I'm staying in Jakarta for 1 or 2 months. What do I think about it?

i went there for a week during easter. there's nothing to do there. it's not a tourist city. i spent all day indoors and went bar hopping around the 5* hotels at night (yes, the whore bars)

Jakarta is pretty boring
unless you really, really enjoy malls

visit some cool museum, old Batavia, the national monument, maybe china town
but that's about it

there are like a dozen cities in the whole world where it's actually fun to stay more than a week (think NYC, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Seoul etc.) - and Jakarta is not one of those

you want to visit other Islands in Indonesia
or at least get out of the city

It sucks. The entire city is literally a giant slum, and not in a cool cyberpunk way just in a depressing dirty open-air sewage sort of way, surrounding a central area full of nothing but boring high end shopping malls and hotels. It is not at all like Bangkok or even Saigon, more like a Southeast Asian version of Karachi Pakistan.

central jakarta was pretty boring even though its the cbd etc. The clubs in general seemed to suck and were overpriced. The only fun place I really visited and had decent priced alcohol was in North Jakarta at chinkland where they had something like 7 beers for $10

I did urban planning work there for two weeks and that was more than enough time. It's not the worst city I've been to but like everyone else has said it's fucking boring and its not a drinking culture. The people are very hospitable though so I'll give em that

To be fair the financial district is very clean and dystopian. Nothing to do there since its very corporate but its based off of California cities like Jakarta's rich suburbs. The rest of the city sucks ass though especially towards Tangerang

I went to Central and got the fuck out of there quicker than i came in. It's full of flabby bellied brown aunties from the train track slums who have been cast out of their society. The place exists to serve the hoardes of chink tourists and businessmen. I reckon if i brought back any of those Central slam pigs my hotel staff wouldnt let them in. I didnt dare to venture out in to north jakarta.

Yeah like the bars at certain 5 star hotels and SCBD is where it's at. But it's expensive. Drinks are equivalent to $20 AUD youre paying about $200 - $300 for the entertainment. But the girls are hot and it's a fun night if youre not poor. I'd definitely go back again, even though Jakarta itself is a proper shithole.
