I'm having a hard time understanding simple things right now.
I have some Japan Airline Miles (JMB) that I wanna convert to the Oneworld airline alliance company Iberia express at worst, or to Air France at best.
I only flew JAL, but never did on those two other companies.
Could I be converting those JAL Miles to one of the members of the OneWorld alliance or to a completely extraneous company such as Air France?
I've flown very little in my life so after having looked up for hours (weeks actually), I still am dumbfounded on such simple matters.
Thanks

I don't think there is a way to transfer JMB miles to any other loyalty program. You can use them for flights on other oneworld airlines, though, booked through JAL. Their award chart doesn't look too shabby so I'm not sure why you'd want to transfer them anyway unless you didn't have enough for a redemption.

Transferable miles are mostly limited to bank programs like Chase and Amex, and are a one-way street. E.g. Amex points to ANA miles, but never the other way. Hotel loyalty points like Marriott and Hilton can often be transferred to airline programs, but the transfer ratios are usually really shifty.

can't do that. just use your JAL miles to buy an Iberia flight or something.

You're JAL miles work with oneworld, you just have to book through the JAL website and then select "use miles" at checkout

I have JAL miles left that I wanna use before they expire, but I never used miles for award tickets before. Never used miles at all either.

Wait do you actually have a JAL card? You're not transferring that outside of Japan Airlines to book things. There is a reason weebs get laughed at when they sign up for JCB or some jap airline. It's all bullshit tailored specifically to flights japanese use, not random flights outside of japanese owned businesses.

LMAO weeb fucked up again

In general:

1) Airlines miles cannot transfer from one airline to another, even in the same alliance (oneworld). An exception exists when some firm owns all the airlines involved, when it's allowed. e.g. BA Avios is transferable with all other Avios because the same firms owns all of them.

2) The only way to get more of some "other" program not JL is to credit your JL flights to other programs, all oneworld are allowed, and also when JL has joint ventures or direct relationships with the other program (e.g. HA)

3) You can book through JL to other oneworld airlines, subject to JL's rates and program terms. This can be favorable or unfavorable, depends on your desired flight. There are credit card issuers that award transferable points that you can send to any airline they have a deal with, large banks like Amex, Chase, and Citi all do this.

4) In the event you can't use the miles on a flight, you can always use them on useless junk sold on their website. But the only valuable use of miles is on the thing you get them from, flights and nothing else

Daily reminder almost no one in the US uses the JL card issued by the First National Bank of Omaha which also issues the NH card) because the bank is stupid, the card does nothing, and the earn rate completely useless. JCB cards (no longer issued in the US, all accounts closed) however are useful because they bypass Japan-only billing address restrictions from some merchants. Discover/UnionPay can act like JCB cards in Japan, but not online

I can 100% use my AAdvantage miles to book flights on JAL/Alaska Airlines/etc. Not sure what you're smoking, I just have to login to aa.com first so that it can autofill the code shares.

If you have a JAL card, the nippon airways card. You're going to need to book flights through the cards website and use pay with miles.

If you did get a JAL account/card, chances are it's going to want flights/trips originating from Japan. This is a common thing with Japanese cards being that the source of all redeemable "offers" only are for Japanese living in Japan. At best you might be able to login to JAL and see if you can book but it seems like you can't.
>Round trip FranceSpain is unavailable (Madrid airport is no selectable).
Yes because JAL specifically wants you to use JAL specific routes meaning a leg of JAL flights or flights to Japan.

tl;dr for getting your JAL weeb flex card, you basically have useless miles

Congrats on owning a mainly useless travel card.

If you want flexibility with Air France, you’d have to collect Flying Blue miles separately.

Anyone care to wager what the effect of all the miles and points bullshit on actual ticket prices is? That airlines and other companies effectively try to become financial institutions is maddening. The same for all of the loyalty programs popping up for groceries and what not; I‘m sick of everything wanting a membership and an app.

Look again, moron. OP has the Japan Airlines *Membership Card* image, which means he just has an account with no status. Do you see a credit card network symbol? That's not the credit card JAL gets some bank to issue for them

>Miles earned from flights and shopping can be used to travel within Japan or to destinations around the world.
>Travel to more destinations around the world through the oneworld network.
>You can earn miles for credit card spending, shopping and everyday activities.
>Earn flight miles on JAL Group domestic, JAL Group international, oneworld alliance and JMB partner flights.
Anon OP's card acts the exact same way a Delta' Airlines card backed by Mastercard/Visa would.

Are you merely pretending to be retarded? I've looked at OP's card before and decided against this when AA's card is far superior. JAL's card is specifically tailored and for Japanese citizens or people living in Japan. It's not for the One World client focus.

Thanks; I really thought I could have transferred my miles to the Flying Blue program, since I tried some dates, and since they asked me my miles reward program with JAL as a possibility, that's what I thought was going on.
And I would not use Paris airports either, so it narrows down my choices I guess (to go to Madrid for example).
I barely flew in my life so I'm really not used to all these concepts.
