Driving from SLC to El Paso over july 4 weekend and I want to take two extra days off so I have 5 days.

I usually would do nature stuff but the cultural heritage stuff seems more interesting.

>Day 1 (july 3) finish work at 3pm and drive to Durango or Pagosa springs Colorado

>Day 2 (july 4) drive to Taos and do full day there
>day 3 (july 5) full day in Taos area
>day 4 (july 6) drive to santa fe... full day in santa fe (visit some spanish sites on the way
>Day 5 (july 7) santa fe full day
>day 6 (july 8) drive to acoma pueblo, tour city in the sky (big bucket list item), drive to ABQ and chillax
>Day 7 (july 8) work from ABQ, get off work at 3pm and drive to el paso

Thoughts?

Main shit I want to see besides wandering the cities:
>Taos Pueblo
>San Francisco de Asís Mission Church
>Las Trampas: San José de Gracia Church
>El Santuario de Chimayó
>San Miguel Chapel (oldest USA church :D)
>at least 1 art museum
>If I need some more stuff to fill time Bandelier National Monument
>Acoma village is my main must see

>inb4 why are you skipping so much
I've already done all the stuff in Utah and that part of Colorado but I've never really explored NM. Also further south NM stuff will be close to me in El Paso where I'll be living for a while

>full day in Santa Fe
you don't need a full day for Santa Fe unless you're going to a party later or there for snow season. Every "ye olde Mexican place" is doable in an afternoon and some change for anything left there. t. spent an entire day there and was done shortly after lunch.

>ABQ
>Chillax
OH LOL. Boy you are in for a suprise, ABQ is a shithole for 'chilling' if you're an outsider. It's a "big" small city where everyone acts like they live in a small town closely knit together. As someone who drove across the country for work and then drove the lower 48's, New Mexico is pretty forgettable. Go see your nature stops in Santa fe, B line it Rosewell, then B line it for El Paso.

I mean go for what you want it's not a terrible list, just take your expectations and lower them significantly for anything in NM.

Would 3 days in Taos be too much? I figure If I'm bored the 2nd day I could go to Pecos or Bandelier or just go tto a hot spring or something or go hang out in a pueblo

>ABQ Chillax
Kek I know ABQ is a shithole but I'd only spend an evening there and working in a coffee shop/hotel in the morning. So as far as doing shit I feel like I can fill an evening

I mean if nature is your thing, north NM will be fine for 3 days since July 4th weekend is just going to suck with boomers all over.

I usually lean more towards camping when I do road trips. But I do have a fascination with the spanish and pueblo history. I've been reading a lot about Hispanos and Pueblo revolt etc recently

You won’t regret Chimayo. It is so tranquil. Also check out the Girard Wing at the International Folk Art Museum and get a hot chocolate flight at Kakawa with chocolate dipped Chile de Arbol

Yes it’s gorgeous. Good ski area and hiking in summer. Not too far from hot springs either

One day in Santa Fe to see the museums and stuff
One day in Taos to see the Earthships
One day in Albuquerque to check if the towels are oh so fluffy
One day in Carlsbad to see the cavern
The interesting stuff is spread out and the cities are not big enough to spend more than a day there. I should know, I lived in this state for 6 years.
