How is Etihad Airways for an economy trip? Probably going to be using their new A350-1000 flight out of ATL next year as a connecting to Jakarta.

I had a connecting flight going to the same destination a couple years ago through Qatar and wasn't impressed. It was totally jeeted and the aircrew prioritized Arab customers over whites rather than equally. One kid shit their pants and the mother didn't change it the whole 15 hour flight. Whole cabin smelled like shit. So, I'm looking to avoid that this time. Would much rather go Pacific route through Hong Kong or Tokyo, but the flights are twice as expensive with someone like AA or Cathay.

Getting to ride on this plane alone is worth it.

I flew Etihad only once like 9 years ago from Madrid to Shanghai. The layover in AUH was nasty. The toilets were flooded with water so had to wait till i got on the plane so i could chuck a shit in peace. The flight itself was perfect though. One of the better, if not best, economy class seats of any airlines, and I would assume a A35K would only be better.

I had an ok experience in Doha, minus the janitor trying to open my door while I was taking a shit. However, on the return flight, Doha was a nightmare. Had to go through 3 separate checkpoints to get to the exit gate and each time they checked my child's clearly labeled cough medicine for illegal substance.

I've read that they updated the place in Abu Dhabi, apparently very recently, so should be a better experience. The layover is like half as long as the one I had in Doha a few years ago. Hopefully, there is an actual boarding ramp as well rather than a damn bus ride to the plane like in Doha.

Yeah man...i get ya. I too would rather avoid the middle eastern airlines but if it's cheaper and a shorter flight, then i'd suck it up and go with it. Enjoy the A35K!

Recently flew DC -> Abu Dhabi -> Delhi and back. DC to AD wasn't bad. Actually mostly empty flight so I had a whole row to myself. AD to and from Delhi were both packed and the toilets were quickly dirtied despite the crew cleaning them often. AD to DC, I had one of the worst smelling guys I've ever been around next to me. Any time he raised his arm or I turned towards him, I was nauseous. It was a full flight though, so I couldn't switch seats.
Entertainment and food were decent. Nothing great but not bad. All in all I'd probably avoid, especially if flying to south Asia.

Bring your own eye mask and earplugs. Their amenity kits are basic or nonexistent in economy
