Live in southeastern US. Dad just said he'd take me on a trip anywhere in the continental US for 3 days for my birthday but I have literally no ideas. Only places I've ever had a specific interest in traveling to are historical castles in Europe or that one thermal bath in Hungary. Can anyone recommend something? These are the only criteria that come to mind at the moment
>super paranoid about crime so don't want to go somewhere we might get shot
>not super rich so can't go somewhere like a swanky ski resort in Colorado
>don't want to go through Vegas because that would encourage dad's slight gambling addiction
>don't want places that would involve activities that'd put physical pressure on dad like a strenuous hike in the mountains
>do generally like any scenic outdoor locations
>have already been to Yosemite and NYC in my childhood

Sounds like you’ll want to go west. All the best scenery is west of Kansas.

I was going to recommend Yosemite since you can drive around it and don’t need to hike too much, but you’ve been there. You could do a good 3 day trip to Moab, Utah. That’s where Canyonlands and Arches is. 3 hours or so from Salt Lake City.

Black Hills of South Dakota. Nice nature but nothing too strenuous. Safe. Like Colorado but without the hippies and not as expensive. The town of Hot Springs is nice and has a nice thermal bath. Some dinosaur shit there too. Mt Rushmore is kind of a meme but eh your boomer dad might like it. Badlanda NP is nearby too.

Blacks Hills and North East are good options as listed above. You could also try the Ozarks region by Arkansas and Missouri. It’s plenty safe and has great views

the Outer Banks of NC. great beaches good for relaxing, a neat pirate museum, Kill Devil Hills (where the wright brothers first flew the airplane) and the aviation museum there, and plenty of smaller entertainment places like laser tag and arcades in the area for when you just want to have fun. nice and relaxing, plenty to do, close by, no major hiking, on the cheaper side, and no gambling that i know of. have fun wherever you go!

You'll spend the entire 3 days in the car unless you limit yourself to your quarter of the country

Go to Boston. Rent a car and drive up Nantucket.
Or maybe fly into Salt Lake City and drive up to the Tetons and Jackson Wyoming. Do a chill little rafting trip. Stop at Lava Hot springs along the way and chill in the hot springs.

>never provides a single iota of fucking content when he takes his trip
This is so infuriating. It ruins the whole point of this board when every traveling poster is a goddamn parasite and not a contributor.

You must be one hell of a fucking shallow faggot if one of the the cradles of America history has nothing to do you for. Or maybe you're so fat your can't walk to the subway stations that go to all the major tourists spots or maybe the some clerk made some joke that rustled your candy ass. History, high density of museums (MFA, gardner, the fucking library, don't need a car. Plus they shove all the homeless into the poor areas. It's not DC but it's also a real city not a perfectly planned hub of MIC and glowy tax payer leeches.

Going to second the Blue Ridge Parkway as an option. Gives you great views without needing to get too involved in hiking (though the option is there). You could also just spend your time in the Great Smokies. Nature, hikes that aren't too strenuous, Dollywood if you like amusement parks, and plenty of odd tourist shit scattered around.

Other options I'd recommend are the Grand Canyon and St. Augustine. For GC, you won't be hiking deep inside, but just seeing it is worth it. You can spend a day there, then head to Sedona or something like that. With St. Augustine, you're getting less impressive nature, but more history. Take a walk around the town one day, hit up a beach the next, then do some other Florida shit like natural springs, airboat tours, Daytona, or just take some more time in St. Augustine itself.

>3 days
Does that include travel time? What city are you flying out of?

I second Black Hills area (Badlands, black hills, rushmore, deadwood) etc it's very good for 3 days

Also:
>Philly (it's not dangerous where you'll be you'll not be going to the dangerous parts. You can also do a day trip to amish areas or the suburbs which have some nice towns/sites)

>South Utah
Might be hard if the three days includes travel times tho since you'd have to fly into LV and drive a while

>Maine
Should be easy to fly into Bangor and you can rent a car, see some beatuful towns and go to Acadia great for 3 days

>Seattle
Seattle + Rainer is doable in 3 days

Fellow Southern Man. There really is nothing in the Confederacy except the Ozarks and Smokeys. I suggest Flagstaff and Sedona Arizona for some nice scenery. Yellowstone and Montana for mountains and nice towns. The Olympic peninsula of Washington state is aesthetic af. Fuck the northeast. It's all run down with very stupid people.

The Smokeys are nice. there's tons of stuff OP can see within a few hours of his home that doesn't require spending days on a plane like the idiot other posters here suggest.

I wish I could visit the Ozarks.

What’s that place like? I’m debating whether to fly into Portland or Bangor for a fall trip. I could always drive to Portland and spend a day there

nta but from what i understand its one of those dying coastal cities that has nothing going for it economically so theres tons of homeless junkies. but desu never driven through there specifically. also if you go to bar harbor this time of year its extremely crowded.

portland is the easy 'tourist destination' city but i dont know what it is people do here other than eat at restaurants that arent that great and get scammed at giftshops.

im being pessimistic though so take with grain of salt. maybe if youre from some concrete jungle the experience here is a little more serene

Bangor is pretty fucking dull, it's also inland, but it's one of the few places you can likely fly into in that part of maine. You're only going there to get up north (to like Baxter SP or something) or to the coast like Bar harbor, Acadia, etc
Also just to throw it out there with >>2804084, Portland is fucking expensive for any kind of food. In general all along coastal maine avoid getting yourself scammed into a $30 lobster roll that is the size of a baby's fist. You can buy live lobster for way cheaper and cook them yourself.

I will, it's just a far drive for me from the east coast (two days out, three days back)
and I have yet to see a COMPELLING view from the Ozarks that makes it worth it to visit.
