I'm looking for a city that feels like something you'd see in Ghost in the Shell or similar. Some place that feels grungy ('city that never sleeps' nightlife, underground clubs/bars where you stumble across shady business dealings, etc.) while being futuristic (megacity sprawl, cutting edge transport, autonomous drone use, etc).

Cities in the Far East come to mind first when considering the tech and futuristic feel. Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and the like, but they also seem like they would lack the grime element, too clean. On the other hand you have cities in the Americas that seem like they would have the grime element, Buenos Aires, Rio, but they lack the tech element. What does /trv/ think? Any first hand experiences would be much appreciated.

Once I learn more about electronics and get around to studying a bit of Mandarin it would be fun to go to Shenzhen just to tinker with bullshit projects in RadioShack the Megacity.

>rent a gf
>in China
well, prostitution for one is illegal and they occasionally enforce it

you can search for massage parlors or foot bath or spas in some back alleys
and you may be able to negotiate some escort service
but it's gonna be hard without any Mandarin

plenty of escort platforms as well
but will be expensive and they often get shut down

also some bars are known to pick up girls for pay
don't know any in Chongqing or Shenzhen though

if you really only want to rent companionship
that's easy
apps like hire me plz (ๆฅ็งŸๆˆ‘ๅง) make that very very easy
just keep in mind, even younger Chinese women don't speak English very well or at all
and the ones that do, won't have to resort to being a rental gf for pennies

>Rio, but they lack the tech element
This isn't true, it's common to have to register with a facial recognition system to access many buildings in Brazil, especially downtown corporate office buildings that also have brothels inside

Rio always struck me as your typical tropical, party, beach city. Does it really have a strong tech scene that I don't know about? Zipping through narrow streets buzzed off of wine on a scooter with an olive skinned qt gripping me tight while she's high off of ket and looking at all the lights seems like fun though.

Moscow but those days is definitely not the right moment to go there.

Otherwise I've never set foot in the Philippines but what about Manilla?

Philippines is a genuine shithole with shitty scammy low IQ people. Only go there if you're a sex tourist unironically or into beaches/snorkelling/scuba.

I don't think youve ever been there. The city didn't strike me as cyberpunk AT ALL. It's a very clean, liveable city. Felt like Vancouver in the 90s but with a European vibe and more buildings and Vancouver was never cyberpunk to me.

Not that cyberpunk cities can't be clean and liveable. I find most Chinese cities to now be clean and liveable too.

You'll get that in HK if you stay in TST or Jordan. Less so on the Island

HK (read: Kowloon) has the 'gritty' aspect to cyberpunk that you're probably looking for (moreso than a lot of Tokyo in my experience). China has the flashing lights and automation but because a lot of that stuff is new it's a bit sterile

The city chiefs cleared out most of the illegal street sellers and cocktail carts that once lined Sukhumvit. Stole much of its more unique character.

Used to be more hookers congregating out there too.

>Zhora: A replicant working as an exotic dancer. While not explicitly called a prostitute, her role is clearly sexualised, and she works at a club performing for men.

>Street scenes: The original film features street-level vice and sleaze, with suggestive advertisements, neon-lit peep shows, and background characters who strongly imply the presence of sex work.

>Pris: Referred to as a โ€œbasic pleasure modelโ€โ€”her function as a replicant was designed around sexual companionship. Her interactions and clothing reflect this role.
