These are underappreciated, even shitty movies are more enjoyable with a director/writer commentary track
Any favorites? Everyone mentions the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell ones. American Pie movies of all things have entertaining tracks, as does pic related
I'll just get it out of the way:
>Evil Dead & Evil Dead 2
Joy Ride is a random one with a great commentary track
Resident evil has the best conversations with Milla and michelle.
>>211361402 (OP)>movies are more enjoyable with a director/writer commentary track
>>211361402 (OP)I like Zodiac a lot. Whatโs good about the commentary track? Who does it
>>211361483Steve zhan is my favorite since hearing him riff with Paul in that track.
Fight club is another classic must hear. Helena didn't know what grade school was when she said her infamous line.
Terry Gillam - Brazil
Edward Yang/Tony Rayns - Yi Yi
Ben Affleck - Armageddon
Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse Now
>>211362723Working class means repeat viewings of your limited collection and commentary tracks help with that. I watched the French dub of tomb raider several times out of boredom.
>>211362707That one has so much SOVL it's unreal.
Friday the 13th has a commentary with Betsy Palmer, which was surprising.
The original Little Shop of Horrors has a recent commentary with Seymour's actor.
>>211362993The sexual tension between them was palpable through the screen. Milla has chemistry with the guy who plays Carlos in the sequel as well. The actress who plays Jill is more professionally oriented while they are having a blast being silly billies.
every Arnold commentary:
>AAH NOW THE TERMINATOR IS ENTERING THE ROOM AND IS LOOKING FOR JOHN CONNOR ISN'T THIS CRAZY, AND NOW HE'S TAKING OUT THE GUN, UNBELIEVEABLE
>>211361402 (OP)I'm watching The Lawnmower Man with directors commentary right now.
>>211361402 (OP)Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Hunter was not sober for a single second of that commentary.

Saw 2 had Donnie whalberg being a total bro announcing he was a a fan of lizzie from starship troopers.
>>211361402 (OP)Pat from two best friends and peach saliva did a commentary watch along of the thing.
>>211361402 (OP)Yeah i love em and i go out of my way to find torrents that include the commentaries.
However there is nothing worse than a commentary by a "historian" or some kind of professor. The kind that just speak endless bullshit about their interpretation of each scene, and it's always the most pretentious, straw-grasping nonsense.
There's a guy who does commentaries for asian movies called Frank Djeng, he's great coz he provides excellent context for dumb white people like me.
>>211361402 (OP)even if you hate the movie, the commentary is a lot of fun. It's the author and the director being extremely passive aggressive and ripping the movie apart. The author hates how cheeky the movie is, the director hates how much nickelodeon breathed down his neck, both are unsatisfied and the commentary is a lot of fun because of it.
>>211365120Great rec, will watch. I loved the film when it first came out. Even saw sucker punch because of Emily.
James bond pretty good laserdisc commentary tracks

There's some really good commentary tracks on Tom Clancy films
>>211361402 (OP)all the mission impossible commentary with mcquarrie and cruise are gold
you really get a sense of how much of a madman both of then are
Yes. "Kung Pow: Enter The Fist".
The director's commentary was good, but what was really fascinating was the "what were they really saying" soundtrack. There's a completely different movie going on behind the dub.
>>211361402 (OP)My favorite DVD commentary was Pitch Black where halfway through Vin Diesel just starts decrying the very concept of DVD commentaries.
The original run of Futurama had great commentary tracks. They all feature directors, animators, writers and voice actors all on the same track so there's a good mix of information and joking around.
>>211361402 (OP)The commentary track on Conan the Barbarian (1982) is epic. John Milius just wants to talk about how awesome his movie is, but Arnold is just fucking around, bragging about which chicks he banged and such.
This is Spinal Tap is a well regarded one. Done in-character.
Hilariously it starts with the characters calling out the director for being a crypto-jew.

>>211361402 (OP)Terrifier is good, the short. It's on tubi as a double feature, first normal then with commentary
>>211366817Boo! Did he not get it? Same actors don't understand that fans want to delve deep into cinema.
>>211365120Fucking based anon, I loved that commentary as a kid.
>>211361402 (OP)Any james cameron commentary is great, he's a big nerd about a lot of the technical stuff in between some amazing shit talking and backhanded compliments.
Picrel has a great David Fincher/Robert Towne commentary track. It's fun hearing Fincher geek out all over the movie just for Towne to be all like "Nah, it's not that deep, we just didn't had any money for plan A lmao, did I mention that Polanski was a midget pos?"
>>211365120Fuck, I haven't heard this in 20 years. Thanks anon.

>>211362968based as fuck taste.

Space Balls has Mel Brooks calling all his jokes cheap.
The Benchwarmers commentary is legendary
>Abel Ferrara's King of New York track

>>211363226Fuck I need to watch this
what kind of commentary does Zodiac have?
>>211361402 (OP)Sideways has a great commentary track.
>>211363226Was he sober for a single second of his life?
>>211365120The only thing I remember of this commentary is Snicket repeatedly calling Cedric the Entertainer "Mr. The Entertainer".
>In 2005, the film received a "10th Anniversary Edition" DVD release, which includes such additional content as a commentary by Steve Latshaw and Fred Olen Ray, and footage from a failed Latshaw project titled Gator Babes. The commentary by Latshaw and Ray has been noted for the combativeness between the two, up to and including "a heated argument that results in Latshaw storming out."
>>211371132Watching YouTubers get on each other's nerves and is tough. Pat and Matt had several on air tiffs because the game they were playing was being unfair. The eternal darkness ending episodes were tense as hell.
anywhere to download commentary tracks?
>>211363198The one with the conan director is kino
VALKYRIE
>>211371992There ate a couple on YouTube but sparse.
>>211361402 (OP)Based thread! I always enjoyed listening to Wim Wenders talk, so all of his. Sometimes I just put them on in the car when I take long rides.
>>211361402 (OP)Casper Van Dien made a movie called Modern Vampires and the entire commentary track is him and the director laughing hella hard and how weird it was.
Resident Evil was good like a few anons have said but the weirdest part was near the end one of the guys (I think it was the screenwriter) made a vague reference to the actress of the Red Queen (a child) was cute or attractive or something. Michelle gets super passive aggressive towards him and Paul W.S. Anderson for the last 20 minutes while Mila tries to calm her down.
>>211371992No clue. But like
>>211372182 says I've been finding them on youtube then loading them up while I watch the movie in another tab or whatever.
>>211372277I have the DVD and have heard the commentary track several times but don't recall that. I know Milla and Michelle are together with one of the actors but the director is not with them.
>>211361402 (OP)>Everyone mentions the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell onesThey're genuinely great every single one. Val Kilmer does a good solo commentary for his movie Spartan. He just rips on the director a lot but you can tell he's just fucking around.
