My ex (26F) (2 years relationhsip, over 1 year living together) who started working at the Expo in Osaka on March, broke up with me (27M) 2 months ago, however i had already booked tickets to visit her there. I dont feel like going anymore but i feel it would be a waste to lose the chance to go. What do i do? What can i do there? I was supposed to go see my gf and now i am going there as a hasbeen. It hurts bros and noone understands...

Make an itinerary of things to do and go. Get yourself into the mindset of enjoying an adventure and meeting new people. I‘ve never been to Japan but from my experience with them outside of it, Nips are a lot of fun.

Oh, and brush up a bit on how to comport yourself and learn basic phrases in Japanese if you have this much time to prepare.

I went to Osaka on 2023 and it absolute sucked compared to when I went in 2013 (my 30s) and 2003 (my 20s)

it was just a sea of morons posing for instagram photos and making tiktok video clips everywhere you go.

Yeah. Osaka is the place I tell people I hate/absolute normies to visit when they go to Japan. For people I don't hate, I advise absolutely anywhere else.

Osaka is overwhelmingly foreigners at this point. If you're a white person who can't speak Japanese, you probably won't notice it. But I've showed people around town and they've pointed to groups of fat brown Filipinos and 100% believed they were Japanese, so it shows how clueless tourists are and that dumps like Osaka really are perfectly fine for normies. There's nothing particularly interesting. The food isn't what it's hyped up to be and it's basically just a city with shitty bars catering to tourists.

But there is one great thing about Osaka: it's the most convenient city for visiting many of the best parts of Japan. Take a train in any direction and you'll be somewhere cool pretty quickly. Meanwhile Tokyo itself is interesting, but there's nothing else interesting within a 1 hour range of it.

japan is just fatigued at this point. But they need foreign currency infusion to keep the yen from collapsing.

but weebs visiting Japan in 2025 must be experiencing their own “Paris Syndrome” when the realization hits them that Japan has basically become an agong, broke, rundown shithole full of foreigners while other Asian/ASEAN counties are groung and developing.

im just glad I got to see Japan when it was still alive and not the dead zombie Japan that exista today.

i used to live with her in the same apartment for more than a year what are you talking about. she isnt japanese, she is european like me, she just moved to japan for 7 months to work. i thought we would manage, well we couldnt she made me move her things and give them to her sister. she orchestrated her exit bascially from afar. we were together for more than 2 years, i had met all her family, i had been to baptism nephew, wedding of her sister, she had met my parents. it wasnt a catfish, we were serious.
yet one day, she calls and tells me she doesnt love me anymore and we have to break up...
i also booked the tickets with her own approval, basically she insisted, she had even called my parents to tell me of the plan.

osaka has a lot to offer. if you list your hobbies/interests, people could give better recommendations. like a previous anon said, if at some point you dont like osaka you can easily take day trips to other cities nearby, such as kobe, nara, kyoto, and so on.
for nature, there is minoh park. this could be a half day of hiking and peaceful scenery
for a standard downtown vibe, there is the umeda district. it's mostly japanese people here with lots of shopping malls, tall buildings, and observation decks
touristy nightlife is mostly in dotonbori. it can feel like a packed theme park, but you should experience it for yourself at least once. lots of food, bars, and people from all over.
shinsekai is also touristy but worth looking at, preferably at night. it's got an older aesthetic than the previously mentioned areas.
osaka castle has big grounds you can walk around for free. it only costs money to go inside the castle. i hear the inside is not that great, so dont make that a priority. the outside area is pleasant to roam around. if you really care about japanese castles, go to himeji instead.
massive tourist attractions: universal studios and osaka aquarium. i havent been to either, but some people like them.

im sorry your gf broke up with you. you should definitely try to enjoy yourself on vacation. you may want to even cancel your osaka trip and just go somewhere else. good luck on your travels regardless.

i will go to Japan, because its a shame if i dont. i wont be able to alter or cancel the itinerary because its gonna be too costly. also it is a bit pathetic to cancel a trip of a lifetime for her. i will just stay a bit less in osaka and travel to other cities and to tokyo. thanks for the kind words.

if you still want recommendations, you should say what you are interested in. i didnt mention any weeb stuff, but if you like anime there is denden town in osaka for that.
also, the american movie Black Rain was filmed in osaka in the 80s. it's by ridley scott who did blade runner and alien. at times it's a silly movie, but worth a watch to hype up an osaka trip.

i am not a weeb. really not interested in japan shit, i just booked the tickets to see my girl, and also to see a new culture. last year i went to china (beijing, shanghai, xian, and some cities in the yantze delta) but it was a lads trip.
also i dont want to sound like a coomer bro, i wasnt planning to be, but since i go there with a heartbreak, might as well find a jap girl.
how are escorts there? do you have an idea?
also i am thinking Osaka-kyoto-nara and then tokyo, then again osaka to go back home. i wont go to the expo, i dont want to see her.
the movie btw looks cool i will check it out thanks

i dont know about escorts. this board tends to ban coomer talk, so watch out for that.
the cities you listed are solid for a first trip. both kyoto and nara have lots of shrines, temples, and older japan aesthetics. you could probably do just one of those two places unless you really are interested in looking at traditional japanese religious sites and culture. more women and nightlife in osaka and tokyo.

Unfortunately there's very few things worth seeing in Osaka, there's a reason it has a reputation as a home base rather than a specific travel destination.

The aquarium is cool. The castle is interesting but there's usually a huge line. Some dope malls and shopping centers as well that are just worth a walk-through even if you don't plan on buying anything. There's several venues where they host big concerts and events so it's probably worth checking out if anything worthwhile is in town - although ticket availability might be an issue. You can also check out the old World Expo site, I heard it's a park of some kind now.

Most of Osaka's appeal is nightlife, maybe food (though it's not that special imo), and the kind of establishments we're not allowed to discuss on this board.

go on the very top of horukas300 and enjoy some octopus balls. the aquarium is ok, but has a fuckton of people. not a must see in my opinion. but the port close by may have a gigantic cruise ship anchord, which I found pretty interesting

If I was you I would get a JR pass. 7 day JR pass for western Japan, kansai-san'in pass.

First go to Tottori, sand dunes and iwami coast. Not a lot of other things to do there but it's a change of pace from Osaka. The dunes are great, you can go sand boarding and there is a neat sand museum.

Then go to Hiroshima, a few things to see there.

Then move on to Fukuoka, it's a nice city. Also with the pass you can make a day trip to Nagasaki.

Other places of note but not really worth visiting with the pass, only if you have time;

Okayama - sleepy little city, not a lot there but it has good access to Naoshima island which is trippy or kurashiki, very old type town which is nice to visit.

Himeji - can see the big white castle and beside it a neat Japanese garden, not far from Osaka

Kobe. The only thing I liked here was the Kobe gardens, a lift take you to the top and it's a nice walk down.

Wakayama - only ever visited Kada town but it's run down and you would get bored very easy so I'd try and miss that
