I'm weighing the pros and cons vs. just continuing to live at my parents' house. I'm also trying to decide where I should go, if I should.

I was thinking:
>A few months in Japan (Tokyo)
>A few months in Korea (Seoul)
>A few months in Taiwan?
>a week trip or so using pto, maybe in China
Outside of that, I'm not sure. Maybe some time in Bali just to sit by the beach. I could do Mexico or South America, or somewhere in Europe, but I dunno.

Here are my issues:
>Money
I will probably spend $3k a month minimum, versus like $1k in my parents' basement. That's a difference of $24k over a year. Not including flights, or a new laptop, or whatever it is that I'll need to do this. Is that really worth it? On the other hand, it's hard to get an experience like this.
>Time
Of course, I will have to work the entire time, and it will be in EST or roughly around those hours. That means my whole schedule will be off compared to local time. And of course I will be working, so I'm not sure how enjoyable it will actually be.
>Work
This is one of those "ask for forgiveness, not permission" type deals. I will have to put in some work to keep things discreet. That means a server running at home to VPN into, a neutral background for meetings, etc. I probably wouldn't get fired but there's definitely a risk.

If anons have done something similar, I'd appreciate some advice. Was it worth it? Is 1 year too long? Should I pick fewer destinations?

If you're a low value male (incel), just come out and say it

I got tired after 6 months of traveling. I don't see any reason why you should plan so much ahead. Go somewhere for a month or two and see where you want to continue. It might be slightly cheaper to travel from Korea to Japan but plane tickets back home for a few months are definitely worth it especially if you can save money by not being on road the whole year. If you live in a place with seasons, consider which time of the year you prefer to stay there or if you want to go back home for some holiday.

I don't have experience of those places but planning to also explore them during the next two years. Europe is nice off season when hotel/airbnb prices are pretty low so with $3K budget you should be able to find decent place to stay and eat well.

>I don't see any reason why you should plan so much ahead
That's true. I guess I can just try it out and see how it goes.
>consider which time of the year you prefer to stay there
I live in the Midwest so winter is shit. If I could travel then it'd be a plus, but I'm not too picky about when really. Although I don't want to go somewhere unbearably hot and humid in the summer. Being able to ski or surf would be cool maybe, but that's another expense.

So I guess Jan-June would be the best time for me, as well as Sept-Nov.
Maybe I'll try out a 1-2 month trip in the fall, then go home for a few months, then do it again in the winter/spring. I'm not sure where would be best, though. I've never solo travelled before either.

Assuming there isnt a risk of you losing your job, yes. You can always make more money in the future, you cant make more time and you might not have this opportunity in a few years time; so take advantage of it while you can.

Money is like the most relative thing in the world. Is this a fortune to you? Or just a significant expense?

Otherwise, I'd pull the trigger and do it.
I keep considering doing a poor version of what you're doing and just traveling around camping and working out of my SUV during the day.
I've burned enough WFH days at my house where I get nothing done, then catch up on work in the middle of the night, it feels like I might as well be taking advantage of the situation instead of damaging my sleep schedule.

People who bitch about night work amuse me.
There's far more to do in the day than at night

>Was it worth it?
100%
did DN for a full year and now ~3-6months / year

>Is 1 year too long?
I think yes
you lose a lot of connections at home (if you have any) if you stay away for too long

>I will probably spend $3k a month minimum
with flights and travel stuff included, I average something like ~4-5k€/month
$3k seems more on the lower side, but definitely doable if you avoid expensive cities / countries

>versus like $1k in my parents' basement.
>That's a difference of $24k over a year
and what would you spend this money on otherwise?
as long as you still save some money and don't go into debt it's fine

once I gave up on ever owning a house, it lives quite easily
I just thrown 1500€/month into an ETF for retirement and spend the rest on traveling

>means my whole schedule will be off compared to local time
if you don't travel with other people that's not a big problem
your main travel time is during weekend anyways

>This is one of those "ask for forgiveness, not permission" type deals
frame it as workation and just don't tell how long you're away
oc depends on your local laws, but they're allowed in most EU countries
the home VPN is still necessary though

Im in the same boat, I have a job where I make about 7500-8000 CAD after tax monthly and my boss doesnt care where I work...ill just get a vpn router to be safe but Im planning on working from spain or something like that in September to December
I also have to work EST and so I factored in not wanting to be outside of the usual rhythm of the locals and I know spanish people have their biggest meal at 2pm and go out for dinner after 9pm so I figure if I work 9-5pm EST that will be 3-11pm spanish time which actually kind of works out or I do 2-10pm spanish time which is 8-4pm EST
Just not sure which country to go to,....I have an EU passport but im open to anywhere in the world where the time zone is manageable and I can save some money
any suggestions where to go??
