Where should I go next in Asia?

I've already been to Japan, South Korea, and Thailand.

Angkor Wat is appealing to me but flights to Siem Reap are crazy expensive for some reason.

Check the weather. Kathmandu, stay there a few days find a Sherpa guide, fly to Lukla, do the Everest base camp hike. The Himalayas are a treasure

fly to kuala lumpur then on from there
kl is a good choice as a hub for the region
air asia fly from kl to all the interesting places around the area. singapore indonesia flips vietnam cambodia thailand etc etc

This. Air Asia hub there out of the cheapo airport. Also loads of ferries or trains all over the place. KL is also pretty good for a couple of days of eating, wandering, pubs that are all named after and play nothing but Bob Marley, and random markets with fake watches while you weigh up where you want to head to.

Saigon (HMC) is similar if you go through the Viet visa shit which is pretty quick online. Vietjet (complete with its bangin Hello, Vietnam theme song) has similar quick and cheap connections everywhere in the region.

KL is one of the best bases for world travel. You can find dirt cheap fares to any region of the world from KUL (South America excepted). People hate on Malaysia here. Granted, the food gets tiring after a few weeks, but Malaysia as close as you can get to living in a civilized country while paying Third World tier prices for everything.
