Being forced to travel to this shit hole, is there anything remotely fun to do here that isnโ€™t drinking or clubbing? Any arcades or stuff like that??

You're in luck, ahmed! Dubai is a muslim country and it is frowned upon to drink forbidden juices and be promiscuous. That kind of stuff only happens in private parties.

I have 18 hours' layover in Sharjah coming up. Booked a room within walking distance of the airport terminal, because my flight to Warsaw leaves at 7:35 and the city buses don't start running until 6. Options are very limited. Taking the city bus to downtown looks doable. Of course it involves being out and about on foot in the 42 C afternoon heat.

Dune bashing
ATV riding
Jet skiing

Pretty sure there's a few other desert sport activities.

For tourism just go to the historical village - unironically loved it over the tourist trap shit in downtown.

This isn't fucking saudi arabia, you retard. There are dozens/hundreds of clubs in dubai where you can stroll in, buy a rum and coke, and start chatting to a table full of exotic students looking for a tutor

OP, you're actually fucking autistic. It's a family vacation just fucking spend time with your family if you have no interest in the country.

With that being said, I'll tell you something: if you're interested in the "ethnic" side of things, just cross into Sharjah. This is where most of the "middle class" of the "guest workers" live. You might get disappointed to know that most are South Asians (Indians and such), but there will be some Arabs there, including some Gulf Arabs. A lot of residential and commercial pockets of Sharjah are walkable and have an "ethnic" vibe to it. You may enjoy that. A lot of the Sharjah economy, based on what I observed, is based on supporting Dubai's constant construction. You'll definitely see what I am talking about if you go there. This is why I like to call the Indians there carpetbaggers they got that same energy. Cont under

There is also a good amount of ancient forts in the country. They are made of mud and look very fantasy-like at least they did for me kind of like the kingdom in the sand sort of thing. The UAE many many years ago, used to be Red Sea pirate territory. That history is hidden, but be free to look into it.There are also a lot of abandoned sand towns, that look straight out of the pre-medieval time. They all got abandoned only in the last 50โ€“80 years or so due to the very fast urbanization. It's a niche if you're into it, and there is one restored one. It's very cool if you're into that sort of thing.Yes, arcades and game stores exist, but champ this isn't Japan and those arcades are 110% geared towards locals and/or carpetbaggers.A lot of the tourism that exists in the UAE, I feel, is geared towards the upper middle class and above of non-GCC Arabs and maybe a few other groups who don't have certain things or experiences in their country of origin. A lot of said experiences are usually available to the average middle class in the West. This is why I always felt like the UAE was a bad tourist destination for Westroids except the ones who are REALLY into/have bling bling and clout.Let me give you a quick geopolitical lesson real quick, just so you don't get confused. The UAE is the country's name it stands for the United Arab Emirates and is composed of multiple Emirates (just imagine them as states). Dubai is only one state, and it's the one that does all the bling bling stuff. The other states can actually be very lowkey and/or ethnic. This is why I recommended Sharjah for you. It's very close to Dubai kind of serves as a suburb to Dubai in some sense, and is pretty local and ethnic in comparison.Believe me when I tell you though, anything you do in your country for casual fun you can do there, as long as it doesn't involve drugs or something perverted like creepshotting or something. Have fun OP and make the best out of it it won't be hard I promise.

UAE is on the Persian Gulf, not the Red Sea.
The brokefag parts of Sharjah look downright Third World, even though the city touts its Arab luxury. For a while, YouTube kept feeding me Visit Dubai ads geared toward young Chinese tourists, making out like Dubai is a fun-packed destination full of thrills. Definitely geared toward the high-spending rich kid market. As a nature lover and a budget traveler, the UAE just doesn't have much appeal for me. Freakin Dallas Texas is a more appealing destination. Originally I booked a two-hour layover, but they changed it to an 18 hour layover. Oh well.

First of all, yeah you're right it's the Persian Gulf. I had a brain fart as I wrote this, mixed them up in my head.

>The brokefag parts of Sharjah look downright Third World, even though the city touts its Arab luxury.
It doesn't. Sharjah is in a different Emirate and a different city and doesn't tout any luxury. When is the last time you've seen a "Come to Sharjah" ad? It's very low-key in terms of flexing its "attraction," and it's 110% geared towards the carpetbaggers and not-so-rich locals who work in Dubai. Plus, the brokefag spots look Third World in almost any part of the world go to Oakland and tell me that place is First World, lol. Sharjah looks A LOT better in the middle class and central spots.

My entire post was just trying to tell OP to work with what he's got in case he is not into the "luxuries" of Dubai (most of which are considered normal, everyday things in the US). Dubai is definitely organically geared towards rich kids of XY middle- to low-income countries, and I disagree with them gearing their marketing towards westroids.

I agree with you that the UAE isn't appealing for anyone who isn't a Bling Bling Instagram NPC. I am in the same boat as you personally, But if you're not an NPC and you found yourself there and you want something less soulless, Sharjah is the way.

Sometimes OP just embrace the soulless. Your soul needs rest sometimes, most people don't know that. Your soul doesn't need constant engagement that is for Mother Teresa and honestly, it ruined her life. Look for a woman, go to the beach, find a waterpark, explore the sites, stop worrying if what you are doing has Maximvm Authentico Sovl and try to have the time of your life. For the love of God get some decent clothing and fresh haircut before going and look happy and happy people might gravitate to you, also just be American and DGAF and be nice to people who question you and just be open to new experiences, ask your grandma to do everything you can.

Dubai is like Las Vegas its what you make of it.

It's just a fancy term for mall or plaza. The definition is a passageway or shops that are covered by an arch.
