Okay I’m currently interailing through mainland Europe and everywhere is whinging and complaining every time I make a card transaction. This really fucking grinds my gears because finding an atm which doesn’t charge service fee (5 euro on average = 10 AUD which is extortionate) is near impossible.

If I know I’m visiting a country which used prodoninately cash I will withdraw a heap but that is also a burden. I am currently in Austria and I have never seen so many cunts whinge and eye roll when saying you have cash, let alone businesses which won’t even do the same. Me losing 5 euro is more devastating to their 0.0001 transaction fee or whatever the fuck it is. I understand cash is Important for the people but it’s also a burden.

Am I the only one here, this is with wise bank btw

Wise isn't a bank it's a FinTech company

No issues using chime, I always hit pay in local currency on the machine and I get 0 transaction fee's and pay near same exchange rates.

Tell the merchant to go fuck themselves and make then accept your card. Daily reminder when merchants hide from cards that's because they're hiding from a paper trail that trips up their tax evasion

>FinTech
Go fuck yourself. Firms with a bullshit financial business model adding a sprinkle of some nonsense "technology" only exist because suckers like you eat up their shit. If you have to re-frame your business to scam stupid investors you are the cancer

Anon, the post was correct Wise is a Financial Technology company that only moves money around from various holding firms. No need to kill the messenger like a dick you retard.

Honestly there is no real downside to using a FinTech for purchases and small time banking funds if you know the limitations of it. Just make sure the fintech is FDIC insured and store most your funds within a brick-and-mortar style bank or credit union. Your fintech funds if FDIC insured up to 250k. OP is most likely selecting the "convert" option at the cashier which often has a 3-8% mark up fee of the purchase, always select the use local currency option and let your card do the services.

Some fintech benefits are better foreign transaction fee's, free atm usage/refunding atm fee's, and so on. So just out right saying "fuck em" is childish.

You are aware the term "payment processor" has existed for decades, firms that transfer money around have existed forever, and the industry as a whole is very mature. There is no "innovation" be had here, everything already exists and calling it something else doesn't make it new. Every scumbag using the term "fintech" truly deserve to be shot

Yeah sorry but card fags are gay. If everyone at bars and restraunts paid cash the service would be much faster
Ive been to so many bars that have slow service and the reason is the dumb waitresses have to print papers and make people sign. If everyone just wasnt a fag they would leave cash and leave asap
I do construction work for homeowners and most jobs are 150-300 dollars and these fags in 500k homes are too retarded to have 500--2000 hidden somewhere, its not that hard unless your a nigger and your cousin snoops for your $ or your too dumb to find a good hiding spot
End blog post

I don't think you understand banking lmao. No one ever said fintechs were some kind of new gift to the world, they are just more competitive if you use them right. Why are you so mad for some anon pointing out that Wise is just that an Financial Technology firm as OP seems to assume it's a bank...

I get there are some scummy ones out there but hey, Wells Fargo exists in the bank sector. There is nothing wrong with using a fintech company, especially for travel, if you know it's strengths and weaknesses. My fintech backed card has near 1:1 USD to Euro/JPY/WON/PHP and a few others, all while giving me a lot easier control over my card and account. Compared to my bank which charges 3% every transaction outside the USA AND charges me ATM fees AND charges me 50 a month if I don't have at least X in checking vs. savings AND takes a day to properly move funds. Yeah I'll go with what works.

No one has given me shit for taking a card anywhere in Europe besides a Parisian boomer and a trinket salesman in Romania.

I don’t even carry a wallet. All my cards are on my phone.

They bring the card processor to the table. It takes like 30 seconds. The service is slow because that’s the norm in Europe.

New to Europe? Everyone has a bad service attitude here. Okay, maybe 10% offer the friendly service that's standard in other parts of the world, but the other 90%, sheesh. Euros are so used to it they don't even notice, and they get all defensive when a foreigner says something about it.

You should try to find an ATM without fees. ATMs will give you big bills which will get you the same snarky eyerolling bitchery at the register.

>leave cash on the table and walk away
Nigga this is low-trust Europe. Nobody ever leaves cash unsecured here, even in the most idyllic small towns.

OP here, because my currency is in Euro there is no conversion. I am getting paid from a european country so there is no conversion happening at all.

>OP seems to assume it's a bank...
desu I don't know what it is all I know is that it stores my money (I don't store savings in there I do have a brick and mortar bank like mentioned) But I never had withdrawal problems throughout the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia & some Balkan countries
There are promps when paying with my australian card which I never use.

>>2800489
Look I get it and if half of my paycheque came in cash straight away from my employer it would be fine. But getting cash out is a nuisance you are at risk of losing it or getting robbed. If everyone paid in cash it would be okay hence why its good going to a cash country. But fucking ATM fees are absolute shite

>>2800582
Been in Europe for a year but its just mainland europe I am having these cash problems in, I only give them the 10% tip if they ask for it desu but the wages here (country depending) aren't too bad.

This, Euro service is so bottom of the barrel garbage that you just roll with it. If they look or act pissed about something just know they do that to the other 99.9% of people they deal with. While I don't totally support tip culture at least when I go to the US service is snappy and they pretend to care about my needs.

Not sure what you are complaining about most machines here are still on the slow 3G network or worse, no one likes to pay for internet here especially restaurants. It's going to be slow always, where exactly are you going for cash only purchases? I can only think of a handful of places here and those are often the shitty kebab places open at 4AM or bars that you get the ~18 y/o crowd at

It's a (You) problem. Waiters of both sexes are all smiles with me, wherever in the world. Wanna know why? Because I'm not a filthy Anglo who just barges in and starts ordering in English. Like any decent human being, I start with "Hello" in the local language and ask for permission to sit.

You never leave the main tourist spots. In fact, you will never know what it's like to be invited over for tea or coffee by complete strangers. You do not know what traveling means.
