>Which ones were the best?
Objectively Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii
because there is the most to do by far plus flights are frequent and affordable

I've been to / in Micronesia, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Kiribati and Tuvalu regarding smaller Islands
they're all fine
some are better for diving than others
if you go sailing it's pretty awesome as well (in the right seasons)
but differences mostly comes down to touristic Infrastructure

Papua New Guinea is on my Travel list
probably 2027, haven't booked anything

generally as tip
search for a resort / diving spot or similar where you want to go
not chose a country
because some will have barely anything, e.g. Kiribati only has very very few hotels / resorts

It will be expensive because all the air routes are basically monopolies and the airlines will charge whatever you'll pay to fly out there, and don't expect any sales on Air Nauru or the other carriers that fly.

All the countries are different, but usually the only people who open up restaurants and stores are Chinese. Pacific time is a thing, don't expect anything to happen in a hurry. Some places rely on a ship to bring in all supplies for a couple of months, so if you time a trip badly you might have to take what you're given food wise, especially in Kiribati, Nauru and the other atoll nations because they can't grow any of their own food
