I took three weeks in December off at the beginning of this year when I was single planning to go backpacking through South America. However I now have a girlfriend and don't wanna be away from her for that long.

She is able to take one of those three weeks off, and we'd like to go to the Caribbean. She wants to rot on a beach, but I'd like to have at least some sort of history, culture, food etc. What's the best place we could go?

Preferably not insanely expensive. ChatGPT suggests Puerto Rico (I've already been there), Dominican Republic, or Cartagena, but open to suggestions.

So a staycation to marry poppins historical site or something you domesticated little bitch lmao

Traveling is for the young reckless courage of virile single men, not little factor lambs who can’t be away from their girlfriend for a few days.

What a fucking joke. Pack this thread up and take a fucking hike

I didn’t like cartagena. The beaches are trash and theres a ton of black colombians. I also got sick from drinking a margarita at the beach. My dumbass girlfriend at the time got us stranded in isla bomba because they don’t have any canoe boats back after sun down.

You should go to playa de carmen or tulum mexico. an isolated resort where you can fuck and go explore a bit and go back to your resort. Cancun is cool but saturated with tourists now, its basically america.

>She is able to take one of those three weeks off,
so ideally you want to spend the first or last week together so you can arrive or depart together

>and we'd like to go to the Caribbean
>She wants to rot on a beach
>but I'd like to have at least some sort of history, culture, food etc.
>What's the best place we could go?
Cuba or Jamaica.

but honestly that's a though requirement
especially with
>Preferably not insanely expensive
as this basically excludes a second flight to change locations

and it's gonna be hard to fill 3 weeks with history & culture on any caribbean island except Cuba (unless you can sperg out on specific locations)

look into Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador or Northern Africa (if you can live with colder water)
much more to do

Cancun has been mexican disney land for fucking decades and decades man. Tulum is also completely overdeveloped and lost all its charm and appeal as the getaway-within-a-getaway. PDC, I don't hate it but I think it's fairly trashy especially post-covid. Unless you're going for the dental clinics/medical clinics for discount surgery/teeth that are all holed up there I don't know why you'd do PDC honestly.

Dominican Republic is the way to go for you:

>History
First european settlement and city in the Americas.

>Culture
If by culture you mean music and other artistic expresions then there is lots of that merengue and bachata mainly, just avoid teteos and dembow partys.

>food
Our gastronomy is pretty similar to PR but better:
-Mangu con los 3 golpes
-Mofongo
-Sancocho
-Rice, beans, meat and salad
-Morir soñando
-Sweet beans
-Fried Fish with plantain or sweet potatoes
-Etc

To all that you gotta add that since this is an small island nation you can travel to a lot of different spots in a short amount of time, which wouldn't be the case in countries like Colombia or Mexico, you have to travel for days or use a Plane to get to another place in short time.

But being really honest if i were to travel for vacation i would just relax and stay at the same spot, moving around different spots just to have a glance of them is a hassle for me.

We wouldn't be looking to spend the whole three weeks there, just a week or so. Jamaica looks promising, Cuba maybe a bit trickier logistically. I wouldn't mind doing a connecting flight if there were somewhere really cool to go that wasn't too resorty.

My barber suggested this too, kinda like this idea as an in between. The food sounds great too. Thanks anon.

You could get your history and culture with a couple of nights in Cartagena then bus it over to the Tayrona area to beach it. From there she can fly back home while you continue on in Colombia for two more weeks. Or do it backwards and you spend two weeks traveling in Colombia and meet her in Cartagena.

>I wouldn't mind doing a connecting flight
the only reason I mentioned it was because connecting flight typically don't fit a low budget
between islands you're looking at $200-350 p.P.

>Jamaica looks promising,
if you like music stay in Montego Bay and Negril
the food is also nice

but again not really that much culturally and historical to do, it doesn't compare to say central Europe or Japan / SK / China in any way
I'd do ~1,5weeks there then fly to next island (where ever you find a nice resort your gf enjoys)
explore a few days on your own, before your gf arrives

also if your gf (and you) like hiking
on most Caribbean island there are some (short, like 1-2h) hikes to really beautiful secluded beaches / waterfalls
which could be somewhat a compromise between doing "something" and rotting away on the beach

>Cuba maybe a bit trickier logistically.
which is a shame
because that's exactly the destination fitting your requirements

easily enough for 2 weeks traveling around, seeing Cuban history and culture stuff
and plenty of really nice resorts and beaches, even within / near cities so you can do something outside the resort
