Does anyone here travel to Appalachia? I only travel to Appalachia. I like it there. Plus it doesn't require flying.
I'm trying to plan a summer trip - but its too hot for lower elevation places.

The eastern part of West Virginia has some decent altitude. Plentiful national forest too. People along the Blue Ridge / I-81 corridor aren't friendly, but when you go deeper into the boonies, they get friendlier. Use the visitor map (https://www.fs.usda.gov/ivm/) to find out where the actual forest plots are, because in some parts of Appalachia they are all inaccessible steep mountainsides.

The White Mountains and Vermont, yeah. Lived in VT so I have some friends there. Currently live on the coast of NH, so if I want to do a big hike I drive a couple hours north to the mountains.
A trip to Appalachia for me is a tank of gas, maybe $150 for a cheap motel room and dinner. Or free lodging if I just camp.
It's comfy.
If I ever "make it", my plan is to just get a small place up around the White Mountains

Appalachia is a very large area, so yeah most people probably have if they live on the east coast

It saddened me to see. All that beautiful hill country, and the only thing lazy braphogs want to do is tear it up with their off-road vehicles.

They'll drive through it, but very few coasties see Appalachia as a tourist destination. The locals got upset when New River National Gorge was designated a national park, because OMG it might mean tourist industry, i.e. we have to quit collecting gibs and work to provide services to visitors!

Those are barely secret spots. I assume they are fishing/swimming holes based on the river-adjacent locations?
>>Pine Mountain State Resort in Pineville, KY
I never went to the resort but I did the overlook that's there - very nice.
>>Stonewall in Roanoke, WV
I uh don't think that's a real place
you mean roanoke virginia or the stonewall jackson resort?

have gone to a few weddings and friends parties there, I always rent a convertible and drive slow through the hills with the top down and some dylan or guthrie going
