I live in South Carolina and want to see the midwest. Should I spend three days in Kansas City or spend three days traveling around northern Michigan (stopping by Grand Rapids and maybe Traverse City)? Both seem interesting to me.

There's not 3 days worth of things to do in KC. The states around the Great Lakes seem more interesting if you want to see another part of the country.

Sure, if you're not a romantic for jazz and barbecue.

KC doesnโ€™t have much to see although the barbeque is S tier. If youโ€™re looking to see a city Chicago is easily the best. Michigan is good for nature.

KC travel guide from a cornfed downtown resident
>travel first weekend of the month between april-october
>go to first friday art festival and find an art ho who hates country life
>spend saturday at WWI memorial/museum, dinner at Wolfepack or Q39 BBQ (gates and jackstack are meme spots that suck dick these days, you'll be disappointed(still better than everyone else))
>drink at green lady lounge with 16/7 365 jazz
>fly home hungover cause there ain't shit to do sunday except eat breakfast in river market
three days is fine but you gotta plan it a little otherwise you'll be bored idling in a hotel until events happen
go to a concert or game at arrowhead/Kauffman if you can
and rent a car or stay in the downtown corridor along the streetcar because joggers don't like rail travel here for some reason, they all stay on buses
Independence is a shithole, the comfy Truman historic vibes are all goyed and methed up
Excelsior Springs has a cozy hotel but not worth more than an overnight trip

forgot to add nelson atkins museum, full of art hoes and its free entry
outside of that there really isn't much to do, I've covered pretty much anything of note that is unique to KC beyond horrible crime east of troost and homeless camps along truman/independence ave
seriously our homeless are worse than NYC because they don't have rathole tunnels to hide in, they gotta stay in sight of civil society here

The Plaza is just as great of a place to walk around as downtown. Wish there was more though, considering there's just as many statues and fountains in KC as Rome.

people say that but if that is what constitutes beauty for a city then our standards are fucked

The Lake Michigan coast of lower Michigan is very beautiful. Traverse City is the biggest city along the coast, but the small towns are very neat and idyllic.

I can't believe people travel from all over the world to visit Naples. So disgusting. Boring concrete and cars going fast.

maybe it's because I live here, but I honestly can't see anyone coming in for more than a few days. At least euro cities are fun to walk around because there's history behind everything going back thousands of years. Here you might find a civil war battlefield that is nothing more than a forest with a trail running through or an indian mound that was excavated and flattened for suburbs, that's about it.

I've walked the entire length of a few dozen cities in Europe, and they were far from fun. And who gives a shit about the past. Set your eyes on the horizon. Move forward. That's what our ancestors did when the monsoons moved north and the Green Sahara started to turn into a desert.
