There's a difference in how shows are commissioned in Britain, where singular or two writers will submit an entire series script to producers; compared to America where the concept or idea is created by someone and then they hire writers or writers rooms to fill 24 episodes.

Also, we don't have television seasons. Television shows are just pushed out regularly throughout the year.

Thought it was amazing in the 90s.
Rewatched it recently....It was shit. Constantly re-using the same handful of gags, and the constant cheap shots at catholicism were lazy and unfunny.

Seriously the only reason people give a shit about Father Ted was that the main actor was a very nice, well loved by his peers actor who got his big break with the show and died out of the blue, which resulted in the show being retroactively declared the greatest show of all time.

You've got to have memorable characters and all 3 are even if they're somewhat one note. And them being priests made it easy to introduce wacky side characters who are immediately linked to the protagonists.

For me it was when they played the priest cup final and father jack was drunk asleep so he was being remote controlled by father ted. Before he scored ted drove him into a wall.
