Our friends did it and one of them caught some weird stomach bug and almost died. She had to be hauled back in cart behind a donkey. It was 50/50 she would live or die by the time they got to the hospital. Luckily the antibiotic cleared her up.

There are Nazi enclaves in Peru which to me was the most interesting. I was trying to shag Nazi bitches but alas I caught a weird guy bacteria and got extremely sick. Don't eat the food from the street vendors.

Big nope. Way, way too expensive for what you get. The Sacred Valley is awesome though

agreed. macchu picchu was a little bit of a meme but very pretty regardless. I was more impressed by the sacred valley and cusco. reminded me a lot of yosemite valley.

It was alright but is certainly overrated. The view from the plateau is amazing, but when you are walking through Machu Picchu it looks like a generic and badly built Minecraft village. Also, getting there was a pain in the ass. You first have to go to fucking Cuzco, which is a great place but also a giant tourist trap. Then take the incredibly expensive train to Agua Calientes. From there you have to take the shittiest bus on earth or hike. Better go to Trujillo and from there visit the ruins of Chan Chan and the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna which will blow your mind and make you feel like fucking Indiana Jones.

I thought it was pretty amazing. Absolute pain in the ass, but there was no way in hell I was going to go to Peru without going there.

If I go back to Peru, I'd do a northern circuit, maybe go to Iquitos as well. Mercator projection makes Peru look a lot smaller than it really is.

Based. Iquitos is pure kino. The jungle boat tours are an unforgettable adventure. Bring enough food and water. Buying on the tour is generally incredibly expensive, sometimes it takes a long time until you get to the next village.

One problem I have is that I take escitaloprรกm, and if I try do ayahuasca, that could potentially kill me. I gotta get off that eventually.

a victim of its own success, it has become a theme park for people who want an outdoorsy profile picture. however if you go to peru and don't visit it then you are lame

Honestly yes I had a lot of fun doing the Salkantay Trek.
>>2791932
The actual Machu Picchu is a museum and is fairly crowded, but I wouldn't call it a victim of success, its a historic site that shouldn't be exclusive.

The Salkantay Trek however is not a theme park in any way, as long as you aren't with a group you'll be pretty much alone on the hike besides the indigenous who live there.

Salkantay trek was free (I think the locals extort a few bucks from you these days to walk through their village). $5 to get to the trailhead from Cuzsco and I think $8 to get back from Aguas Calientes

I think you both are right. It's not yet a victim of its own success, but it is the closest thing to Disneyland you could get in Peru. And the local people want it to stay that way. But every country has a place like that. Eiffel Tower is like that, you may feel it's a scam at times but definitely a must see.

Its better to do it alone but you most likely didn't get scammed

The tickets usually includes things like the train ride back which makes up much of the cost.

Enjoy the hike, it's a nice one.
Bring a rain cover, just in case.
Go dance at the Ukukus in Cuzco.
If you speak some spanish go buy food at the Wanchaq market.
Put sunscreen even if the sun is slightly veiled by clouds.
Haggle with taxi driver, they will always charge you more than the local price.
T. lived there for years

I felt that it lived up to the hype & then some. The other ruins around Pisac, Ollantayambo, Sachsaywaman etc are cool and all but MP is on another level
