>>2799554>What exactly happened?Basically I was in Albania, considered going to the Montenegro coastline for a bit, but finally decided to go directly to Belgrade from Podgorica with a night train, so I essentially crossed two borders in one day. It was an old train, the staff was a bit autistic but rather friendly, and I kept drinking beers to try to fall asleep easier.
I arrived in the morning at Beograd Central, was kinda distracted, withdrew some cash, and I think what happened is that they give you the cash first, then the card back, while in most other countries, they give you the card back first, then the cash. But maybe the ATM just didn't give me my card back, I don't know it's a blur really.
Anyway, I went to the city center, bought stuff at a supermarket, and at this point I realized I had no more card.
So I took a bus back to the station (of course, the first bus I took got me to Novi Beograd instead of the train station), the staff there told me to call the bank in charge of the ATM, talk to the cops who weren't there or to fuck off. But at least there were power plugs and free wifi.
The bank confirmed my card was inside, told me they open the ATM two times a week, but wouldn't tell me when for security reasons.
So I called my domestic bank, I cancelled the card, and they told me I could get either emergency cash, or an emergency card. I chose the emergency card. Someone from VISA called me that night to ask a bunch of questions, band it got delivered to my hostel 48h later.
It's a magnetic stripe only debit card, I can't buy stuff on the internet with it or use ATMs. So to get cash I send money to myself with Western Union, and I ask my family to book FlixBus tickets for me.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
