I’ve recently come across a Japanese traditional craft called "Tokyo Ginki" (silverware from Tokyo). Has anyone here ever bought anything like that — either in Japan or online?

I’d also love to hear about other traditional Japanese crafts you’ve purchased—like Arita porcelain, Kyoto textiles, lacquerware, or anything else. What did you buy, where did you get it, and was it worth it?

Curious to hear your experiences and recommendations!

Some Japanese products are extremely high quality, and typically have a price to match.
Other Japanese products are no different to the quality of things you can find in the west if you pay a little more, and are basically over priced compared to those western products. My advice is to always do thorough research into the types of products and the reputation of the seller. Worst case scenario you buy some low quality Chinese shit masquerading as Japanese.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment – I agree it's essential to research both the product and the seller carefully.

I'm currently doing a bit of research on traditional Japanese crafts in general, and I’m really interested in hearing from people who have actually bought these kinds of items during their travels.

Have you ever purchased any traditional Japanese crafts? If so, I’d love to hear what you bought, where you got it, and whether you were happy with the quality.

Totally get your reaction – it does look pretty simple at first glance.

Just to give a bit of context: this is actually a small spoon specifically designed for eating ice cream. The minimal design is intentional, and it uses silver’s high thermal conductivity to make scooping hard ice cream easier. I personally think it's a thoughtful and well-crafted piece.

If there were more variation in the design – not just in size but also in shape or decoration – do you think you’d consider actually buying something like this?

Lmao do you also get bent out of shape when people dip their sushi in a mixture of wasabi and onions sauce? Japan is just another bugman shithole with inferior culture. They stopped making anything of value when they stopped making cameras and motorcycles.

Japanese jeans are nice. Durable like American jeans used to be but for a very reasonable price.
