If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that if you want anything: you have to travel for it.
I have only been out of the country once though as a child. i'm going to barcelona at the end of the month, hablo un poco espanol and i have enough money for the tickets and hotel but not much else. any tips for a first time flyer/traveler?

You're going to the pickpocket capital of Earth, prepare accordingly.
Try to plan some things but don't stress too much or be too rigid with plans. Some of the hyped up stuff will be shit.
Walk more, it's a lot easier to find little gems.

Always check your surroundings when pulling out your phone. Don't ever fucking do it while standing next to the street.
Don't wear jewelry. If you do, you'll lose your gold chain the first day, guaranteed. Pay special attention on public transport or an hour after getting off you'll realize your backpack has been open for some time now and half your stuff is missing.
Other than that, enjoy your stay, exercise some caution, don't trust anyone with a visibly non-catalan/spanish accent. Of course, I don't mean other tourists.

never again, went to barcelona once when i did a month long post graduation trip to spain, pickpockets, tourist scams, overpriced foods, unfriendly locals, apparently it's even more hostile towards tourists now, catalonians have a massive chip on their shoulder

skip barca and stick to madrid, valencia, sevilla, ibiza

meeting other travelers is at least 33% of the experience. When i am in america i cannot have an adult geopolitical discussions with ANYBODY but when I travel people start them with me. It seems like most people who travel have a basic level of geopolitical awareness.
