Doctor Who is coming to CBeebies!
>The BBC is set to expand the Whoniverse as it launches plans for a brand new pre-school animation series which will see the Doctor’s adventures come to CBeebies for the first time ever.>The BBC is looking for a passionate production company to create and produce the series, which will run independently from the main show, that will see the Doctor travelling through time and space for the pre-school audience, solving mysteries and problems alongside their companions and other friends.https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2025/doctor-who-bbc-to-expand-whoniverse-to-cbeebies

>>211374500The BBC is still keen to have Ace and Frobisher involved in the cartoon, but is open to other ideas and will be including the Doctor more than initially planned to introduce a greater variety of subjects. It is a simple educational show for preschoolers, probably involving songs too.
The original concept was them trying out various sports to beat villains like the Sontarans and the Slitheen in a sporting cup, with Ace being the player and Frobisher as talking sports equipment. I read the pitch and it seemed fun for kids. The new company taking on production on behalf of the BBC and Disney will be welcome to use that or a variation of it or submit their own.
Oh, and you might have guessed from the air date of 2027, Piper is contracted as the Doctor for a three year period (minimum).
There will be 2 series 26 episode long each and each episode will last just under 5 minutes.

>>211376184It’s 8 years too late
>>211376166>child/family tone is the key to successYet there's no merchandise.
I would have never gotten into Doctor Who if not for the massive merchandise sales I saw in Asda as a child back in 2007, like pic rel.
Now it's been well over a decade since I've seen Doctor Who plastics in person. They don't even make Doctor Who Adventures magazines anymore.
>>211374821desu, this wont work, unless they make something as benign as Peppa Pig. Kids TV that kids watch is whatever their parents put on for them (while they use their tablets). And most parents (except very middle class ones) aren't about to show their kids gay DW.

>>211376130>Preschoolers have no concept of time travelIt's just Mr Peabody and Sherman.
>>211376059Nothing beats Shepherd's Boy
>>211376166If that's true, then RTD has always been the wrong man for the job, and has fundementally misunderstood DW, and what people (including children like about it).
At it's core, it's not bogeys and farts and Jar Jar Binks tier children's entertainment. It's a slightly hokey approximation of topical horror movies, that they managed to slip past the censors. It's always been that. Cybermen are kind of like zombies, for example. Daleks are Mars Attacks coded alien invaders. The whole middle Tom Baker era is basically a pastiche of Hammer Horror.
It's so strange that a man who presumes to be a fan just doesn't get it. You have to wonder what he liked about classic DW, and if it began and ended with K9 and Bonnie Langford.
>>211376130Maybe not. But sometimes if their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too, preschoolers can hear his name.
>>211376401It's especially bizarre considering he wrote one of the most edgiest VNA novels
>>211376166Jesus Christ - they're literally burnt the entire fandom to the ground and any money they have to keep this IP alive is going into toddlers television.
>>211376275Type it up dead fast. It's only a page synopsis and a page except. 1000 words maximum, but you don't have to use that much.
To be honest they get a lot of entries so it's a bit of a lottery. I think "Yaz the Spaz" is in with a good shot as it hits all the buttons that people are talking about these days, like incels and the disabled, as well as being a bit racey, but no more graphic than one is RTDs something for the dads moments (there was a roman shower in Lucky Day).

>>211376401The same RTD that puts a "something for the dads" in every episode, despite being gay, and wrote 73 yards and the Well in the last 2 series? He gets it, he just has to satisfy a lot of potential audiences.
Is the franchise even salvageable or is the only solution a hard reboot?
>>211376401It is a fundamentally family show. Stranger Things is the complete wrong tone for Doctor Who. It's meant to be a mix of silly and serious.
>>211375238The moment he left i lost all interest in the show.
I guess this is how Tennant fangirls used to feel back in the day
>>211376583They already did that with the Series 2 edits. I wonder if those have been archived.
From the pitch document:
We are keen to retain the following attributes. The Doctor:-
• is hugely intelligent, especially with scientific knowledge
• is aspirational for our audience
• travels through time and space saving individuals, civilisations, and planets
• is an alien with two hearts from the planet Gallifrey
• has a strong moral compass
• avoids physical combat, relying on intelligence, humour, and diplomacy to resolve conflicts
• has a TARDIS and a Sonic Screwdriver which should feature in the series
The Doctor will attract a range of friendly and relatable companions who join in on the adventures and provide additional points of view as they collectively solve problems.
It also wouldn’t be Doctor Who without villains and monsters, but these should be more mischievous or bumbling, rather than menacing, and provide the Doctor with challenges that can be overcome in a non-threatening way.
>A list of existing villains and foes for you to choose from will be provided to suppliers who register to pitch.
I wonder what villains and foes they have deemed suitable for under 6yr olds?
>>211376589Kill it for a few decades, then bring it back again with only a few references to old stories and lore, like they did in 2005.
Then they can easier get away with retconning all the stupid shit that's been inserted over the past decade
>>211376589>Is the franchise even salvageable or is the only solution a hard reboot? It's not salvageable, so this is the hard re-boot, but in cartoon form for preschoolers. Maybe in 30yrs from now they may consider a live action adaption of the cartoons.
>>211376642I can only think of Sontarans and the Master, maybe the Rani as well if she's open now. Daleks are definitely out of the question, and you could maybe do bumbling Cybermen if you just make them want world domination instead of converting people.
>>211376339>look how mature i am for not buying toys!!!!Ok bud.

Toddler TV's audience is controlled by their parents, this idea MIGHT have worked a long time ago when the fan base was not as toxic as it is now. Parent's that had fond memories of Doctor Who would have heard that theme music and put their kids in front of the TV to learn about celery and cricket bats. But today, there is so much anger and disappointment about the state of this show that no parent is going to associate a dumbed down cartoon version with a good experience for their child.
Okay so...I was convinced to watch
Series 1 is kino, excellent performance by Christopher, great stories.
Series 2 - The Satan and Cybermen stuff was good and the finale interesting
Series 3 - Family of blood arc was great, Utopia great, but I found the last two episodes terrible. Like John Simms Master though.
Series 4 - Really great, enjoyed almost every episode.
The Specials Water of Wars was fantastic, end of time was grea too
Series 5, Angel two parter was great, really great series
Series 6, strong opening rest of the season was mediocre I found. But still enjoyable enough
Series 7 - I didn't really like any episodes in this series at all, I liked Clara, found the ponds leaving adrupt, very messy.
Day of the Doctor- Brilliant, enjoyed John Hurt and the dynamics and zygons
Matt's finale episode was a terrible rushed mess though felt it should have been at least 3 episodes maybe.
Series 8 - Really enjoyed the Tone change her, few duds in it, but really enjoyed it and the arc for the Doctor. Missy was great.
Series 9 - Love most of the two parters here, heaven sent, actually enjoyed hell bent. I can understand it being off putting but its more a characterization focus and a good commentary on how relationships can become obessive and toxic.
Series 10, really enjoyed this Nardole is Kino, liked bill well enough, enjoyed all the episodes except the terrible Scottish set one, wtf was that, kino ending for Capaldi desu.
Series 11 - Didn't like a single ep here.
Series 12 - Liked the Tesla episode and the Haunting one. Timeless child stuff and then gallifrey destroyed again what? not great, the Master over acts i feel.
Flux - Actually really enjoyed this the Sontarans were fun, the weeping angels well used, the serialized nature was fun and an interesting mix of villains, I liked Swarm and Azure.
About to now start the three specials with 14. Will report back.

There's a depressingly high possibility that the preschool spin off will be more enjoyable than the main show (if it ever comes back). I for one look forward to the live threads where we debate each episode's canonicity.
>>211377072The Sound of Drums is kino.
cbeebies show will be closer to classic who. i just hope they don't get the same animators that did the reconstructions of lost episodes.
>>211377072Another confirmation that RTD > SM > CC.
>>211377090Are we going to have to debate about how canon the Cbeebies Doctor is? It's probably going to be an incarnation made for the show.
>>211377146Gridlock > Heaven Sent
>>211377135that would be dumb. i'm sure most of the former cast would love to come back and do it. you can do stories with any living doctor
oh HAHA greenis i just got it !
>>211376866It's a show about kids going on an adventure (with blood and gore and monsters). It's basically exactly what kids want to be watching. Just because the censors tell you it's an 18+ show, doesn't really mean it's aimed at the 18+ audience in an exclusionary sense.
Better Call Saul is an adult show. Kids don't give a fuck about some guy doing legal crimes, and having a falling out with his brother.
>>211377182It stopped being about kids going on an adventure after like Season 1 and then it turned into high school drama and the like.
They should kill off the Doctor which makes the Universe implode or something and they can restart everything
>>211377197Well I'm telling you, you're wrong about everything, and you're wrong about life.
Go forth and sin no more.
>>211376642>I wonder what villains and foes they have deemed suitable for under 6yr olds?Have a "no kill/harm" rule and you can use almost anything. For example:
>Slitheen puts a baseball catchers glove on that fits their massive claws to cheat at baseball, ooh how unfair and sneaky of them! Also they fart, extra fun for the kids.>Daleks uses their elevate/hover ability to win the long jump competition, ooh how sneaky of them.>Those weeping angels are playing What's the time Mr Wolf and are basically unbeatable, ooh how sneaky of them.Don't mention that all those villains would probably kill everyone in the stadium before they bothered cheating at sport and you've just got a fun show for little kids seeing how the Doctor, Ace and Frobisher make sure cheats never prosper.
>>211376166The prime audience for Doctor Who has always been 9-16 in my eyes. Yes everyone can watch the show but if you're not capturing that group there's basically no point. I teach that age group and TV wise they're all into darker edgier stuff like Stranger Things and Wednesday and Squid Game. The day-glo camp style that RTD is going for is only appealing to the most of autistic of queers over the age of 30.
>>211377090>Watch a few episodes of CBeebies Who >They are lighthearted fun, made for children >Notice a repeating phrase in a few episodes >Watch episode 26 of Season 1>The repeating phrases were all leading to a returning Classic Who monster that's defeated in two minutes Russel got me again bros
>>211377207I didn't watch those ones. S1 was a complete story.
>>211377166The problem is that you'd need a consistent Doctor. Little kids might not really understand regeneration, you'd need someone willing to commit to a cbeebies show. I feel like the only past Doctors who would be a good fit for the show and would maybe be willing to do it would be Tennant or Whittaker.
>>211377135>It's probably going to be an incarnation made for the show.It will be Billie Piper.
>Hullo there - today we're going to learn how to swim, with the help of my good friends the sea devils!
I said for ages that Stranger things style would be great for Doctor Who.
I can totally imagine the Doctor in that series. And Imagine kaled mutant off shoots looking like the creatures of the upside down. That's the shit that will sell. You can still have the Doctor be humourous and whacky as a character.
But RTD is literally stuck mentally in 2005-2008.
Glad Amazon (the likely company) are pushing this one time highers ups know better that a showrunner.
>>211377249>The Master summons the exiled Rassilon and high council and the Doctor has to beat them in a game of football with his friendsKino.
>>211377263>you'd need someone willing to commit to a cbeebies showIf it's animated, just use one of the old ones. It's just voice acting. They can record from Skype like they do in Big Finish.

cbeebies show can do a crossover with Mr Bean
>>211377329>Watch the kids show turn out be absolute kino with a lot of dark elements thrown in and actual cool new monsters and designsIt's a preschool show, autist.

Thursday Doctor: Chinese Woman who explores 20 minutes into the future

>>211377474Not to that level but kids absolutely LOVE horror. Whenever they write stories it's nearly always a horror story. Making Doctor Who "that scary show" again would go a long way to improving it's popularity. At the moment it's "that cringe show my autistic gay female uncle watches"
From dw discord
J. Michael Straczynski is the one trying to convince RTD that a darker tone and more teenage tone is needed. In Michael's vision he wants to cast Shaun Evans as the Doctor and have him be a tonal blend of 11 and 12. He also wants to set the new series in a small 80's movie style American town as the ''base'' between adventures. But while of course still keeping the Doctor British and all that. The companions would be three teenagers and an alien teenager too. Very coming of age stuff and classic 80s movies fright night, american werewolf etc. I've heard Michael wants the Time Lords old enemies the Great Vampires to be the main antagonists with lesser vampires infesting the town and other planets and he wants Ben kingsley as Rassilon trying to redeem himself for his past sins in this town too as Rassilon was there when the Vampires first invaded so he's sort of peter vincent in fright night ironically actually played by David Tennant is a remake.
That's the pitch.
>>211377683A particular clique basically stupided themselves into thinking Doctor Who is all about love and acceptance and being gay and going to therapy, and now they can't comprehend why kids aren't into it.

Had to actually Google who this Michael guy was and it turns out he made some dull as ditchwater American soap opera in space. Yeah, don't think turning Doctor Who into a boring American style Space opera would ever work, straight into the bin it goes. If they really wanted a different show runner then they could probably get Cartmel and Aaronvich to do it, at least they wouldn't try to change the show into some carbon copy of Star Trek.

I don't know where all this guff about getting rid of her in a comic relief special comes from, but that's never going to happen. For one the BBC have faith that even if a doctor doesn't work at first then that can be turned around (look at the backlash to the 13th Doctor when she started, compared to the acclaim of the Flux series). For two, the comic relief and children in need episodes are not considered canon to the show.
