Kansas has numerous state lakes (picrel) with free camping available to the traveling public; to the best of my knowledge, no other state in America has such a generous arrangement for travelers. The US highways in Kansas are in great condition, and while outsiders stereotype Kansas as a flat state, it's actually quite hilly, with plenty of trees in the dales. I drove through Independence KS last year and the downtown bars were advertising happy hour specials, 99 cent wings and $2.50 drafts like it was still 2015. Overall, Kansas is a pleasant state that doesn't pretend to be anything special.

Are the free campsites crowded in the summer?

I am a bit shocked by that list. Was planning to do a tour through the Southern States in the near future. Had all these romantic images in my head. Of creolic food, soulful towns with wooden porches, wild nature, Mississippi shuffle boats, blues bands playing etc.

There are no national parks in Alabama. State parks are fine but nothing you can’t get elsewhere.
You can skip the Clinton library.
You can skip the Biden library and just go directly to Philly.
If Indiana was in Chicago nothing in Indiana would make a top 50 things to do list.
Is there anything special about the Iowa state fair?
I’ve been to Elvis’s birthplace. You can skip it.
I don’t know about the bombing memorial.

You don’t need Alabama, Mississippi or Arkansas to get all that, although you can find some of it there too.

I'd switch Arkansas with North Dakota. Arkansas has pretty scenic parts like the Ozarks and the Ouachitas. They have a small national park called Hot Springs. North Dakota has like 1 barely visited national park but that's it.

Seconding Delaware. New Castle is nice but Maryland has far more pretty mid-Atlantic colonial towns than Delaware

I scoured 4chan, reddit and the rest of the internet for things to do in Kansas and everyone told me there were none. I ended up just going to a Jayhawks basketball game, which was boring. Had some very good barbeque in KC though which was on the Kansas side I think, I can't remember. Also the They Also Ran Museum intrigues me but I wasn't going to drive to Norton.
