Part-plan-of-Istanbul-showing-the-investigated-route-leading-to-the-Martyrs-Bridge
Hey guys,

Karl Bushby has crossed into europe on foot in Istambul. I thought the bridges on the Bosphorus are closed to peons...
Did he get VIP treatment or is it possible?

As a first time leaving Europe, I would like to walk into asia, and other than crossing a bridge during a marathon, I thought that a foot crossing was offlimits

Do any of you guys have some info on the matter or some workaround? (I guess crossing in Ukraine/Russia gets tricky)

Used to live in Istanbul. Actually did the marathon, ha. Full of Muslim women who bought ''''tickets'''' then proceeded to have picnics on the bridge, which is based. Though I believe you can't actually go Europe to Asia, you'd have to do it the other way round given the marathon route.

Bridge is closed due to suicide fags apparently. No idea about the bridges further up, sorry. Though I've heard it's the same.

Isn't taking a ferry/metro/metrobus still 'walking'? The ferry is an AMAZING experience in Istanbul, and if you're walking around the ferry......

You can't walk on water, so taking a ferry would still enable you to claim "I walked across X". A bus, no. That would be cheating, because you can technically walk alongside any route a bus takes (even if it's illegal).

he applied for the exception and they allow it which is a rare thing. weird thing is back in 70's it was allowed to walk on the bridge then suicides happened. still time to time some people go there with their cars and jump from the bridge tho.

As a back up, consider the Marmaray Tunnel by rail.
That said, nothing wrong with a ferry in my opinion, do it as the ancients did - by boat

Istanbul local here

>I thought that a foot crossing was offlimits
Yes, your only options are Marmaray (the metro that goes underwater), ferry, or Metrobüs (the bus that crosses the bridge).

If you ask me, taking an intercontinental underwater metro is the coolest
