Regular flights started again by Turkish airlines, should I go? How is it? Heard the past 2 years or so the nightlife is surprisingly good. And everything is cheap for now

I liked flying with Turkish Airlines. The connection from Vilnius is the cheapest I've found to get to Denver from Europe, and it includes complimentary checked luggage. Yeah, the flight path is very indirect, but a 24 hour layover in IST makes it low-stress and adds another country visit to this trip. Turkey recently waived the visa requirement for burgers too.

Anyway yeah, why not go to Damascus? Doubtful there will be a lot of clubbing going on with the new Islamist government...

Did you hear about a very significant change in Syria within that 2-year period?

Damascus is okay, but the new government under al Sharaa is more fundamentalist Muslim than the Assad regime was. There is lower tolerance for debauchery these days.

The country itself is also still very dangerous. The Arabs, Druze, Alawites, and Kurds are all still killing each other as they try and shape the new government. Throw in perpetual Israeli bombings and ISIS suicide bombers, and Syria is looking like it’s still in the ‘extreme travel’ category. I’d give it five years and see if it becomes a failed state or if they can get it together like Iraq is.
