I'm going overseas with a friend for vacation this summer and we're planning for where we're going to stay right now. We came to a disagreement when he found a B&B near where we wanted to stay that was pretty cheap and well-reviewed. Not an Airbnb where you have like the whole place to yourself (I don't want to do that either but for other reasons) but like a proper traditional B&B.
I don't want to stay in a B&B, My understanding is that it's essentially a large house that you're renting a bedroom in for a few days, and the rest of the living space (kitchen, dining room, maybe the bathroom etc.) is shared between all the guests. I don't really like the idea of sharing my living space with a grab bag of strangers for four days.
Admittedly, I've never stayed in a B&B so I can't be sure. Is my understanding correct? What have your guys' experiences been like?

It depends on where you are going to but here in west Europe, it does depend fully on what type of B&B it is
You get your own bedroom
You get your own toilet unless it's some shithole (kek)
Usually your own walk in showered in the toilet area but rarely sometimes, if it's cheap, it's shared which is weird

But also generally speaking the kitchen/dining room is not for guests outside of breakfast time
You can ask for permission to use the toaster or something but traditionally you are paying solely for the bed (room), toilet/shower (if lucky) and breakfast (pre-made nowhere near level of hotel)

Just go with the fucking hotel or tell your sperg faggot to retn the B&B himself and you get the hotel

Hotels are safer since they have actual proper standards to adhere too if it's a good five star

If you are not going with a proper five star then just go with a B&B since anything less than a proper five star (as in proper five star, not just 'reee we have five stars but we're shit and really a one star) isn't worth it

>B&B
can range from actual, traditional B&B
where there are like 3 rooms rented out and you have a big table where you eat breakfast all together

all the way to

a Hotel but property looks like it could've been a B&B a few decades ago
mostly just a boutique hotels

>maybe the bathroom etc.) is shared between all the guests
never had this
unless talking about AirBnB, but never in a classic B&B

>What have your guys' experiences been like?
generally I like B&Bs if I'm doing a more social vacation
the other guests and hosts are usually way more personal than it would be in a Hotel

but again, wide range
stayed in ones where it was just 2 guest rooms and a grandma who made super delicious breakfast + pies and basically planned the whole stay for us as she knew about all cool spots around
but also B&Bs which were basically just family / locally owned and operated hotels (i.e. no hotel chain name)
but felt like any other regular rural hotel

>But also generally speaking the kitchen/dining room is not for guests outside of breakfast time
that's true, but also for any Hotel

usually there's some kind of living room for guests and nice outdoor areas

The quality of Airbnb seems very variable. I'm more down with something consistently okay, rather than something that might be atrocious. Or maybe I've just seen too much shit on the internet.
