the founder was a retarded virtue signalling boomer
>Lochridge raised concerns about the carbon fiber hull and the lack of non-destructive testing. He was then summoned to a meeting the following day with Stockton, finance and administration director Bonnie Carl, quality assurance director Scott Griffith, and Nissen
>Lochridge was fired, and bizarrely, Rush tried to replace him with Carl, positioning her as the companyโ€™s first female pilot, even though Carl herself points out she was an accountant.

what was the idea with using the vidya controller? is it just to make it look fun or was there a practical application? Is it just a boomer being so out of touch that he thinks it makes him look like a rock star to zoomers

I imagine it was to make it where the pilot could control the sub from anywhere allowing for more flexibility for guests, but there are wired industrial controllers that would have worked. It looks like how they rigged the submarine up was by buying some bow thrusters and mounting them on the hull and the controller was just mapped to operate those thrusters in any particular direction.

yeah they were just maxing out the ad revenue.

because there were two billionaires in the sub, the search wasn't going to be called off just because the chance of anyone surviving was zero. so may as well lie to maintain the suspense.

it was just this. but if the sub had been safe and reproducable at scale the media would have 100% collaborated in telling everyone how cool just like for every techbro sperg, and simply gaslit the public into believing it.

I'm so comfortable right now.
Laying on my bed before going to sleep, lurking on my phone, in an air conditioned house with all modern commodities.
Imagine being inside that submarine. It's already descending. A shitty capsule and the cold deep. Celine Dione playing, and the hull creaking. There's nowhere to run. You are trapped.
But we aren't there. We are in our homes. Where we can't be crushed by the pressure of the deep sea.
Feels good man.

i would guess it was just to cut costs
if you want controls like that made from professionals you will easily pay several 10 thousands for that alone, even more if you want that shit to be insured
instead they went for the 40 bucks console controller
like alot about this story its a very amateurish approach and (i assume) if it wasnt used only in the middle of the ocean outside of anyones restrictions highly illegal

>40 bucks console controller
This one boggles my mind the most. Even the most modern shit barely functions if you hide your console inside alocker or there is a coffee table between you and it on 8 feet distance.
If someone told me there is unironic ancient Nintendo controller sending signal through metal wall, I would nope the fuck out of there as fast as I could.
But maybe there was just typical western assumption of competence - surely it isn't actual Shitendo controller, surely specialists worked on it and remodelled insides to specs.
