How do i reconcile my interest in travel with my desire for contemplative life? Throughout the years i collected so many books, got interested in so many reasoning systems, that now i can spend years just not leaving my house and reading my wishlist. At my best moments, when not straying away from the way i got lot of subtle pleasure from quiet contemplation of world and God through the dialogue with all these great thinkers, it also increases enjoyment of travel enormously if i have sufficient historical or relligious context to know exactly what i am looking at and why i am looking at it. On the other hands its hard to move books across the countries too often (i have kindle but reading from it has its own issues). I imagine after years that subtle enjoyment may get turned into bitterness about coping and wasting my life if i get too complacement, too comfortable. I dream about fulfilling spiritual and intellectual journeys - where can i find it?
Any monasteries, temples, retreats where you yourself have found the peace you looked for?
I am 30 that year and my desire for hedonistic desire is slowly waning away but there are some crumbs left in me. In following travel destinations i have to reconcile it with deeper, spiritual desires ("there has to be more to life")

>there has to be more to life
enjoy the small details of life, how are the local fauna, building materials, common groceries differing?
i duno im pretty content with quiet travel and not hedonistic trips but don't have this "there has to be more" sense. i dont consciously look at those small details but just enjoy "being" in different destinations that i was drawn to.

How do I into this? Is it just studying the history and culture of a place before visiting? Or is it applying some thinkers' ideas as you travel or maybe traveling for some kind of deeper self-improvement reason such as experiencing beauty?

I'm a board tourist, literally, who hasn't traveled that much as an adult but will this year. Due to mental illness and just losing the habit of paying attention to my surroundings like a lot of modern people, I'm very in my head. I'm trying to figure out how to appreciate being in other places.

What do you think? Honestly. Just go on Wikipedia and read every blue link you don't know about.
