I'm from the UK currently travelling across central asia en route to China. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna run out of money when I get to China and I'm wondering have any of you anons ever got a loan from the embassy to pay for your flight?

What was the process like? Did they make it difficult? I'm especially interested if any other Brit anons have done it.

Enjoy getting turned away right at the border because you can't prove funds or a hotel booked to stay at.

I had a friend who got his wallet+passport lost and had to use the embassy home, not sure the exacts but it was a heafty price since they don't exactly shop around for deals on cheapest way home. It's often jsut "quickest thing that comes up". He was bitching about paying it back for months so it wasn't cheap.

Anon, China literally requires you to provide your hotel booking and register it at a police station within 24 hours of crossing the border. Failing to do so can result in prison and deportation, that is assuming you get in.

There are tons of youtube videos of retarded euros arriving and not providing proof of a flight out or booked hotel and get turned away with a huge fine.

Yes, you have to prove it, China is very scrupulous with this stuff. You have to have booked hotels, and your departure flight/train ticket before you even try to enter the country.

Why should I have to prove anything other than a valid passport? I'm not traveling to burger land. My EU passport allows me to travel far more freely than mutts. The embassy can just fly me back with a bill I may or may not pay. It's not a big deal at all it doesn't hurt them or their economy I could even help teach English for free.

Just go home now/early, you immature brokefag, geesh. How embarassing to run out of money and even talking to an embassy for help. It's not their problem. You talk to family first, and deal with them directly to wire your own money to you. You haven't been in a plane crash during war times. Your consulate and embassy are supposed to help you as a crime or medical trauma, or possibly unjust legal touble, to get you back to civilation. You're not even supposed to get their help if you're not connected to a politically powerful family. You're a nobody and you have no money too? Would they stop on the street and give you a nickel if you were a homeless guy in London? You are creating your own problems.

*can but doesn't. laws in china exist for the possibility of later use if needed. if you have read the rules then i can see why you are shitting your pants at the thought of not sticking to requirements, but the reality is that things in china are way more free flowing than the rules imply. you only need to register at the police station if your hotel isn't hooked up to the system with the Register Foreigner option which i admit is probably near land border on the western border if the anon doesn't go to a large city quickly. you can also do it after the 48 hour requirement if you just say you weren't able to. you can also just ignore it and assume it won't be an issue because unless you are doing something illegal and are arrested the cops won't care.
i have moved around unregistered many times,on many trips, in many cities, even during covid. if you go to the cops you get registered on a computer and sign a book and get a receipt but at no point does anyone ever ask for your receipt. the immigration when you leave don't ask for it, no one cares if you are registered.

You do understand that the US Passport is “less free” because of reciprocal visa requirements. The EU is basically a whore open to the turd world while the USA restricts access from the turd world. So the turd world (like China) tries to act like a badass and put visa restrictions on the US passport holder.
Your EU whore passport is nothing to be proud of.

Why didn’t Xi’s daughter live in the EU and go to university? Instead she graduated from an exclusive university in the US! Weird? She went to Harvard with the elites from all over the planet. That's wonderful, anon! How knowledgeable you are about this! However, hear me out, if you ever want to go to China (something that is clear to me that you probably not) you still have to proof:
1. Departure flight-train ticket
2. Booked hotels
3. You have money to spend in China.

The reason (You) didn't get asked is because chances are you flew in and already had a flight out booked. The airlines relay this information to the check-in country and the CBP agents so when you land, they've already matched your information to your connection. No one is really going to ask you too much in regards to proof of funds for someone staying well under the 144hr visa free limit.

OP showing up as a literal bum via some unconventional method of entering the countries will 100% be asked for their ticket onward, failing to provide that they will ask for what hotel, and most certainly ask how he plans to get from hotel to his port of exit.

OP here. I have absolutely no idea why this thread has caused so much seethe and butthurt.

I have money. If I need to prove an exit flight then I can although I'd rather not because I would rather be fluid with my plans. Likely I will just get a flight and cancel like I did for my visa application. My issue is I will run out of money in China not before. I just want the embassy to give me a loan because I know I will go home and get a job so I would rather spend my money in the country an enjoy myself rather than on a flight home. It's not a big deal. The stupid government will get their money back and they'll get my taxes which pay for their bloated wages so they can spend it drinking tea with diplomats and nutting in chinese hookers. They have their fun why can't I have mine.

Also plenty of people travel with no money and actually it is a far more enriching experience than spending all your time on the tourist designated merry go round of traps and scams.

People do it when they are scammed out of all their cash, lose their passport, or have an emergency back home they need to.

I had a friend (European) I was visiting Japan with precovid who had to use this and it was hellish.Lost his bag that had his wallet+passport in it. He had to explain why he didn't have enough money, file a police report for his stolen wallet and passport, then have a flight booked he needed to be on in a 48hr window. For him it was the next day. He got charged some absurd amount for the airline booking, embassy fee's, and so on. It was a real hellish thing to pay back as their focus is getting you home fast, not getting you home cheap and at your leisure.

Are you actually so room temp IQ that you think it's just a book now pay later whatever you want kinda deal? Nigga that's called a credit card

Also I do believe they front you some money, I think he got 200 Euro's worth of cash so he could make it to the airport and also have enough for a taxi/train home. Not sure if that's standard but again, you're just snowballing the amount you owe the government you're borrowing from. Maybe if you are from some country like Norway they don't care about fee's and such that much but I assume most are going to charge you out the ass for everything.

Not to be on OP's side but first they will have OP call his friends and family asking for money and then after that humiliation ritual and all options exhausted they will book a flight and a method home. If at which time OP was truly out of money would be a next day or same day flight meaning it will easily be 3-5x the normal cost of booking ahead.

But hey OP is from the UK maybe he is a migrant originally and he can just say paying back loans is racist before being gifted 10,000 pounds.

idk man that's the point of the thread is to find out. I've never met anyone who has done it but of course I've heard people do it.

You never know with European governments sometimes they can be very carefree with handing money out I thought if I pay it back then what is the big deal. I mean literally I could get a loan for a flight, go home and claim welfare and pay it off. When I actually want the government to give me relatively not much money that I will pay back when I get home because I know I will get a job. What sounds better for the treasury?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/your-finances-when-travelling-abroad

IF they deem your case as a huge fuck up, then you must
>sign a declaration of repayment
>hand over your passport
>book a dirt cheap transport method home
>travel on an emergency document

I.e. you won't ever leave the UK again until you've repaid the loan.

I honestly would say YOLO it and report back. Using the Foreign Office as a payday loan company is unbelievably based, and far better value for the UK taxpayer than helping Ahmed Mohamed and his 26 ''''''''family members'''''''''' stay in 4* hotels to rape locals.

UK citizen = visa needed, OR 10 day transit visa where you MUST have evidence of a flight leaving China in an ABC pattern (i.e. UK - China - Thailand).
