who stay in Candelaria. Safety in numbers is a joke. The more tourists are around, the more likely you will encounter scumbags looking to take advantage of tourists. I visited Bogota in December 2020, saw very few white people, and while the city was quite unpleasant to someone on foot not used to urban blight and Third World traffic, I never felt unsafe or targeted.

Idk. I mean. Power outages. Curfew, even if nobody gives a shit. In youtube comments the myanmar people sound like pussies and whine about their moral viewpoints too much. Plus a lot left, does that mean hot girls left the country? Boys are getting conscripted so that's good to even out the ratio. Idk I bet the food sucks. Just seems a little inconvenient for little reward. Unless they have a real functioning underground red light area. Their clubs are full but clubs are kind of boring. Everything else is kind of shady like bus schedules and money conversions. Are they even that friendly or just weirdos? I mean...

If you're the sort of person that wants to check off the big sights for the 'gram, or won't give a few cents to beggers, then please don't come to Myanmar.

If you have the mind of a poet and can deal with dirt, heat, and poverty, and find beauty in sitting around dilapadated colonial buildings drinking sweet tea and fried snacks, then please come.

If you want to party, there are very few places open after sundown, but 19th street is the go-to place for raucous drinking these days.

I met a guy from Mandalay in a Vientiane hostel. He was proud of his city and said it's a great place to visit.

I'd go to Myanmar in the winter. It's farther north than some of you realize. Foggy cold mornings dipping down to 6 or 7 C, lovely 25 C afternoon sun, no need for A/C but you'll want to warm yourself around a fire in the morning if you didn't pack a Chinese puffy jacket.

Still, Laos makes more sense than Myanmar for a midwinter destination. Lao people are more friendly than the Burmese of Shan state that I encountered in Mae Sai. Laos is also full of brand-new guesthouses that rent for absurdly low nightly rates. Myanmar lodgings are much more scarce, which means higher prices and shitty broken-down furnishings.
