Went to Paris without booking hotel reservation. was going find a hotel at the end of the night. boy did i find out how ignorant i was. It was 2am after bar closed and absolutely no hotels had any vacancy. i decided to walk around all night until i found somewhere i could maybe take a nap.
after hours of walking (now after 4am), i walk across a lit window and a notice people inside. a woman comes outside and tells me to come in have a drink.
i walk inside take a seat and order a beer without paying much attention, mind you i'm sleep deprived, physically exhausted from non stop backpacking, and still buzzed at this point. after a minute she's touching me, and i look around and i realize i'm surrounded by prostitutes!
i have never paid for sex- but it definitely was not what i had in my head as a brothel. there were girls of different ethnicities. they all looked miserable. it was definitely controlled by some organized crime. i can only assume they were being trafficked.
i had 0 interest in that, and immediately i slammed my beer and asked to pay. he told me that by ordering a drink i had basically reserved time already and owed them 50 euros. I would have dashed but the bartended was a big albandian mf and he also had my phone behind the bar because i retardedly asked him to charge it...
finally i pay with my card and rush out. i was so shaken up by the situation because i was so green to human trafficking at that point. we all know intellectually that it exists - sure - but to walk right into the midst of it was alarming to me.
anyway i got out after getting fleeced for 50 euro then walked another hours frantically. i remember just walking uphill for ages and thinking "i'll just rest once i get to the top of this hill". the top of the hill was the sacre coeur. i looked over paris at one of the most tourist destinations without a soul in sight. it was very memorable.
