Is there any sim card that's worth a damn that you can buy and top up to use between SEA countries? Tired of dealing with airport wait lines and other BS to grab a sim or deal with someone line bullshit about how it slows to 2mbps during 9-5 or doesn't come with a local number for some odd shit that no one told me needs a local cell #. What do long term Asian enjoyers use for +30 day sims?

>inb4 esim
My Phone doesn't support 2 active esims at the same time, last time I deactivated my esim for my provider it wanted me in the USA to reactivate it meaning all OTP messages went to my tablet.

What does that have to do with sim cards?

What did you use? I've never had any issue with being in the country when I said it up, I just use Wifi at the hotel/airport and I'm good to go.

I have Google Fi, so last time I deactivated the service abroad I could not reactivate it until I was back in the USA meaning I had to do an expensive flight to the US and back just go get my calls/texts working right. It's not an issue if you're within the <90 day travel window abroad that data+call+text is normal service, just after that 90 day limit.

That's nice but I often go hiking, stay in smaller towns, exploring, stay out late on the weekends at bars, and so on. "just use the wifi" is nice if I was in Tokyo but not when I am mulling around in Scandinavia or New Zealand

Well my point was when you enter the country you can set it up, I wasn't suggesting you set up your phone in the middle of a hike.

Yeah no shit anon congrats on stating that.

The point in the OP is asking if there is a regional sim card for SEA that can be used for data rather than always getting one when arriving in a new country. In SEA you may not always fly to new place or arrive at an hour that sim card place is open.

The question is, again, is there a sim card you can use between countries that last a fairly long time. This is because deactivating a esim like GoogleFi or Tmobile, you lose calls/text abilities and the inability to reactivate it abroad if outside the US for 90 days.

Because you're substandard garbage provisioned for embedded devices pretending to be cell phone service, re-packaged in an eSIM (or physical SIM for lagdroid) format

Cell phone networks have the following priority:
1) Organizational network purchases such as 911/emergency providers and large firms for internal use
2) Regular cell phone network voice and data for regular subscribers paying monthly as registered customers (may or may not be contract, but never prepaid). When you roam in any other country from your normal service provider, you are on this level
3) Prepaid phone voice and data service, poor people who pay ahead of time monthly because you can't be trusted with money, service cuts off if unpaid immediately
4) Data only service, no real phone number provided. When some scumbag reseller buys up these they add a substandard VoIP add-on and sells to stupid foreigners at airports, this is what you're buying
5) Cheap as shit data service that slows down dramatically or routes though shitholes like Hong Kong because these are originally data services provisioned for appliances, (non-phone) work devices, and other such things. Frequently re-packaged as "global eSIMs" for the truly retarded who don't understand how businesses work or how cell phone networks sell priority (and when you have no priority at all, nothing works)

Yes, that has been established, my point was that when he enters a country he will likely enter a place with wifi - whether that be an airport, border gate, bus station, whatever. He felt the need to make a strange comment as if I were suggesting he can do this magically anywhere in the world, which I never said.

Anon I am talking about a fair amount of plans in SEA that quite literally have slow down times for their "unlimited options". I'm just wondering if there is a sim that can be used for regional purposes so I can stop buying or dealing with sim swaps every other month. Simply top it off by an ap or whatever

Not even the point of the thread just a minor gripe. Does no one live long term abroad? Is this only just people dipping out for a month and going "yup imma real digital nomad now kek! basically a local at this point." while using whatever sim on klook they found?

Southeast Asia isn't Europe. Each country has its own border control, its own currency, and its own cellular networks.

So fucking what? Are you gonna die if you can't access Instagam and TickTock the moment you enter a country? No. Stop being a little bitch ass zoom zoom social media addict.

Download an offline map app and drop a pin for your hotel location. Figure out in advance how you are gonna get from the bus station to your hotel.

Lucky you. Third World public wifis never work for me.

Ok. Most likely not.
Shit like the European SIM card that allows you stay connected through the EU because the countries agree that operators cannot overcharge for roaming fees are pretty rare.
There's the EU, there are the Balkans, the Andean community in South America... but Afaik, none in the ASEAN.
The best option depends on where are you from and how many MNO (not virtual) are in your market. If there are several like 3 or more, good for you and chose the company which covers more countries, but is not as big to shy away from roaming agreements.
Arw you from a concentrated market? 2 options, buy several eSIM, one for each country. I wondered how do they work, but it seems they buy service in bulk from one provider and then they sell it. So they work on tier 2 of >>2800648, just don't expect a public local number.
The other option is buy several SIM from local companies or just one from a healthy market and then roam.
Problem, buy a line as a foreigner may be a pain in the ass as they need your ID, or maybe your phone must be registered. Even if that might be easy, I'd be wary of identity theft.
On the other hand, a lot of MNO just limit the roaming time, so if you're going to stay outside the MNO home country for a long time, expect a ban.
Tl;Dr
Pay your roaming fees.
