worth a weekend if you are already european, but not really
west coast of ireland is pretty scenic, and belfast has some gritty shit to do with the troubles if that is your bag. otherwise ireland can be skipped over. plus the weather is shite

>for tourism
Dublin is perfect for that. If you were actually trying to get a "real" travel experience that's "off the beaten path," then no, Dublin isn't good for that.

It is INSANELY expensive. One of the most expensive places on Earth and it's very mid for what it costs. Surprised the cost hasn't been mentioned.

I'd check out the dingle peninsula or Blasket Island. Eastern ireland isn't that much different from England but I'd never admit it to the Irish.

Yeah Ireland is insanely expensive for what you get, ESPECIALLY in Dublin. There are some nice museums such as the National Museum of Archeology & Museum of Fine Arts but in Ireland in general there's not much to do past 5pm except drink in pubs which costs an arm and a leg these days.

Hijacking OP's thread, as I am actually going to Dublin.

I'm gonna be in Ireland for 4 days. Obviously, this is not nearly enough to experience the country, but it is enough for a small part of it.
Should I just spend all of those days in Dublin, or should I at least try to dedicate a day or two to another part of Ireland?

Just go to Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, perhaps the Aran Islands. Don't forget to rent a car! Allow at least an evening or half a day for Dublin; staying longer is not worth it. However, if you must do it, Bray and Howth are the highlights, as are Poolbeg Lighthouse and perhaps Phoenix Park.

You don’t need more than a day or two in Dublin to be honest.

I did 4 days in Ireland back in 2021. Spent two days in Dublin, took a bus up to Giant's Causeway day 3, and went to Howth by train on day 4. I think something like that is ideal if you're staying in Dublin. The city isn't bad, but it's far from the most exciting place to visit. Two days was really all I needed. I could have maybe stretched it to three, but I'm glad I didn't. The two day trips really made the vacation though. In particular, I loved Howth. Ireland's Eye was awesome, as my wife and I had the entire island to ourselves for two hours (though I imagine this may be different with covid being done with), and the cliff walk was gorgeous. If that doesn't interest you, I'm sure there are other cool places you can get to.

I was shocked by how much more I enjoyed Edinburgh than Dublin.

Galway is much more interesting as a tourist. It's smaller but you won't run out of things to see and do in a few days there. You can take a ferry to the Aran Islands directly from town nowadays and there are coach tours to Connemara or the Cliffs of Moher/the Burren daily. The city itself is a lot more lively as well.

Boring overpriced tourist trap pubs. Shitty clubs. Even shittier people (I genuinely despise most Irish, despite having two parents born and bred in Ireland and having three siblings who are the same). They’re just massive cunts and worse than the Brits.

Ireland has a beautiful countryside if you’re into that. It’s a very lush and green country and can be very quaint if you’re in the right spots. I’m not a countryside person but I can at least appreciate that aspect of Ireland.

It's worth a few days and nights if you like to drink. Beyond that, it's a good entry point to the rest of Ireland and the EU. The city itself isn't really amazing.
