Malaysia's Johor state is multicultural. I did not get woken up by any muezzin while staying there. The Islamist east coast states, however, started singing at 5:30 AM and didn't quit until about 8. By then, the traffic noise had begun.

In which places have you been that you can hear it in your hotel? I have been to several muslim countries and never have heard more than some distant chance. Never been woken up by one.

In Turkey it was two buildings away but I was a couple floors higher than the building inbetween, so it was at my windows level like 40' away. Comically loud.

I got in the habit of wearing noise cancelling headphones and playing white noise when I sleep and now can't stop even when it's perfectly quiet out, lol
