Why not? I would rate Bangkok far above Tokyo especially for repeated visits. The temples etc. in Japan are nice but you can see them once and that's it. Thailand is just more fun, low cost, has delicious food everywhere, tropical climate, etc...

As for 2025 specifically, Thailand is one of the few places that Russians can visit, so I'm sure the numbers are higher because of that.

Sure there's also the degenerates but I don't think that the fat sexpats constitute more than like 1% of tourists going to Thailand - it's just a fun place to visit.

World class beaches
Economy is very reliant on tourism so tourist infrastructure and hospitality industry are very advanced for a developing country.
Also great food, temples, nature etc beyond just beaches.

That's the better question. Everywhere else in the world, bookings are charged all sorts of taxes and fees. In Thailand, Agoda bookings are significantly cheaper than walk-in rates. Most property staff will tell you to book online, save money.

But also marketing; Thailand invested heavily in being tourist-friendly with lots of hotels at all price points and lots of varied attractions (beaches, mountains, jungle, fishing, hookers, temples, easy day trips to other countries). They also used to cater to the retiree crowd for people (mostly men) who aren't rich and need someplace cheap to live out their last years. Oh, and Thailand is big on LGBTQ+ shit so they get that crowd and the weirdos who want to pretend that ladyboys aren't gay.

I can answer for a few places. Bangkok has modern infrastructure, cheap AF and very good food, Thai people are one of the best, mall culture.

For Pattaya right now, it's even more a shithole because of low tier pajeet shitters. Visa free for Indians is a mistake.

For Pai. Awesome weather, pretty laid back. One negative is the jews. So many fucking jews.

Lastly Hua Hin. One of the best beaches, good hike and places to explore. Overall good vibe there if you wanna relax at the beach without pajeet shitters.
